  1. bemmerguy714 - I've never dynoed my car. If you want info on the L28, 5-speed, 3.9 diff change you can look at the following link: http://zhome.com/rnt/L28conversion/engine.html If you want to see what's possible for a normally aspirated L28 in a streetable Z then take a look at the following link: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/566675/2 Jeff - It's good to hear from you. How's the SilverZ running? Cheers,
  2. Bemmerguy714, My 1973 240Z has a Nissan Remanufactured 2.8L Long Block (stock compression), Schneider Performance Camshaft, Nissan Electronic Ignition, Motorsport 6-1 Headers (coated), 2 1/2" Exhaust with bullet muffler and Dynomax straight through muffler, rebuilt 1972 Carburetors. I also installed a 5-speed and 3.9 R200 differential from an 1983 280ZX. Cheers,
  3. Tomohawk, A couple of months ago I downloaded a really cool video of an Audi Quattro rally car going up Pike's Peak. The file is titled "Course de Pikes Peak (Ari Vatanen).mpeg". I'd post it here but the file is 68 MBs. If you Google the file name you should find it. It's well worth the download time. Cheers,
  4. Ed, I just took a look at your gallery. Man that's one sweet ride you're building. I see you've got the engine installed. How long before you get it ready to drive? Cheers,
  5. Bill, I guess I should have better titled my initial message. BTW that's one cool avatar! Cheers,
  6. ncz, The color my car is painted is based upon the 1973 240Z green (avocado?) with a lot of gold metalic flake mixed in. It's a base coat / clear coat. When the sun hits the car, it's stunning. Cheers,
  7. Vicky - No, unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to make the autoX. I'm getting ready to head out on vacation at the end of next week (10-26 June). We'll be doing a tour of Florida. Actually, if I time it just right, I may be able to pass through Ocala on the 11th. I guess we'll see. I don't think my wife would want me running the Honda (Odyssey) through the autoX though. I can just imagine the tires howling in protest! Kinfish - I just checked the following link and it looks like a 396 Chevelle should run 0-60 mph in the 6.5 sec range (http://www.musclecarclub.com/musclecars/chevrolet-chevelle/chevrolet-chevelle-history.shtml). I also recently ran a late model Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT (0-60 mph 5.7 sec) form a standing start and held my own (door handle to door handle) http://www.modernracer.com/subarulegacygt.html and a 2001ish BMW M3 Convertable (0-60 mph ~5.4 sec) from a rolling start, couldn't close on me. http://www.albeedigital.com/supercoupe/articles/0-60times.html A few years ago I ran against my buddies 300ZX TT (Stock, 0-60 mph 5.2-6sec) from a standing start and he could not close on me through 65 mph. I figure my 240Z would run 0-60mph in 5.5-6.0 sec range. DISCLAIMER - all of these runs were made on a secluded four-lane highway where the limit is 55 mph and I usually back out of the throttle after I shift into third (~62mph). :classic: PS: I changed the title of my post
  8. Part of the route I travel to work each day is along a four lane divided highway which has a well positioned stop light and a straight stretch of road. One morning last week I was approaching the light in the left lane when it turned red. A late 60's Chevelle SS was in the right lane and he decided to pull into the left lane in front of me just before the intersection. Of course I moved into the right lane and approached the light. As I slowed I noticed that the Chevelle SS was in really nice shape. It was painted arrest-me-red with two white racing stripes and a vanity plate which read "2 FAST". I pulled to a stop and looked over. It was on. When the light turned green, I dropped the clutch and took off. As I shifted into second, I could see the Chevelle in my side mirror, about two car lengths back with its nose raised high as he tried to catch up. As I shifted into third, I eased off at about 65 mph and the Chevelle continued accelerating past me, the driver looking pissed off. I tell you, that morning run made my whole day... On a totally unrelated issue, I just finished reading "Cannonball!: World's Greatest Outlaw Road Race" by Brock Yates. This is a truly entertaining read that I recommend to any car nut out there. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0760316333/002-4430314-5696828?v=glance
  9. nightowlZ, Welcome to the club. For floors, I know that Zedd Findings based out of Kingston, Ontario (http://www.datsunzparts.com/NewParts/summary.htm) has replacement floors. You might also want to check with Ross @ Modern Motorsports (http://www.modern-motorsports.com/catalog/default.php) for a look at the goodies he produces. FYI Ross is a great guy who produces quality parts and is based out of Vancouver. Cheers,
  10. Do you have the original choke cables installed? When I got my car, a previous owner had replaced the carb cables with bike brake cables (I think). The bike cables were not stiff enough to push the chokes back up every time. So the chokes would often stick open. Once I replaced with the proper cables, no more problems. Cheers,
