The R380 outside Japan
Hey thanks Chris, I was looking at how we ended up with talk of how a hotrodded chevy small block out of Southern California fits in with the Z car story....hey! there it is!! wasn't Datsun California part of the skunkworks that dragged the 240Z into the world :stupid: don't pay too much attention to me at the moment....trying to get over nightshift  Jiiimm...zzzz

Pad Size on C110
Can't help you with the K - Z compatability Tom, but as far as good pads go, I see a lot of people at Targas and the like running Bendix Ultimates. I have them on the C10. Bit more choice for you, but I don't know how they compare. Jim.

NO Brakes
I dunno Rick...the fact the pedal is able to be pushed to the floor when the booster is effectivly "in circuit", but the pedal won't go to the floor without this assistance suggests to me the problem is beyond the booster and in the hydraulics path. Remember everything is set up to work properly with the booster "boosting " your effort at the pedal. I suspect air in the hydraulic path somewhere, most likely something amiss at the master cylinder. Any chance of having the system pressure bled? Generally a brake shop job Kent Hughes of 240K forums fame is having the very same problem. Good luck with it. Jim.

The R380 outside Japan
While not exactly Z history, this relates to the Prince, then Nissan R380, and by association, the PS30 or Fairlady Z 432. The test bed for what would develop into the S20 engine. Original version was named the GR8. Original Prince R380 started as a Brabham BT8 chassis No.SC 9 1964. Records from 1993,(See here)indicate it is still retained by the original purchaser (Now Nissan?) I believe the very successful trip to Surfers Paradise in 1969 by Nissan/Datsun with the R380 MkIII was the only foray outside japan for any of the R380 series. The last four paragraphs of the last page sum it up. (Well DUuhh! Jim :stupid: ) Some early Datsun racing Just a bit of historic trivia on the Nissan R381 open cockpit version that run and won the 1968 Japan GP. The developing V12 GRX engine was not going to be ready by race day, so the ever practical development team ordered a few Dean "MOON" as in SoCal "MOON equipped" built Chevy small blocks, prepped 'em... and stuck 'em in!...and won. I think that's cool!! The older R380 Mk III came in 3,4,5,.. with a 910 Porche in 2nd. Well we've wandered well and truly off the Z path, but I hope you still find this entertaining ?! Jim.

OT- Roadster Steering Wheel
That looks great Victor! It is period correct for the roadster that's for sure. If you compare it to the original steering wheel for the '67 and 68 Corvette they're quite similar. In Australia the 1968 to 1971 Monaro, and the 1970 Torana GTR and XU-1 had one much the same. I scanned this from an 8/70 Monaro brochure.

"Doing it Right"
This was the preferred dent and hole filling method untill the advent of nikky/bog/ bondo/plastic filler which was much safer and user friendly, and eventually cheaper, but as time has proven introduced its own problems to the art of body restoration. As BambiCarl has said, this lead wiping is a repair method kept alive mainly by the steel bodied hotrod builders and the vintage & classic vehicle restorers. During the '70's I remember seeing an early fifties Holden (Australian GM) after it had been media blasted. The roof had many examples of lead wiping dent repair. It was very obvious to the eye due to the colour difference in the metals, yet to run your hand over it I simply could not detect any contour variation in the turret panel. The guy doing the work pointed out that some of the lead wiping was actually applied at the factory during the body assembly to fill imperfections in panel joints. Bottom line is it's a good panel finishing method, but a technique best left to those who do it for a living. Jim.

Supercharger on a 280Z
Here's an interesting site for basic supercharging info Whrrrzzzzz!! The book was written during the sixties but the basics are as sound as ever. I heard a great story years ago of one of these vane type superchargers fitted to a Prince Gloria (S41 series).G7 2 litre 6 cylinder, hunting various street racers, and pulling away while hazing the rear tyres (POWR LOK diff). The age is evident on the cover, which depicts a 1967 HR series Holden speedo. (Same as 1966 HD) It's a good read! Cheers, Jim.

Replacing Freeze Plugs
These from the Nissan engine manual for L20A to the L28 series shows one big one in the rear of the block, that's it above the crank .......behind the flywheel (that isn't there), and another in the rear of the head, identified in the pic by the number 10. No sizes given but the parts book has the number 35 beside the description of the one for the rear of the head. Regards, Jim.

S3OZ dual exhaust& OS Giken TwinCam 24
Hey Derrick , If you could catch that car with your camera that'd be great to see. Give it a go! I know it's not quite an S30 but my KGC10 Skyline runs a twin Fujitsubo system from a beautiful set of stainless 6 into 2 extractors. Both the intermediate and main mufflers have "Fujitsubo Factory" embossed on them. Magic sound! Fuel in Sydney is around Aus$1.13 a litre for the good stuff(98ron)at the moment, Times 4.54 will give you Aus$5.13 an imperial gallon ..Or times 3.8 will give you Aus$4.29 a US gallon. ...Or as Aus$1 = US$0.77 , US$3.30 per US gallon Basic Unleaded (91ron) is around A$1.05 a litre. Jim.
