  1. Hi Steve, No mate, my wheels are a bit plain jane compared to yours. Unfortunately the centre caps for the 240k were only put on these wheels when they were sold through a NISSAN/DATSUN dealer in OZ..as far as I know. The centre is a stylised "N" or "S"...looks more like an N to me. I found a pic ...it shouldn't have the paint on it,...and a larger diameter centre cap

There is one of those in the riverstone wreckers yard, square headlight type Jim.
  3. Rob, $40 for 240K ignition switch with original key. The key for the boot and doors was not original, sorry. Passenger side lock was gone. Looks like somebody got at it overnight. Lachlan,at $20 I grabbed the bonnet trim. It is near perfect with a very slight depression near centre. Should be an easy fix with some massaging and buffing. The boot lid trim is perfect, looks the same as a coupe trim to me? the other smaller end bits of trim were all damaged. The grill as a unit seems perfect. The coupe in the yard was the third car up in a pile of four. Didn't have time to have a good look , it appears to be an Australian GL, stylised "D" on Steering wheel centre, but it has a JDM square headlight "2000 GTX" badged grill with what looks like a huge belt buckle in the centre.Someone has added the 240K GL badge above the 2000 GTX badge. Rear badge is 240K GL. My centre caps are for the nissan mag wheel, this car had the steel wheels with (different) centre caps. Any shifter I saw was nothing but cracked plastic. You have to see this yard to believe it. Most places you need to walk sideways to fit between the stacks of cars. I pity anyone who needs a part from a car at ground level. When I have some time to spare I will go back and investigate properly the 240ks of interest, 'till then.......... Regards, Jim.
  4. Ok Rob, I hope to be there this afternoon, email me a contact number. Jim.
  5. Yes, he has all original keys, and locks. Boot, fuel door, front doors, glovebox and ignition. I'd say they need a clean up but they appeared to be in good nick, just neglected and dirty. Please let me know ASAP! Jim.
  6. Lachlan can you post a quick pic of the centre cap of interest? I've noted your other requests and will do what I can as soon as possible. I would love to be able to grab anything worthwhile from the car, but at the moment it's down to my usual nemeses, time,(storage) space and money. Jim. P.S. you better tell me how the shifter deteriorates or what to look for!
  7. I happened across a 1977 240k auto sedan outside a wreckers in Riverstone NSW this afternoon. Although it is all original, gold with black interior, and all there, it is in very sad shape, a lotta rust. Been sitting outside with windows down for years by the look. I noticed it still had the original NISSAN ignition key, petrol cap key and boot key. It's also got aircond. Good dash, steering wheel, black front passenger seat, rear lower cushion seat. I was told it will go to scrap next Tuesday 14th Sept. as the yard is too full of old cars. There are two more 240k's in the yard, I didn't see them but was told one is a coupe the other a sedan, with various parts stored in them. There is also 1 Prince Gloria, only got to see this from about 50 metres away, but definitely a GLORIA ~1964. The Only phone for the Yard is 0402 100 156 If you want me to chase anything up on these please let me know AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!! ideally with a mobile contact so if they have what you want I can let you know the cost from the yard. Regards, Jim.

If by both you mean the KayGee one and myself I sure hope so! Is it Easter at Goulburn (Wakefield?) you're talking about Richard? Jim.

Thanks Gavin, I intend to have a reference established on a dyno in the future, I'm sure any seat of the pants figure I give you will be heavily weighted by my frame of mind at the moment The only thing I have to compare it with at the moment is my trusty stock 240K Auto, but it is very torquey in my experience. Hi Craig, I think the four door you saw was a red '66 Nissan Prince S54BE-III, i did see that but could find no C10, see if you can find the ad again? Not thinking I would ever own a real C10, I too have acquired lots of C10 kits and models. The Kyosho are brilliant as are Ebbro. My work brings me into regular contact with SBS TV people so I'm gonna do a bit of quizzing about that movie. Can you add anything like approx airing date time etc? You never know, I might be able to get us a copy!! While I think of it, will you guys be making your way to Goulburn next Easter? It'd be great to meet as many NISSAN/ ZEDHEADS as possible :classic: G'day Alan, Thanks for the info and insights again! I was exploring a Japanese bookshop in Sydney a few months back. In my endeavors to explain what I was looking for I mentioned "Hakosuka".....Well! the Japanese gents' face lit up with a huge grin, he quickly corrected my pronunciation to ..as you say..Hako-Ska and went on to explain the meaning. This chap was well aware of the cars and their popularity in Japan, and seemed fascinated that an Aussie could share the passion for an old Japanese car. We looked for quite a while but found nothing on the older cars...he even tried to find anything on the Prince Cars. he has since ordered and supplied a nice little prince and skyline reference book. Thanks again guys, Cheers, Jim.

