I haven't been able to confirm just what's inside yet! We never actually lined up and went at it, I tried to arrange it one time when I happened to be ahead of Nathan on the track by slowing right down on the approach to the BP sweeper onto the straight, so we were at BP onto the straight at the same time....big mistake! With his semi slicks he could charge through with a lot more speed than I so I was then chasing him down the straight now . but there wasn't a lot in it. Even so I got the impression his engine was pulling harder than mine up top. Not really, but I've never heard the term Old Skool used so often! I organized Historic rego in late Feb. If you are interested I can post more info about this. Basically I can drive to club meetings, events etc. servicing tests. Things like a fuel economy run over a few days must be noted by the club registrar prior to the trip. Tell me ALL Thomas.....Leave out nothing  ...Ooh! and pictures,..don't forget the pictures Thanks Tom, Jim.

Hi Ben, Besides these two there are another two being rebuilt in sheds, and one heavily modified in Western Australia, c-red imports , scroll down to the blue C10. One rumoured to be in Tasmania ? The Prince gathering was the first one of its kind in Australia. IIRC there were 24 princes(GTA's, GTB's) in attendance. At least half that again either sitting in sheds around the country waiting for a round tuit, or were not in attendance. A few aussie prince bits!

Out of interest Vincent, the wheels in the pic look very much like those on the rear of my '72 KGC10 Skyline,15"x ?,(225x50x15 tyres) little outside dish, lotsa inside dish. Could they be for a C10 series? Jim.

October last year. Enjoyed about 10-15 laps of Oran Park. A quick way to discover good road tyres are not good race tyres! A nice road suspension setup just doesn't cut it on the track. My first time actually playing on the track as well, so I was more than a bit cautious. I eventually wanted to go faster, but I could feel the car drifting and weaving and scrubbing the tyres more than I was happy with (I had to drive 1.5 hours on them to get home yet!) so I stuck to winding out 2nd and third on the straight and keeping out of the way. The guy who invited me along to the track day has a KGC10 very similar to mine, running semi comp. tyres.....a huge difference on the track. The two silver KGC10's caused quite a stir in the pits amongst all the more modern Skylines, 200SX's and the like. One night early last year just for the fun of it I did a google search on "kpgc10". Up popped the Nispares site with the C10 GTX for sale. i drooled for a while and eventually moved on, not really thinking i could afford it. A few days later I got an invite to the Prince Skyline owners 40th Anniversary national meeting at Beechworth. At breakfast on the first day I was seated next to of all people , the guy selling the C10! After breakfast he took me to where the car was parked.....I was pretty well hooked from that point on! Everything about it was, to me, perfect...the shape , colour, wheels, SOUND! Thankfully the car remained unsold until I was in a position to buy it a few months later. I flew down to Melbourne and drove the car home. Originally bought at auction in Japan by the guy i bought it from, Ron,mid 2003, I think. Appears to be a recent (Japanese) restoration. The motors internals remain a mystery. At Auction in Japan it was said to be a "Kakimoto built 3 litre". It is obviously well built in Japan, very quick revving and torquey, but very tractable on the road. Giken lightened flywheel and clutch(it rattles!), Mikunis, Fujitsubo exhaust system, Huge stainless 6 into 2 extractors, C210 gearbox. Both the head and block are "N42". Electronic dizzy. Horsepower?...I dunno..Sometime when I'm cashed up I wanna stick it on a dyno to see what it has, and maybe tune a bit more into it? Still needs some bits, apparently it didn't arrive in Australia with all the badges it had on it at the auction. The correct "GT" badges on the front guards, rear quarter panel badges also. I've changed the grill to a GTR type. It's a work in progress..... :classic: Jim.

So many things to talk about when it comes to pleasing engine sounds. I say that because some of my favourites are more than just the exhaust note. The previously mentioned blown Z car..with the blower whine gradually breaking out. The cars with 3x twin choke setups, have a distinctive sound. Lower engine speeds or low manifold vacuum situations create an induction roar that can swamp the exhaust note. This was particularly noticeable in the Prince GTBs' I owned, and it was all original in the airbox and filter, I think it actually acted as a resonant chamber at certain engine speeds. I also owned a 1970 LC XU-1 Torana, the one with the 186 cu.in and triple 150 cd strombergs. Again , the original setup made a unique sound. The single carb 161 gtr Torana had an exhaust peculiarality that at a certain engine speed sounded like someone blowing across the top of a milkbottle. I guess you had to be around in 1969-70 to appreciate that one :cheeky: How many of us have tuned a motor by ear? I'm guessing more than you realise. I know I have used the old "garden hose" trick to do a field setup of webers. Use the piece of hose like a stethoscope at the bell mouth and gradually dial the cylinder in by ear. An analogy just occurred to me! You the tuner are the equivalent of a modern ECU , where the sensors, along with your senses are the various underbonnet vacuum gauges, tacho, dwell meter timing light etc you've set up . You learn the correct parameters to work within from a book etc, and then apply them by watching , listening, a bit more adjusting, some more fiddling 'till it all looks, sounds and feels "right". This is particularly true of a modified motor. The books only are a guide here, the finer adjustments required as a result of your mods and you developing an understanding of what variations from stock these mods will demand.... Ok, this very much older basic stuff in the shed at home, it seems there has been some advances in tuning eqpt. using engine analysers, dynos etc that plug into your car , you hit the enter key, have a coffee and it's all done.....but for us old car junkies...well..I guess we have to plug into the drivers seat and take it all in from there! Ahh look, here comes me special bus,... I'll get out of yor way now..I'll see you in a new thread about favourite noises..? or car type sounds .....Hoo Roo

