  1. I guess I forgot to say that I also agree with DatsunZsRule . That's what I get for not completely reading all of the posts in a thread before replying. DatsunZsRule, I see you're in Minnesota. Snow yet? Already put your Z away from the winter? Perhaps you're a little touchy due to Z withdrawl? :cheeky: Cheers,
  2. I agree with Arne. Put some new struts on first...then get some springs and sway bars. For me, adding stiffer springs and aftermarket sway bars was the best upgrade I've made to my 1973 240Z. I went with Suspension Techniques Sport Springs and sway bars. After the installation, my car corners flatter and handles more neutrally (I love the occasional four wheel drift on freeway onramps ). The car also sits lower with the aftermarket springs and has a nice stance. Cheers, Sean
  3. "My father in law just gave me a 1971 240z, original owner care that has been in the garage for 30 years. 24k original miles. No rust anywhere. Still smells new inside." Wow, what a gift! Damn I'm envious. Welcome to the site. Cheers.
  4. Check the following thread: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19272&highlight=choke It could be a sticking choke. Cheers,
  5. Well, I finally got the video camera out and mounted it on a tripod between the seats. The following is the link for the In Car Video accelerating through about 70 mph (10 sec video). I plan to take some video from outside both at idle and under acceleration in the next few days. http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=18072&cat=500&page=1 As the video is approx. 2 Megs, you may have to let it load before playing it, or it will be "jumpy". Again, here is the link to my exhaust config. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12474&page=2&pp=15&highlight=dynomax+2.5%22 Personally, I love how my exhaust sounds under load. I'm interested to see what you think. Cheers,
  6. One other thing to check is that you actually have a "choke cable" and not a "bicycle brake type cable". When I bought my car, the previous owner had relocated the choke lever to under the dash and replaced the cable with, what I assume was a bicycle brake cable. The old cable did a good job of pulling the choke open, but did a really poor job of pushing the choke closed. After my car was warmed up, I had to stop the car, open the hood, jump out, push each of the chokes closed, close the hood, jump in the car and proceed. It really sucked when it was raining! When I had my new motor installed, I installed an OEM choke cable and the problem was solved. Just one more thing to look for. Cheers,

  11. SavannahZ, Great idea. We just got a new digital video cam a few months ago and I've been meaning to take some video of the my 240Z. For those researching potential exhaust configs, this would be an excellent resource. I'll try to make a video this weekend and then mess with the new video editing software I got with the camera. Here's the posting with my exhaust config: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12474&page=2&pp=15&highlight=dynomax+2.5%22 I think it sounds great. I'm interested to see what you all think when I post the video. Cheers,
  12. As an epilogue to this post, I ran into the guy who owns the Chevelle SS at a local car show this weekend. I introduced myself and we had a good talk. Turns out he's a really nice guy. His car is a 1970 Chevelle SS 396 with auto trans, and it's in really nice shape. He told me that he was really surprised at how quick my car was and said that he had his foot to the floor and couldn't catch me. Since our early morning run in, he has installed a 502 GM crate motor. I'm thinking the next time I run into him at a stop light, he might be more than I can handle. Well I guess I'll just have to give it a shot! Cheers,
  13. http://www.datsuns.com/Tech/tech_aero.htm On this Datsun Website they have an aero HP calculator spread sheet (doesn't account for rolling resistance). They list the 240Z Cd as approx. 0.465. They also use 80% of the (height) x (width) to calculate frontal area (for a stock 240z this works out to be approx. 50.5"x64" = 18 ft^2 or 1.67m^2). Cheers,
  14. Axefreak, Welcome to the club! Before you tear apart your head, take a look at you intake/exhaust gasket to make sure it hasn't come apart (this was the source of the clatter from my head). Also, take a look at the following link for other potential solutions. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15076 This forum's search feature is very good and you'll often be able to find answers to many of the questions you might have. Welcome again. Cheers,
  15. TTDriver, WLK 17519 available from summit racing might meet your requirements. http://www.dynomax.com/documents/ultrafloss_specs.pdf 3" inlet 2x2.5" outlet. Cheers,
  16. TTDriver, I have a Dynomax Ultraflow SS muffler (WLK-17283) from Summit Racing (http://store.summitracing.com/) installed on my 240Z. The measurements are below. Case Length (in): 14.00 Overall Length (in): 19.00 Thickness (in): 4.25 Width (in): 9.75 A 19 inch case length sounds too big to me. You can see details of my exhaust installation @ http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12474&page=2&pp=15 Cheers,

Gavin, Not at all. Actually, I've got a 5 Meg version of that pic if you want it. Cheers,
  19. Christopher, Thank you. The paint was a custon mix to fairly closely match the 1973 240Z Green Metallic (#113). The paint has more gold metallic flake than the stock color. When in direct sunlight, the metallic flake tends to lightens the green. I didn't get the engine compartment painted but you wouldn't know it to look at it. The car was painted in 1996 and has been my daily driver (except in those cold Canadian winters) since I bought it in 1991. I've put almost 50,000 miles on it over the last 14 years (now has 128,000 miles). Cheers,
  20. I always shift into 1st gear prior to selecting reverse and this tends to eliminate the grinding while shifting into reverse. Cheers,
  21. Victor, I've also got a '73 240Z (though I have four-screw carbs). I installed a Motorsports 6-into-1 headers earlier this year and had to slightly bend the heatshield upwards to clear the rear pipe. After running with the headers, I realized that I had a fuel vapourization with the rear carb and made an extension for the heatshield under the rear carb (Pic of Heat Shield Extension). Not really pretty but effective. Since I added the extension, I've had no fuel vapourization problem. The header installation was not wthout its problems. See the following thread for info on the Motorsport's header installation (MSA 6-into-1 Header Issues) . Cheers,
