My KGC10-R Engine.
I recently had the opportunity to run the C10 on Stewart Wilkins MotorSport chassis dyno. Racing 240Z's and Nissan L6's all over the place! Other than the obvious mods to the engine; triple 44 Mikunis Fujitsubo extractors and twin system lightened flywheel and/ or internals mild cam factory electronic ignition "Winged" sump (oilpan)* ..I don't know about inside as yet. Any and all mods were done in Japan by previous and unknown owners. It was sold at auction in Japan as having a 3.1 Litre (I.E.stroker) motor, I was told was done by Kakimoto. To drive on the highway, this motor seems torquey and willing, doesn't get hot and has never given any trouble starting etc. On the track, it was happy enough for a few laps but soon started breaking down if pushed. The point of breaking down getting lower and lower with more laps....nothing beyond an indicated 4000rpm. Didn't overheat, no fluid loss. Ok, back out on the highway and now it's happy to an indicated (and self imposed rev limit) 6000rpm,(3rd gear) revving nice and clean and pulling like a train! As it is not a race car, and was happy enough on the road, I didn't get overly concerned, just put it down to fuel pump or something upsetting the ignition. So anyway the guys run it up on the dyno a few times, 6000rpm limit. Sounds OK at first, but as the revs climb I detect "fluttering" on and off...revs still going up, now definitely running on 5, maybe even 4!! Sound like it's revving it's tits off and getting nowhere. Have a look at the printouts, ever seen anything as crook as this:disappoin I had a chat to the guys running the dyno, they certainly know their stuff, and seemed sure a lot more could be coaxed out of it when the obvious problem (cause yet unknown) is addressed, but with everything considered felt it wasn't major. Noted was the air/fuel figures were running at turbo type ratio (thick and rich!) I am going back to them and booking it in for a diagnostic and fix soon. For all you guys that have played with these engines and had to interpret readouts, what's your take on what you see? Any experiences in using a dyno as a diagnostic tool? I realise guesstimates are the best you can hope for when considering a picture, but I would be interested on any and all takes on what you see. All constructive suggestions, thoughts and comments accepted gratefully. Anything else....well I got a pretty good sense of humour, Geez ya gotta have, eh!?:classic: Jim.

Kakimoto N42!?
Hi ya Ron, here is their website Go to Engine parts and you will see the "L Gata" info. How's ~$600 for ya cam cover grab you? I find it interesting that they only seem to play with the turbo RB engines,..and the Nissan L6! I do have some info in Japanese if you're interested? A cattledog and a photocopied magazine article about their 330ps 3.1 litre. I have made attempts to get it translated.... but nothing so far:( When you can, could you kindly post some pics of the relevant mods to the head? The engine in my C10 is supposedly a Kakimoto built unit, but to what extent I have no idea. Alan suggested some time back that being a street engine it is most likely only headwork and that seems to fit. I recently had it on a dyno.....with a resultant printout that was less than impressive. Funny thing is the car drives as well as it ever did, so I'm approaching the whole deal as a starting point for much improvement. I'll carry this on in it's own thread Ron, and would be grateful for any input from your experience re reading dynocharts and modded L series in general. Cheers, Jim.

only 1 set of 240Z LED Tail lights for sale!!
The Putfile video shows 'em off well. Labour intensive upgrade as far as building the lights go I'd imagine. Sooo much faster and brighter than your standard incandecant globes. I've built these as an extra (centre) brake light in years gone by, but seeing that, I might have a go at doing the same for the Skyline, particularly the indicators, as the C10 has no amber flash, simply flashes the brakes on one side or t'other!...nearly come to grief because of it too. Nice job! Jim.

Top 10 Japanese race cars of all time As per Classic Motorsport
Hey Alfa, Marlboro sponsored the Holden Dealer Team Toranas of the seventies. Winfield is the Sponsor you are thinking of. I couldn't believe how hard it was to round up some pics for you. Finally found them in a couple of 1992 magazines. Plenty around of the BIANTE model cars, but thanks to govt. regs you won't see any mention of Winfield, them being makers of cancer sticks 'n all:rolleyes: I've chucked one in of the Marlboro A9X for good measure! Jim.