Orright Tom, ya got my interest now! I thought that the gear ratio was a function of a mathamatical difference of the engaged cluster.... you know , the difference between the number of teeth on the driving and the driven. I'm curious how a spacer can be utilised to alter that!!. I certainly wouldn't dismiss the idea out of hand though. Hollinger is THE motorsport gearbox guru to this planet. Please get ya mate to elaborate! Hearing ya 110 wind up like that, I just know it's turning heads over there. That is a classic straight six sound. Have you noticed how any engine with a multiple of three cylinders always has a pleasing note. Frinstance, the old BSA rocket three and the Triumph trident motorbikes...absolutely gorgeous noise! The Nissan S20 ..a spine tingling banshee like howl at 8~9k. Those big pommie twin cam sixes like the Aston Martin or any of the Jag sixes....and the V twelves for that matter. The XJ-S's at full noise down Conrod at Bathurst during the early to mid '80's. Admittedly that was through a race system. Then there's the ferrari v12's ....anything with a supercharger, some of those old straight eight race cars, sound just like an older top fueller...arrr ..Ooh! has anyone heard an Ariel SquareFour? Another Old British motorbike, sounds like a big cammed V8 at idle, and once on the throttle, like nothing else I've ever heard!! Hmm...come to think of it there is a lot of engines that create a beautiful noise. I should explain... I used to do motorsport crash rescue and fire team (C.R.A.F.T.) Best way ever to enjoy a multitude of these beauties at full song. Particularly the Historics. if you ever get a chance get along to an historic race meeting, it's aural heaven for motorheads like me :classic: I can't leave out the Prince Skyline GT! My favourite had a race cam and a 6 into 2 exhaust. 1 little hotdog muffler in each pipe and ending in a Lukey muffler for each pipe, so separate all the way from the headers back. A very distinctive sound to say the least!

240Z on ebay.au in Melbourne
As a bit of trivia... There is an ADR (Australian Design Rule) "14" relating to rearview mirrors. I believe these rules only came into effect in the early seventies, so that may explain why cars imported prior to (whatever the date of effect was!?) didn't have to comply. One of the sub clause' states the drivers side mirror must be able to be adjusted from the driving position. Those old enough might remember a lot of Japanese imports of the early '70s with a plastic plug of sorts on both front guards...right where a mirror would have been. Years ago I was told the mirrors could not be placed forward of the bottom edge of the windscreen as a pedestrian safety consideration...but there is NO ADR requirement to back this up. It may have been a seperate State rego requirement? .....Anyway this may help explain the "moving mirrors" Jim.

Very cool! ALL Skyline TV commercials
Thanks Eric. I had a bit of a sniff around the site....on one of the pages there is an original Mazda Cosmo ad with the car running around a banked track. The word "SAMPLE" running across it as it plays. As well as a few RX2 etc ads. I wonder if the others are ads for a DVD of the old ads? DVD features on that linked page if you run it through SYSTRAN, or maybe this lad just has the DVD of the ads??

Anyone identify these US military markings?
Thanks Ed and Enrique. Yep, Ed's explanation makes sense to me too. It took me a while to see the "H" as Captains bars too Enrique. I guess it's only trivia, but the fact someone has gone to the trouble of creating a "one of" to represent something unique or of significance to a select few has me intrigued, curious..... or just call me nosey  take tour pick!. No doubt someone will look at the script on the front and rear of the car and know exactly what it means. The US Army base in Japan is Camp Zama near Tokyo. I might try them just for a laugh...hey you never know! Thanks again guys, Jim.

Anyone identify these US military markings?
I bought this Japanese tinplate 1957 Prince Skyline, about a 1:16 scale. I'm curious about the side markings USA IE 0553, and the following markings across the trunk and hood or boot and bonnet..depending on where you are :cheeky: ;CRA-X TMP-18. It appears to have been repainted to represent a staff car? It was a light blue originally , but someone has gone to quite a lot of trouble to mask all the little bits and paint it what looks to be a genuine US Army Olive green. A 1959 Christmas gift for a Capt. Goodwin? Possibly from Okinawa but that is just a guess. Anyone have an idea of what the various sign writing means? All thoughts and ideas welcome! :classic: here's a few pics, the third one showing the real thing..for interest.

I removed the non original engine & gearbox from this and sold the car. A 1989 rebuild that sat in a shed under a car cover for 15 years!

1965 Prince Skyline GTB (S54Be-2)
A nut and bolt restoration. Looks like a car from a sales brochure. Prince Motor Company(PMC) effectively became the motorsport arm of Nissan. Building Skylines for Nissan since 1966. NISMO has its roots here.