G'day Alan, I've inadvertantly got this spread over two threads now! ahh well.. My point about the rear quarter panels was really just that I was very pleased it has them, but as I've responded in the engine thread, I cringe at any suggestion it is anything else but a nice look a like, nice as it would be to own the real thing, the car as it is, is a much better propostion for me, best of both worlds really, it looks the part without having the concerns of the care and feeding the genuine article in the engine bay. The stolen gt-r badges were placed in the glovebox at the auction...and never seen again  May I ask a favour? Could you explain your use of the word "romanisation"? I understand it as your interpretation but why "roman"? I'm curious as I've seen the word roman on some GTR related sites. Also, the character on the rear window in my attached pics with "machine friend" across it, any clues as to what it represents? Thanks Alan, I do appreciate your insights into the culture and scene these cars are coming from. Without having the ability to read/interpret Japanese text, there is only so much one can glean from pictures .It's one thing to use a translation tool....but interpretation is a new ballgame! Cheers, Jim.
  13. Please see private message Geoff. Cheers, Jim.
  14. Yes , some nice bits there. Sheesh! at about $900 Aussie for a tappet cover? Just a bit extravagant for me, they're nice, but not that nice. I actually asked a similar question of the guys who imported the car, after seeing a picture of the "Special K" cam cover. They believed the price was the reason it doesn't have one, but it's all speculation. Whatever it turns out to be, it's obviously well sorted. A few minor mods, a dyno tune and printout is on the cards. Thanks Alan for your usual clear and concise response. Even though the car is built to look like a GT-R, I cringe at the idea of hinting it is anything but that, a nice lookalike. Ripper, thanks for the good rap on the car. I'll check the sump, cheers mate! Ron never suggested that the car was ever a real KPGC10, but the build quality and sound certainly makes people wonder and may account for what you heard. I think Alan would agree the car is much more practical as it is than if it were a genuine KPGC10. As it is I can take it out and play with it at the various track and show days without the concern of hurting a AU$60,000~$80,000 car. If anything untoward should happen to the engine installed, it's a lot easier to fix an L series in Australia than an S20, plus I have a spare complete worked L26 if needed. Another thought, I'd be surprised if a real one could catch this little beauty Jim.

There was one in WA for sale $29000 heavily modified Two kgc10's under restoration in Vic. One rumoured to be in Tasmania. One similar to mine in Liverpool area, played at Wakefield some time back....gotta catch up with this guy. ........and mine! But I'll just betcha someone's hiding one elsewhere! Jim. W.A. importer
  16. Saw one on Yahoo Japan auctions a week or so ago...1.5 Million Yen, about what I paid for the whole car!! Jim.

