Hello Alan, Jim in Sydney here. I felt there was something I just had to share with you. While reading through this thread and associated pages I can hear an electric Bass guitar being played in another room of the house, practise it is,..and the tune is Devo's"Girl U want"...it has a good strong Bass riff. You see Tex, the budding "Gerry Casale" is my nearly 15 year old son Liam. Liam was born at 20 weeks gestation, about 2-3 months premature in September 1989, weighing in at a grand total 0f 923 grams, or around 2 pounds!! under circumstances very similar to those that yourself and your good lady Rosanne found yourselves with Kate. As I read through Kates story, so many memories came back to me of the times my wife and I (and Liam!) went through, the same medical terms, same complications, charts, visits, and the long trips back home after etc. Whew! it's amazing the feelings/emotions that come sneakin' in as well mate! He spent just on three months in a humidicrib, with us visiting each day. There were a few little ups and downs along the way but the general trend was good. once again this lines up with little Katies progress. Cut back now to today, Liam is 5"10" , strong as a mallee bull and so healthy he's dangerous:D !! The thing is ..I reckon the odds and the gods are on your side, and in 15 years time you'll find yourself listening to Kates practised rendition of that old favourite....?geez by then , who knows?!!..and definitely wanting a ride in Dads restored vintage sports car! Stay positive!! All the best to you and your family, Regards, Jim.

Thankyou Alan, once I get a good look at the case I'll let you know what I find. Regards, Jim.

I know it's a bit removed from 240K's but might be of interest......My HZ 0neTonner has a Dellow supplied 5Speed conversion behind its 253, a Supra box(from Jeff Dellow) with a Dyna clutch, set up about 6-7 years ago...just beaute!

I would like to confirm just what the gearbox is. So...how are the boxes identified, and whereabouts on the box are these codes you speak of?? Once again thanks guys. Due to a maze of circumstances,(the facts are stranger than fiction, but probably familiar to you guys!) nothing will happen in a hurry, but, Datto Zed I will try and get some shots of the Prince in its current state, which is about 90% done.

Thankyou Gentlemen, you have piqued my interest somewhat!!:classic: Just to expand on the box; It was suggested to be worth around the $3000(aussie) dollar mark when the combination was assembled in 1989-90. At the time I put it down to "talk" and let it be. I have recently inherited the project, and managed to track the chap who built the engine and sourced the gearbox, so hopefully in the near future I will learn all about it! My original idea was to remove the engine and gearbox for a more suitable vehicle (I was thinking BOLWELL Mk 7) as it currently resides in a restored1965 PRINCE Skyline GT, and is simply far too much for the braking and handling capabilities of the old Prince. I would much rather source an original G7 2litre for the Prince. I now have other plans for the L series Nissan motor and box...as I don't have the car yet I won't say what, but I will say it is a Nissan vehicle that could handle it, and possibly already runs a very similar combination:D This is why I would like to confirm just what the gearbox is. So...how are the boxes identified, and where are these codes you speak of?? Once again thanks guys, I know there is a lot of possiblies / maybes in all of this but it is certainly a direction I'm fiercely determined to head in. Cheers, Jim.

I would like to add my voice to this question! I have a NISSAN 5 speed tied to a worked 3litre(out from 2.8L) that has a 1:1 (ie NOT overdrive) 5th gear. Any ideas on what it could be? Came from a rally comp. workshop many(15+) years ago, and was professionally put together Cheers, Jim. Sydney Aust.

Hey thanks Ben! Yair.... I realise I've come in through the Z gate:D ....but to bastardize a phrase " Open the bonnets(hoods).....they're all sisters":devious: V12 horse huh! My all time favorite shape is the '62 250 GTO. Not that far removed from the 240 Zed(OOPs Zee). Isn't California the birthplace of the concept of the Z car, some renegade Nissan exec. who obviously knew his market? I'll have to send you a scan of a brochure (it got that far!)of a local idea that got bzzzed by the beancounters just before the Datsun 240 Z was released here in OZ. Called the GTRX, by Holden (GM) 2 door Fibreglass body, hideaway headlights, 186 cu.in(just over 3 litres) motor, triple single throat sidedraught strombergs, lumpy cam, cast headers. Would have been interesting to see as it would have been in direct competition to the Z car. What's the distinction between a 240 Z and a fairlady Z? A fairlady in the aussie market was a 4 cylinder datsun convertable sports car, the SR 311 from memory. I remember as a kid, when they were new, finding one that had been stolen and dumped over a scrubland ledge, no real damage.....and the cops just refused to believe me, "Couldn't possibly be a new car son, it's probably an old junker with the roof cut off!!" Talk to you later, Jim.

Hi everyone, Jim here, 48 year old married with 2 boys, confirmed Skyline NUT. I can't believe what I have found just in this forum! Now I don't own a 240K, but I have owned a few Prince and Nissan Skyline GT's.I expect most here will appreciate the connection to the 240K. As the cars went years ago, I still maintained a strong interest in the '65 to '73 era of the Skyline. ...and what do I find here? Princes, Z432's talk of PGC10's KPGC10's, KPGC110's....Fantastic!! What actually got me in was a recent thread on a conversion of a 240K to a GT-R clone, an idea I had that I now realise is not so original. Geez I never knew so many people outside Japan were aware of the historical GT-R's...S20 engine etc. I've had to make do with 1/18 and 1/43 diecasts of the range, along with a LOT of various scale plastic kits. For those interested I have a few '64-'66 Prince manuals, brochures etc with some Gloria , 4 cylinder and truck stuff as well, going back to 1959! Some time in the near future I hope to own a vehicle of the '72-'73 range, GT-R clone or similar?!? I just have to see what pans out! ...Anyway, I'll chime in when I feel it's worthwhile, and feel free to say G'day ! Cheers, Jim.

Hey AlfaDog, By the sounds of it , you need to replace what I think is called the "Bailey channels" the black felt/rubber channels that the glass slided in as it goes up or down. Replacement rubber suppliers like Spectrum Rubber & Panels(found them at restorershotline.com.au) or Scotts old auto rubber and panels? Worth a try. Regards, Jim. Spectrum Scotts
