  1. When I did this, I went in trough the front by removing the heater/vent panel. But, in my case, I had an intire "laundry list" of items to care for while the dash was apart. I changed the clock, oil pressure/water temp gauge, light bulbs for the amp gauge and cig lighter, Installed the stereo and changed out the heater panel for a better one. Only after the fact, while looking over my trashed glove box, did I relize I could get at the clock via that route.
  2. This is one of those subject where the search fuction is just too usefull! Before you start, check out Kyle's write up on the deal. It really helped me through the job. It's really not a hard task, studing and preparing first will keep it that way! Front Suspension Rebuild Howto
  3. Ok, That's a relay, added by the Previous owner to help the headlight curcit. Your starter soliniod has three posts on it. 2 large posts and 1 spade post. The top large post will have the + battery lead connected to it and (At least) on other wire. That wire is the power supply to the fuse box. a problem there will show as no power to anything. The bottom large post will have nothing connected to it. Well, not really nothing, It will have a lead from the soliniod to the starter motor itself. The spade connection is the signal from the key. Turn the key and 12 volts goes to this spade, energizing the soliniod which does 2 operations. It pushes out the drive gear to engage the flywheel and it closes the BIG 12 volt circuit to the starter motor. If there's a bad connection on the spade connector, your starter will do nothing. Just like you described.
  4. Obviously, It doesn't matter which continent your on. I spied a silver 350Z in Glendale, about 1/2 block ahead of me. I sped up, cut a few lanes and pulled up next to him. No recognition from the 350Z driver, nada, zip. Ok, screw it. The road opened up ahead of me. I drop her into second and pull away WOT.
  5. I want a 510 and a 1200 to go together with my roadster and 240Z. The complete early 70's Nissan Motorsports Package!
  6. To tell the truth I've been tempted. Ever since Alfadog annouced his purchase. I always liked the U.S. market 610 coupe, Well, here's it's big brother. And of course without the ugly, giant US market bumpers. I'm a sucker for an "exotic" Datsun. I wanted to buy that 67 CSP-311 Silvia that was for sale in the Bay Area last year, but knew I'd never fit in the dam thing.
  7. Thanks Alan, Do you think I might be able to get an Oscillator unit from one of the specialty shops in Japan? Spirt Garage maybe?
  8. I don't know.... if you find a 73 610 for a donor, you could bring it up to almost there.
  9. Mine was installed in a 72 HLS30 U.S. Market. I don't know how it got there. I heard that the car was a special order by the Mayor of Hunington Beach (That Explains the Rust!), in 71. It is a clock and a stop watch with adjustable bezel. pressing the left knob resets, zeros, the sweep hand. turning the left adjusts the bezel. Pressing the right starts/stops the sweep hand. pulling it out adjusts the clock. Anyway, without it's power box, it's just a decoration on my coffee table.
  10. Absolutly Alan! Thank you again for your valued input. I believe this was the tag found under the dash trapped by the pedal box. It looks like I may have lost the other sheet found tucked into the body. I could see no evidence of any handwritting in the fields as well. If it faded, it left no impression on the paper.
  11. Mike, It was HLS30 48255. I bought it 2/26/01 as my first Z. I bought it without studing what to look for and it turned out to be alright looking but a rust basket case. Just a year later, I was searching for a better car. Now, all the best parts of that car live on in my present 72. The rest is stored under the house. The body is tuna cans by now. RIP HLS30 48255 She looked good polished up but rotten to the core Engine Compartment
  12. Ben, I have the clock, but not the control box. I'm keeping mine (sorry). I'd love to find the control box (whatever it does) as I've been waiting to install mine for the past 4 years! rally clock
  13. Burt, The SUs are to set to idle completely off the center adjustment on the manifold. Contrary to popular belief, that adjustment is only used to test the carb balance off idle. Not too clear, I know. Someone will be better a "splaining" it.