  11. Tomohawk, I use a Dynomax Bullet Race Muffler as a pre-muffler / resonator which I got from Summit Racing. It works like a charm and really reduced the volume and resonance (I drove the car for a week with just the muffler and it was really loud when I got on it). Below is a description of my set-up: L28 (F-54 block, P-79 head) Schnieder Stage 2 Cam Motorsport 6-into-1 coated header - 2.5" mandrel bent alluminized steel exhaust - Dynomax Ultraflow SS muffler (WLK-17283) http://store.summitracing.com/ http://www.dynomax.com/ultrafloss.stm - Dynomax Bullet Race Muffler (WLK-24236) http://store.summitracing.com/ Cheers,
  12. Teddy, That was me you were talking to. I hope MSA does the right thing for you. Cheers,
  13. dk240z, Unfortunately my 240Z will not be making the trip with me. I'm travelling with my wife and two kids and the kids tend to complain when I shove them in the back with the luggage . I was just being selfish, hoping to see some nice Texas Z and meet some of you guys. If you want pics of my wheels, I can take some and post them to my gallery. Let me know. The wheels were painted and clear-coated before I bought the car. Cheers,
  14. Hey Austin, TX Z guys, I'll be driving out to Austin on 18 March to visit my brother. I was wondering if there are any Z events planned form the 19th to the 27th March in the Austin area? I tried to check the Capital Z of Texas website but it appears to be down. Cheers,
  15. Scotty, I was 19 when I bought my 240Z (my first car). I knew very little about maintaining / repairing cars when I got it, but I have learned over the years. For most of my life, I lived in Canada so I stored my car in the winters and did a lot of walking / begging for rides. That's something to think about if you live where it snows in the winter. If you drive in the snow / salt, the car will rust out from underneath you. Initially, I was hesitant to work on my car as it was my only vehicle. When my fiance bought a car, I started to complete more of my own repairs. One thing would be to check if there is a Z Club in your area. I've always found fellow Z owners to be very helpful. I was fortunate when I lived in Kingston, Ontario, a couple of guys in the local Z Club really got me started in completing my own major repairs (i.e. helped me replace my clutch and later, my transmission). I have used my car as a daily driver since 1995 and have put approx. 55,000 miles on it since 1991. Last month I drove to Orlando for the Florida Z Fest and put over 900 miles on my car over the weekend with no problems. In closing, I would much rather own a classic car which I can work on myself than a Honda Civic or other sub-compact. Cheers,
  16. This 240Z (http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=14223&size=big&sort=2&cat=3218, http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=14224&sort=2&cat=3218, http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=14225&sort=2&size=medium&cat=3218, I think it is owned by Bill Coffee) was at the 2005 Z-Fest in Orlando. The picture does not do the car justice. The color was awesome. I think Bill mentioned that it is a GM color. This was definitely the nicest race car I've ever seen. Cheers,
  17. 240ZX, I bought the MSA system with Super Turbo muffler but decided to replace the muffler with the Ultraflow SS (i.e. straight thru). I actually drove the car for a while with just the Ultraflow and the car sounded awesome, but really, REALLY LOUD when I got on it. In this config, there was also more resonance with the 2.5" vs. the 2.25" I replaced (my 2.25" system was a MSA 6-2-1 header, 2.25" shop bent exhaust with Flo-Pro muffler - in this config I also had resonance ~1,500-2,000 rpm). However, once I installed the Bullet Race Muffler on the 2.5" system, the resonance basically went away and the system was much quieter. At idle, I have a deep rumble and now when I get on it, it sounds awesome!! Cheers,
  18. 26th-Z, The guy they made dance was Harry from Alabama (Mobile I think). It was his 33rd birthday on Friday night. He's got a pretty sweet 350Z (Pikes Peak White). I was pretty lucky. I hooked up with the rest of the club through the SFZCC ZFest Forum. They'd basically started the club with a bunch of 350Z with a sprinkling of 300ZX (Z32's). They welcomed me into the club with open arms and I brought a couple of 240Z friends with me. Vicky, Thank you. Of course ZrRush is in a league all by itself. You've done an unbelievable job building your car! I especially love the leather interior (I wonder how many cows gave their hides to complete it?!?) Cheers,
  19. Beandip, I've got a 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust system with the Dynomax Ultraflow SS with a Dynomax Bullet Race Muffler installed as a resonator just aft of the MSA 6-1 header collector. You can get the part #'s and sources I used from the following thread. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12474&page=2&pp=15&highlight=dynomax+2.5%22 I love the sound and performance of my exhaust set-up. I do not find the exhaust too loud (I just drove to Orlando and back last weekend for ZFest ~ 900 miles) or the resonance bad at all (almost non-existent). ZSaint, As for the muffler, the inlet is in the middle and the outlet is at the bottom. Cheers
