Is my door bent? Do I need new hinges? Door alignment problems within...
I will do my best to try and see if the door is original. I believe the paint on the door has all of the same layers on it, which is why I'm thinking it is; however I will double check and compare it with other known original parts of the car. So, Arne, it sounds like I may have a later door (which should be right for a '73, right?) and early hinges? So maybe I just need to find another set of hinges? If that ends up being the case, that would be great! I definitely don't think finding the correct year door would be easy... I really don't want to go through all of the trouble of doing all of this serious body reconstruction and end up with mismatched panels in the end. Maybe there's a way I can put up a WTB ad for a set of hinges or something that someone may have on a parts car. It sucks cause as random as it is to find one of these cars in a junkyard, there was a complete one a few months ago locally, a '73 too!

Is my door bent? Do I need new hinges? Door alignment problems within...
Arne, can you elaborate a little bit on what you're talking about? The car is a '73 and the doors are all original as far as I know. I guess I brought up the question if the door was tweaked originally, but honestly I don't see anything wrong with it nor does the body have any evidence of damage that would suggest it has been in a wreck. I'm not sure who I could talk to anyways that would really know enough as to how to check the door for straightness.

Is my door bent? Do I need new hinges? Door alignment problems within...
Hello all, Looking for some help on my door alignment. It was aligned goofy when I got the car but I figured I would get it fixed when I replaced the rocker panel. Now that I'm trying to align the new rocker panel with the door, it just isn't cooperating. <a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/jepherz/Datsun?feat=embedwebsite#5625581697719456946"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ObTlnTAjVkc/ThIUv5uB1LI/AAAAAAAAA70/fgKsSkM7qPc/s144/DSC00924.jpg" height="108" width="144" /></a> <a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/XPAtqkPJsU8JbO4DD94sWA?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-tyQfe48APOY/ThIU5pjPvbI/AAAAAAAAA78/9c8EqwJlA2Y/s144/DSC00925.jpg" height="144" width="108" /></a> <a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/883fiE17ZsgStM63utwOGg?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-0l6DugwAMD8/ThIVEC6rDBI/AAAAAAAAA8E/MgkhW5XBlDU/s144/DSC00926.jpg" height="108" width="144" /></a> <a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/pJzxcPAd8VjX4FJkdZS2cA?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-89-e458Ob7c/ThIVphAzI0I/AAAAAAAAA8c/9ZUDNxnXw2E/s144/DSC00927.jpg" height="108" width="144" /></a> I tried to capture the problem in the photos but figure I need to explain it as well. When the door is aligned horizontally, the rear bottom portion is aligned with the dog leg. However, as you move up the body line towards the top rear of the door, the door is pushed in. Then, on the front of the door, the bottom of the door sticks out so far that the gap between the door and new rocker panel is huge. Does this mean my hinges or door are tweaked or is there a way to fix this? Thanks for your help!

Yes, definitely! Thanks Arne!

Nope, why do you say that? I got it as a somewhat complete car, and fenders/interior/glass has been removed for restoration. :-)

Old member, new name, finally a Z owner
Hello! I created a new name but originally joined this site back in 2004 under the name 'jepherz'. I inquired about resetting the password on that account bt never heard back from where ever I sent the email. Oh well! Anyways, I was originally looking for a Z car back in 2004 but got into AWD galant VR4s instead. After years of playing that game and racing with my project cars, I finally got the itch again to own a Z car. I ended up finding a '73 240 locally on Ebay. Turns out the car was sort of a basket case, but I was looking for a project anyways. The car when I got it about a month ago: How it sat as of a few weeks ago: I now have removed all of the glass and am fixing up the electrical catastrophe that one of the prior owners caused. I hope that I can learn a lot from everyone here and return the favor to others eventually! -Jeff

Painting Underbody?
I would think you woudl want to seal it up well with chassis paint or something. Some people will recommend POR15, although I have always been under the impression you need to put that on rust as it doesn't adhere to clean metal, which is why they call it POR (Paint Over Rust) Hopefully this either helps, or stirs up some better recommendations on this topic

Painting Stainless Steel
I've never heard anything about stainless not gripping primer at all. I think as long as its clean, just sand what you can and paint it. Take a look at all of the people who have painted DeLoreans....

Car Is Finally Painted!!
Dreco, look at my desktop background and you will be proud :classic: As for the blowing fuse, I'm also guessing it's a wire pinched somewhere. Try using a multimeter and checking that line somewhere in the cabin for continuity with the chassis of the car. You can trace along the wire and find out where the short is.
