Gus, It was nice to meet you. I look forward to next year. Cheers,

Joe aka 240ZTT, A friend of mine, Jeff Flemming, from Kingston, Ontario has a N/A 240Z, "Silver Bullet" with a 3.0L L28 I wish I'd replicated when I put the L28 in my car (http://www.cardomain.com/id/silver_bullet240). Maybe next time I rebuild! From his site: "3.0lt L28 engine (10:5 comp), Dynoed @ 232 RWHP, great power range from 3000 to 7500 rpm. This engine was built to get the best power possible while not sacrificing drivability. This is a great street car with ultimate performance abilities. This is a very tractable engine, not a “race only†engine." Cheers,

Daddz, The club actually just started three weeks ago. We got our shirts at the IHOP before we departed for Orlando. Right now the majority of our club members have 350Z's (8) with two 300ZX's and three 240Z's, but there are a lot of cars in the area. The drive to Orlando took a while due to an accident or two and some rain. When the road is clear, it's about a six hour drive from Ft Walton Beach to Orlando. If you're ever in the area, drop me a line. Cheers,

New setup, What I have, what do I need?
Sean240Z replied to Capt Mark's topic in Suspension & Steering
Capt Mark, It was nice to meet you at ZFest. I've got Suspension Techniques Sport Springs and anti-sway bars installed on my car with standard KYB strut inserts (non-adjustable). I also installed a complete urethane bushing kit (including steering coupler), which I think I bought through Victoria British about seven years ago. I'm very pleased with my set-up. Cheers, -
Marty, If you install a Bullet style muffler just behind the header collector with a 2.5" exhaust, you will basically eliminate the booming sound. You can read details of my install at the following link. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12474&page=2&pp=15&highlight=header+msa+problem Cheers,

I had a really good time (even with the rain). I drove down from Ft Walton Beach on Friday with nine 350Zs from the Panhandle Z Club. I met the club members for the first time on Friday and joined their club (a great bunch of guys). As the only non-350Z who made the drive down from Ft Walton Beach, before we started driving some of the 350Z guys were a little concerned that I may not have been able to keep up (they needn't have worried!). We averaged 80-90 mph on the way down and it was fun! Overall, it would have been nice to see more S30s at the show, but I can appreciate the time and effort the other enthusiasts have put into their cars Z33, Z32, Z31, etc. I met some cool people and had a great time. I think I spent 20 hours driving my car over the three days and covered approx. 1,000 miles. For those S30 owners who were scared off by the rain, buy a umbrella and a chamois. :classic: These cars were made to be driven. I'll definitely be back next year. I hope to see more of you there. ENJOY THE RIDE. PS: It was great to meet Art Singer (SportZ Magazine), Carl Beck, Bill Coffee, Ross Corrigan (Modern Motorsports), Seerex, Vicky (ZRush), 26th Z (for those who don't know he doesn't have 26 Z Cars, he owns serial #26!) and all the others whose names I can't remember (sorry, I'm awful with names) Cheers,

Suspension Techniques Anti-Roll bar
Sean240Z replied to mattymatmat's topic in Suspension & Steering
I've got the Suspension Techniques front and rear anti-sway bars with Suspension Techniques Sport Springs installed in my '73 240Z. I installed these components in 1999 and I am very pleased with the handling and stance of the car. The rear Suspension Techniques anti-sway bar comes with diff/mustache bar hanging brackets so there is no need to get them fabricated. -
I had my rad recored last year. I went to my local Nissan dealer and they recommended a local rad shop. I had it recored with a three-core high-efficiency unit. I believe it cost in the neighborhood of $US 150. The 240Z runs much cooler now, I'm very pleased with the results. Cheers,

SEEREX - I've got the MSA 2.5 exhaust too. I did not use the Turbo muffler provided with the kit but installed a Dynomax Ultraflow SS muffler with a Dynomax Bullet Race Muffler just behind the header. I'm very pleased with the sound. If you're going to be in Orlando on 25/26 Feb for the ZFest, I'll take you for a spin. Cheers, Sean. PS: You can read about my install at the following thread. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12474&page=2&pp=15

Florida Zfest Orlando Feb 25-27 Registration Forms
Sean240Z replied to westpak's topic in United States
It looks like I'll be driving down to the show from the Fort Walton Beach area on Friday 25 Feb. Anyone nearby or passing through want to convoy along I10? Cheers, -
Two weeks ago I finally got my reworked exhaust installed with the Dynomax Bullet Race muffler installed. The final configuration sounds awesome. The installation of the bullet muffler really reduced the resonance and significantly quieted down the exhaust. There is still some resonance but it seems to have moved down the rev range to approx. 1600 RPM and narrowed the resonance from a ~500 RPM band to a 100 RPM band. One additional finding was that even with the ceramic coating, after idling at a drive-thru for 10 minutes, the underhood temperature was enough to cause a vapour lock problem (i.e. a miss with the engine under load). The main problem is that the 6-into-1 header puts one of the header pipes about five inches under the rear float bowl. I ended up re-wrapping the fuel lines with insulation (similar to the OEM insulation) and building an extended heat shield under the rear carb float bowl. It appears that the wrap and heat shield have done the trick and I no longer have the vapour lock problem. Cheers,