Yeah I know, I made the name up, but its the closest thing to explaining it I can think of. It went to auction in Japan as a KGC10 /spec R? Wrong bits front guard gt badges, stolen intransit missing rear quarter badge/garnish? interestingly, the rear quarter panels are a different part no.'s for the real GT-R, and this car appears to have them! But the body is a kgc10...no P! A few pics from the trip from Victoria. Hey! It's Australia mate, ya gotta have a gumtree photo somewhere!
  18. "Don't knock the 432 stuff. At least one other person on this forum appreciates it and shares their enthusiasm for it...... " Alan I was serious, not knocking the 432. I meant if you didn't have much on the Kakimoto tell us a bit more about the Z432...anything new. I just love reading about them, and your posts make enjoyable reading! Any info about Kakimoto and L28's would be greatly appreciated, and what you say about the street setup makes sense to me. It was sold at auction in Japan as a kakimoto recently built 3 litre. Thanks all for the kind replies. Photos videos audio.. I want to get 'em all on here somehow. As soon as possible, I need to 1; get it all recorded 2; learn how to get it posted on the site. Alpha, it will be on club rego only but I will certainly give you fair warning whenever its headed for a show or trackday! I'll post a few pics shortly.. Still floating... Jim.
  19. Hi Alan, I've just bought myself a fathers day present. A very nice '72 2door KGC10, built as a KPGC10 replica, until you lift the bonnet. The motor is an L28. I'm told it was assembled by Kakimoto race engines. Outwardly it runs triple 44 mikunis, tuned length stainless extractors into a twin system (Oooohh the sound ...it's AWESOME!!). there is obviously a nice lumpy cam in it, it is very quick to rev and return to idle, once again obviously lightened and balanced internals. On the open road it goes like a scalded cat! NO hesitation and will happily spin past 6 grand in 4th...that was enough for me for now, my eyes were scanning tacho, speedo and up and down both sides of the Hume highway for diligent highway patrols (these were handcuff speeds by now!) all in a matter of ten seconds or so.After that I grabbed 5th and coasted back to a legal 110Km/h. Sorry, I was just re living the moment :classic: . What I would like to know is how to confirm whether or not it is in fact a Kakimoto engine without opening it up. I eventually found their website and gather they can build a very tough L 28! It would be nice to be able to confirm what I have is one of these. The car itself came out from Japan last year, is fitted with a half roll cage, very firm suspension and those lovely 15" watanabes so it looks the part. This is it...mine now!! . Any info greatly appreciated, if not tell us some more about Z432's and such :cheeky: Cheers, Jim.
  20. I will be googling..but... Anybody know anything about thes guys in Japan? Anything about the engines at all? Anybody heard of them? Thanks, :classic: Jim.

Possible urban legend... A car club in Australia, story I heard said a "Leyland P76 "club, enquired about having tail light lenses remade. The originals were all fading badly from the original red and amber, to a very washed out clear pink and orange.New stock had gone NLA years before. A chinese manufacturer was given a set of sample lenses and the order made. To the horror of the club members when the new lenses arrived and were unpacked...sure enough, perfect reproductions of the original Faded samples that had been supplied!! If going repro, make sure your chosen manufacturer knows what you expect. I really hope this wasn't true but it is one of those stories that a lot of people seem to know about. Jim.

"I'm going to run it on a 3.0 L-motor for vintage, track fun, and street mayhem" My intentions exactly!! You can see why those 'glass paks were called "HotDogs" down here in Oz.

Interesting fact about the cattledogs..it would suggest as you do ecp48 (wassat?), that noise was the issue with a twin pipe street system. Thanks for that! YES!..well almost Symon, that shiney system in your gallery is almost the same layout as the old Prince GTB, without the collector at the front. I just gotta try it! ..Oh , while I think about it Symon, remind me to send you some Silvia pics and info I've gathered. There may be something amongst it you don't already have. Cheers, Jim.

Thanks for the reply Gary, The background on this is; I had a '66 Prince Skyline GT, original exhaust was twin system ending in one common muffler with a twinpipe out. After a mild cam upgrade this was changed to a "hotdog" muffler in each branch as in intermediate muffler, I think these are the same as your straight through glass packs, ending in a separate larger muffler for each branch....absolutely glorious sound, very ferrari like on the right road, you know ...6800.. change!, 6800..change! My next project I would like to get as close to the same sound, but as i said earlier I haven't seen any modified systems on the L series that run two completety separate pipes out the rear. This got me thinking there may be issues that make it necessary to join the two pipes into one at some point. Your notes on resonance and back rap (good description!) are definately food for thought. Now I wonder if the fact my earlier system had mufflers right on the end of each branch helped reduce the effect to something acceptable. I know I'm just gonna have to try it and see! But please...any and all comments, advice will be welcomed. Jim.

Hi there, With respect to the L 24--> L28 engine, if the exhaust system is set up as two separate pipes from headers (3 into 1, times 2) to outlets, does this pose any tuning issues? The induction is 3 x2 choke dcoe sidedraughts. The reason I ask is any factory system I've seen with twin exhausts seem to incorporate a single(common to both pipes) muffler somewhere. Anybody got any technical experience of this setup? or can advise on what I should be considering? Thanks guys! Jim.