Valve cover differences
I'm sure I saw a cam cover with the script "HYPER 6" in raised letters from the rear to the front on an old Nissan 6 motor (it was old then) I was offered with a Prince...~ 20 (too many) years ago. At that time I thought it was the second one I had seen. Am I kidding myself? or has anybody else in their travels seen one of these? ...or any clues?? Jim.

Early 5-Speed
Hi Alan, Carl, infact everyone posting.....I just want to jump in and say thanks! for this thread. The info, and the way in which it is being imparted is the very essence of why this is such a great forum and site. Thanks guys Jim. Hey while I'm at it, I've been told I have a ZX turbo gearbox (manual 5speed) Any way to confirm this? That's all I've been told about the box, no model or year info, but of course I can check the 'box itself for clues.

anyone got a parts car still?
Hmm, anything's possible Kent. It's the 240K that needs a caliper overhaul, but the KGC10 could use bigger front brakes. I'll have to check to see if the '71 calipers will go on the '75....ahh I'll talk to you about it sometime. As usual it's all about the dollars:rolleyes: Jim.

G'day Rick! This is the first Prince GT R-380. Built by Prince Motor Company before the merger with NISSAN. Hence the logo on the side of the car, a better version is below. It's full history is a great read, but a bit long winded for here.A weight of 660 kg, It was powered by a 1996cm3 200ps (147kW) @ 8000rpm twin cam six. Three dcoe Webers. Known as the GR8. This was the foundation for the S20 found in the 1968-73 Nissan Skyline GT-R and the 1969-74(?) Fairlady Z 432 & 432-R. This particular version never competed against other vehicles, due to no Japanese GP in 1965, but did set some speed and endurance records in 1965. The 1966 GP was another story!! ..as well as a slightly different version of the R380. The two pics are from later years, the engine shot shows NISSAN parts now, and the other is the 1966 JP GP grid (for sports cars). As you can guess the history of this car is a pet project of mine, so if anyone has info or corrections to offer I'd be pleased to hear it.:classic: Jim.

Original Key Blanks
Hi Carl, I think the Griffon first appeared on NISSAN-PRINCE literature for a short while after the 1966 merger. The logo below is in the original Japanese, with another in English as interpreted by the Prince Owners Register (Australia) I have seen it on the packaging of Prince parts (part No. always ending with a "P") sent from Japan, don't recall ever seeing it on a part before though! Jim.

...Dietrich?
Eric,... even after reading the scenario that prompted design, I found it a little out of focus, obscure.... whatever!....and that really appeals to me, it creeps up on you :paranoid: :cheeky: Absolutely effing brilliant!! We obviously share the same off centre obscure sense of humour. Sadly, I think you would spend a lot of time explaining to curious observers just what it was all about ...but the payoff would be the odd stranger who would point and laugh, nodding there head and calling out "Deitrich..Deitrich, where aaarre youuu?" Jim.

HELP! need c110 pics
Sorry Mikey,...but it is about the mystery KGC110 ('s?) The big pic that also appears in my gallery is from the 1983 printing of "The SKYLINE: 25 years a symbol of quality (since 1957)" I bought it in 1984. It seems to have been the reference picture for the kits (see pics below). I hadn't noticed the green car until I bought the 1/43 Kyosho version a year or two ago...and then I thought it was just a curious change by Kyosho. Now I see they also do a blue one that has been a lot harder to buy. A preferred version in Japan? It'd be good to know the whole story on these cars. Now Mikey, what colour will yours be? Jim.

240K Still alive after 15 months
I been wondering what happened to you Rob. Good to hear you're still working on the 240K. I guess it's better to be a happy panel beater:) than an unhappy:disappoin IT type ...person:paranoid: .......but don't completely foresake your IT skills, even if you just keep up to date on a hobbylike level....at least at that level you can always walk away from it when you feel the irits coming on, one thing you can't do if it's your bread and butter, THEN it costs you money! Got any pics of the car to share? Cheers, Jim.