  14. I've uploaded photos of one of the assembly tags I found while parting out an early 72 (manufactured 9/71). I can't remember if I found this sandwiched between the pedal box and body or tucked inside the right fender well. This was a U.S. Market HLS30. Can anyone translate? Assembly tag reverse side
  15. This tag was found in a 72 U.S. Market car duing part out. Either under the pedal box or the left quarter panel
  16. This tag was found in a 72 U.S. Market car duing part out. Either under the pedal box or the left quarter panel
  17. You are wise beyond your years, sir. I don't know if you can make a "Sports car" with the couple of thousand (if not more) safety and environ requirements tacked on. There are some that are close. That stripped down, sports package Corvette maybe? (Z06?)
  18. Malder, Are you happy with the existing paint? Rust? It's a major commitment doing the "real deal". Look at what your starting with and decide if you'll be happy with the rolling refresh job. Come over and take a look at mine. It hasn't stoped rolling and gets better every day - BUT - I bought the car specificly for this purpose. Sure, it would be a show stooper with the total restore. But, I got just what I wanted., a car I could drive and get all the "Hey! That's a nice Z!" rewards. If I started with a car that really needed paint, I'd would have needed to go the "Whole Enchalada". I'll never win any shows as it's still a "10 footer" (looks great at 10 feet). No matter which way you choose, it still cost lots. I know I spent a few "pretty pennies" . This is evident to anyone that reads my journal:classic:
  19. Hey! I hope you guys come see us Downtown Solvang for our Roadster Show Saturday, The same weekend as the Motorsports Auto Show (April 27th?) . I intend to drive up to Solvang (Motel 6 in Beulton) on Friday, Show on Saterday, Drive home, catch a little sleep, Drive to Orange for the Motorsports show on Sunday. Wow! What a weekend.
  20. What ever happened to the Kiwi or Aussie Band, "The Cedrics"? Are they "The Datsuns" now? Our modern rock radio staion, KROQ, has a segment for the afternoon drive, called "Catch of the Day", where they play an obscure track. About a month ago, "The Datsuns" were featured. The DJ panned them calling them "Throwback" and he was going to Throw their album back into the dust bin.
  21. I'll comment on this, because I just went on a quest for chrome carriage bolts. I wanted 1/4 and 5/16 chrome carriage bolts to replace the bolts that hold the end pieces of the rear bumper on and four 5/16 bolts to fill the holes from the overriders. You'd think that in a city like Los Angeles, this would not be hard to find. I went from Hardware store to another, Auto part stores, hot rod shops, even a Harley shop - no avail. I finally found them in the largest independent hardware store in town. For those in my area, It was Virgil's Hardware in Glendale.
  22. It's obvious that My alt in my 72 is on it's way out. Would I benefit from a slighty higher output alt? VickyBrit offers 2 choices. but I'd like it to look close to original. I could just get one of my old units rebuilt. If you think that paragraph is confusing, you should see the mess in my head!
  23. An Infinity is as much a Nissan as a Datsun is. A brand name of a manufacturer. A rose by any other name? In the Datsun era, The Nissan badge was reserved for the upper market cars. Then, suddenly, they were all Nissans. Obviously, GM doesn't want to market Cadillacs as Chevrolets. Nissan needed a new upscale brand name as well. The 350Z and the G35 are just variants of the same car, yes? I don't know. How deep does it go? When does the body shell become a G35 or a 350Z. Even further back, in the basic shell component pressings? At the last Turfside show in Escondido, The 350Z and G35 were side by side. My car was about 20 feet from them. I heard many a die hard Z FANATIC walk pass and say "I'd chose the G35". I think if the Central Coast Club excludes a G35, the world would not end. And, vise versa.
  24. The U-20 was only used in the Sports 2000. A rare beast indeed. They only made 14,000 SRL (2000) roadsters. Anyone wonder why my timing components cost me $1,400? Sill, it a beautifull engine that I will continue to pay the cost to hear it sing.