To give you a final update on my situation, I spoke with Kurt at Motorsport and he told me the same thing as reported by 240ZMan (i.e. a problem with the manufacturer's jig). At first he wanted me to pull the entire exhaust off my car and Motorsport would pay to ship it back to California. They would then send me a properly configured exhaust system. As this car is my daily driver, this would not work for me. So I proposed that I take my 240Z to a muffler shop and get an estimate to fix the problem, and that Motorsport would pay. Yesterday, I got the quote (~$80) and Motorsport agreed to reimburse my credit card. I'll be taking my car in on Saturday to get the section of pipe after the collector replaced. I'm still a little ticked that Motorsport sold me a "bolt on exhaust system" that didn't fit properly especially when this issue was previously identified to Motorsport, but overall, I'm satisfied with their customer service to "make it right". If I had to do this again, I would buy the header from Motorsport and get a good local muffler shop to build a custom exhaust for me. My problem is, that being in the military, I move so often that it is difficult to find a "good" muffler shop or garage. Ironically, I finally found what appears to be a very good muffler shop after I had already purchased and installed my Motorsport exhaust system (Majic Muffler in Fort Walton Beach - specializes in custom exhaust for drag cars and often dynos a number of systems before coming up with his final design for a race application. The owner kept stressing to me the importance of quality work and how his business was built upon his reputation). In summary, the final system I'll have in place after Saturday's tweaks will be: Motorsport 6-into-1 coated header - 2.5" mandrel bent alluminized steel exhaust - Dynomax Ultraflow SS muffler (WLK-17283) http://store.summitracing.com/ http://www.dynomax.com/ultrafloss.stm - Dynomax Bullet Race Muffler (WLK-24236) http://store.summitracing.com/ - Dynomax Stainless Steel band clamp (slip joint) (WLK-33226) http://store.summitracing.com/ - Dynomax Stainless Steel band clamp (butt joint) (WLK-33240) http://store.summitracing.com/ NOTE: I decided not to use the Dynomax "Turbo" muffler (http://www.dynomax.com/superturbo.stm) that came with the Motorsport alluminized exhaust system and go with the straight through Ultraflow (410 CFM vs 1000 CFM). My current engine config is as follows: L28 (F-54 block, P-79 head) Schnieder Stage 2 Cam no head work Previous to my exhaust upgrade, I had a Motorsport 3-into-2 header, not coated but wrapped with header tape, a 2.25" shop bent (i.e. not mandrel bent) exhaust system and a "Flo Pro" performance muffler. NOTE: I would definitely not recommend wrapping your uncoated header. My header was only four years old and it rusted through and had a dime sized hole in one of the pipes. This occured with storing my car in sub-zero temps for probably five months of the year! With my previous system the car performed very well. I never dyno'd my car or took it to the drag strip but a drag racing friend told my it felt like a low 14 second car and I was able to stay with another friends mostly stock 300ZX TT up to approx 130 mph (don't ask!). (FYI: 5-speed with 3.9 R200) I've been driving my 240Z for the last week with the new header, 2.5" exhaust (yes, with the pipe contacting the transmission mount) and just the Ultraflow muffler installed (i.e. no race bullet muffler). In this config, my car does not appear to have lost any bottom end grunt and now REALLY pulls hard from 3,500 RPM on up. In its current config, the exhaust has a deep rumble at idle, but gets buzzy (dare I say RICEY) from 2,000 - 2,500 RPM. I'm hoping the bullet race style muffler just aft of the transmission mount will reduce the resonance. Once I have my system in its final config, I'll post a final message. Finally, this forum is awesome. I like to research any upgrades I make to my car before I spend my hard earned cash. I've got to say that the advice and suggestions of those of you who regularly contribute to this forum is invaluable. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Cheers,

I just installed my MSA 6 into 1 header and had the same transmission mount interference problem. Did Ken ever post a picture of his fix (i.e. cutting and welding the pipe just behind the collector)? If not, Ken, could you please send me / post a pic of your solution? I'm a little ticked off at MSA  . This problem was identified by 240ZMan at least six months ago, and MSA is still selling the defective headers. I have a call into MSA right now. When I get a response / resolution, I'll post the results. Cheers,

240Zdragon72, I’m quite familiar with synching carbs and I have a UniSync Tool. I also have the ZTherapy video I can loan to you. Let me know when you’re available this weekend, and I’ll come over and give you a hand. Cheers

My rear defogger was not working for quite a while. I finally found a blown inline fuse behind the radio on the passenger side. Replaced the fuse (and the inline fuse holder) and rear defog works great. My $0.02. Cheers,

It may seem obvious, but check that your exhaust manifold gasket is not leaking. A couple of months ago, I thought I'd damaged a valve after a spirited run down some back roads. There was some serious clattering coming from the front of the engine, and when I investigated further, I found that I'd blown a half inch section of my exhaust manifold gasket away. The exhaust manifold was leaking right underneath the thermostat housing, so it wasn't obious (at least not to me). Cheers, Sean

From the album: Sean's Green 240Z
I hated shipping my 240z to Florida, but my wife wouldn't go for me drivibg the 240z while she drove the minivan with two kids and two cats! My car should be delivered this week...hopefully in one piece. -
My rad sprung a leak last summer. I took it to the local Nissan shop and they forwarded it to their "rad" guy. I had it recored with a three core, high efficiency unit (~$130), now my Z runs cool! Cheers,
