  1. Rossiz - I have a similar set-up and I love the sound. If you find that the transmission tunnel gets hot with the resonator close to the driver side, I'd suggest you install a Thermo-Tec Heat Shield as per followng post: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/exhaust-s30/48907-reducing-cabin-transmission-tunnel-temperature-thermo-tec-heat-shield-exhaust.html For me, the heat shield greatly reduced the trans tunnel temps.
  2. Steve - Thanks. Yes, the rear speaker on the passenger side just fits under the bump in the plastic panel. I sized it to fit in that space and notched the corner to allow it to fit closer to the panel. Cheers,
  3. Yesterday at Katie's, a guy spoke to me about my car for about 10 minutes. He said that he had owned five or six Z's over the years and that he'd like to buy my 240Z, with cash, today. I told him that I'd had my Z for 23yrs (my first car) and would never consider selling it. That said, I was curious what his first offer would be if we were to negotiate its sale. He told me his opening offer would be $15,000. I've often had people ask me if I'd consider selling my Z. This was the first time I've had anyone put a dollar figure to an offer. Any others, had similar encounters?
  4. Audun - Welcome to the site! I concur with Hardway: Buy the best, most rust free car you can afford. Replacing parts is relatively easy compared to major rust repairs and metal work.
  5. Bill, When you swapped transmissions, did you change the clutch and pressure plate? If no, when you installed the five-speed, did you reuse the clutch collar that came off the car? The correct answer is yes. The clutch collar has to match the clutch and pressure plate. When I changed my clutch last year, I had to order a new clutch collar, as the new clutch I bought was a different thickness than the one I pulled off my Z.
  6. Cliff - I was just getting ready to point Andreas to my post in the difficulties I had installing the full dash cap on my '73. Andreas - It can be made to work / fit on a '73. The installation is not perfect in the left vent area; however, I'm the only one who will really notice. Let me know if you need any further advice.
  7. Mine was in 2007, driving my Z, 3,200miles from Eglin, Florida to Cold Lake, Alberta. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/open-general-discussions/26355-long-road-home.html#post222314 When I bought my 240Z in 1991 it had 71,000 miles on the odometer. On this trip, my odometer rolled through 142,000 miles, meaning I'd driven my Z more miles than all the other owners combined, making it truly mine.
  8. Jeff - Thanks! Greg - I think the sound deadening made a big difference; however, these Z's will never be as quiet as a modern car.
  9. Update: After much deliberation, I cut holes in my new dash cover and cut corresponding holes in the top of the dash for the tweeters to flush mount and a grove in the dash to the outboard sides for the speaker wires. I'm very happy with the results (my dash was in such poor shape that this was not too difficult a decision to make).
  10. That's a Mk 1 Lotus Cortina. Nice, though I prefer white with green stripe.
  11. Dan, I also had to deal with firewall holes following removal of aircon. To plug/cover the holes I used 3M strip caulk (bought from Amazon), which works really well: 3M Strip Calk 08578 FYI when I installed my exhaust, I replaced the MSA muffler with a Dynomax Ultraflow SS muffler (WLK-17283). The sound produced by my Z with this system installed can be heard in the following video: Sean240z in Car - Classic Zcar Club Photo Gallery
  12. Dan, I added a Dynomax Bullet Race Muffler (WLK-24236) to the MSA exhaust system in the transmission tunnel area, which really quieted the exhaust down and reduced the resonance. I installed the systm 10yrs ago and the exhaust and bullet muffler are still good, though I replaced the header this spring. A description of my exhaust install can be found here: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/help-me/12474-header-problem.html#post111388 I also added a heat shield to the exhaust system that greatly reduced transmission tunnel temperatures: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/exhaust-s30/48907-reducing-cabin-transmission-tunnel-temperature-thermo-tec-heat-shield-exhaust.html Cheers,
  13. Moal Torpedo Torpedo - owned by the same gentleman who owns the above aviation themed hot rod; - has a Ferrari drive train
  14. Bob, I took a couple of pics for you. Normally, you really don't notice the edges of the dash cap. The flash used to take these pics make it a lot more noticeable. 1. I followed the directions / used the adhesive provided. I applied adhesive around the edges of the dash cap (i.e at the ends, near the windshield, at the bottom of the dash cap and around all openings). 2. I see no need to add a layer of foam. Just leave as is.
  15. Attached are some pics of the final installation (I also refinished the metal spokes of my steering wheel and my wood shift knob):
  16. Attached are a few pics from the ZCCNV Show from last weekend: Below is Eiji's (Datsun Spirit) extremely clean ZG: Some of my '73 240Z: Some of the other awesome Z's:
  17. I finally got around to posting some pics from the show. There was an awesome collection of early Zs. Plus I finally got to meet Guy! NOTE: The above white Z with the Rising Sun is currently for sale on Craigs List 1972 Datsun 240Z And finally a Z show car that wasn't my cup of tea, but I could still appreciate the effort that went into it and the attention to detail:
  18. Pics from Katie's - 24 May 14 ~ 0730hrs: Two Italian exotics I had posters of, on my wall as a teenager: An awesome aviation themed hot rod with an aircraft V12 (apparently 1200 lb-ft @ idle) with a dually rear:
  19. One year follow-up: Thermo-Tec Heat Shield works extremely well and keeps transmission tunnel temperatures down.
  20. I've got 16x7 Konig Rewinds with 205/50R-16 Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec tires (Extreme Performance Summer tire). Note my 240Z has been lowered with Suspension Techniques Sport Springs, lowers the car approximately 1.5" over stock. I have had no issues with rubbing and this wheel tire combination fills the wheel arches nicely. This was the best performance ugrade I have made to my Z.
  21. This weekend I installed bump steer spacers from MSA (Motorsport! Bump-Steer Spacers, 15" & Larger Wheels, 70-78 240Z-260Z-280Z - The Z Store! Nissan-Datsun 240Z-260Z-280Z-280ZX-300ZX(Z31/Z32)-350Z-370Z Parts). My car has been dropped using Suspension Techniques Sport Springs and has 16" Konig Rewinds installed). I do not track my car; however, I regularly drive a couple of twisty roads that highlighted a bump steer problem (i.e. when traversing a sharpish corner and I hit a bump mid-corner, the steering wheel would move ~20-30 degrees and the car would feel unsettled, over the bump). Took my Z for a drive after installing the spacers and bump steer is no longer noticeable.
