Moving to Washington D.C.
Minneapolis to Chicago yesterday (409 miles). Chicago to Cambridge, Ontario today (464 miles). Spending tomorrow with family before making our way to McLean, Virginia. I should be able to make it to Wednesday's monthly meeting as the moving truck won't show up until end of the week! Confirm meeting is Wednesday, 7:00pm @ Tyson's Corner Silver Diner?

Moving to Washington D.C.
Thank you for the warm welcome guys! I just rented a house in McLean, VA so the Silver Diner is less than 5 miles from my home! I'll be arriving in McLean on 10 July so depending on when my truck arrives, I might be able to make the meeting on the 11th. The family and I will be convoying down from Winnipeg and I'm looking forward to the drive in the Z (2,900km as we'll be visiting family in southern Ontario). Looking forward to meeting you all. Cheers, Sean

Moving to Washington D.C.
I've got my orders and after only one year in Winnipeg, we're moving to the D.C. area. I noticed that there is a club in the D.C. area, the Z Car Club of Northern Virginia. Are there any members active on this Classic Zcar?
- My 240z is almost done

anyone in winnipeg?
echocluster - I used to be a member of the Edmonton ZCar Club and usually tried to take in a couple of the major events over the summer. I'm in Cold Lake, about 300km north-east of Edmonton so I didn't get down to enough events to justify continuing my membership. Are there many Zed owners in Winnipeg? steve91tt - My brother lives in Austin, so I've spent a bit of time in Texas. Much better roads and ability to drive the Zed year round make Texas a much better location for a classic Zed owner than Winnipeg. I was hoping to be moved to Fort Worth this summer but that didn't work out. So Winnipeg, here I come.

Relocating to Winnipeg
After four years in Cold Lake, I wasn't able to swing another posting to the US, so we're off to Winnipeg in July. Any Z owners in Winnipeg?

Sportmax 002 15x8 or Konig Rewind 16x7?
I've been running the tires at 32psi for the last week and they're great. Not as crisp a turn-in but still very responsive. Of course the tire are much more compliant than they were at 45psi. Overall, I'm extremely pleased :classic:

Sportmax 002 15x8 or Konig Rewind 16x7?
I took them down to 36psi and they work great. I'll see how they feel at 32psi tomorrow.

Sportmax 002 15x8 or Konig Rewind 16x7?
Avatar updated. I'll need to get some new pics this w/e. The tires came from Discount Tire Direct @ 45psi. I'll take some air out and see how they handle. Even at 45psi, they're still smoother than the old tires.

Sportmax 002 15x8 or Konig Rewind 16x7?
S30Driver - Thanks! The tires are awesome! It's amazing what a difference a modern summer tire makes. Though it still keeps threatening to snow again here in northern Alberta. Zedyone kenobi - It looks like you've already got a nice set of Panasports on the Z. I doubt moving from a 15" to 16" wheel would make much difference.

Sportmax 002 15x8 or Konig Rewind 16x7?
First off, thanks to all who contribute to the forums. It's fantastic to have such an awesome source of information dedicated to the early Z cars. My small contribution follows: Well after 19yrs, I finally decided to upgrade the wheels on my Z. It's just getting too hard to find a decent 14" performance tire. For the last five years I had been running 205/60R-14 Falken Zeix tires on my 14x6 "Iron Cross" wheels. These tires were OK but had a fairly soft sidewall. I used to fill them to 45psi to get decent response from them, though they ended up being fairly harsh over bumps. After much research, I decided on 16x7 Konig Rewinds (Gun Metal). I got them from Discount Tire Direct for $125 each (plus $50 online ordering rebate). Next to tires. I did a lot of research (http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/comparisons/09q2/tire_test_nine_affordable_summer_tires_take_on_the_michelin_ps2-comparison_tests/dunlop_direzza_sport_z1_star_spec_page_11) and decided on 205/50R-16 Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec tires, an "Ultra High Performance Summer Tire" . I got also got them from Discount Tire Direct for $114 each (plus $50 Dunlop Rebate). New wheels and tires : Below is a comparison of the two wheel/tire combinations. According to the tire size calculator I used (http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html), the new wheel/tire combination should be 0.4" taller, which looks about right. Though the treadwidth of the tire is the same, you can see the difference between a 6" and 7" wide wheel. After I pulled the old wheels off the car I weighed the old and new combinations, with the following results: - 14x6 Iron Cross with 205/60R-14 Falcon Ziex tires - 37lbs; - 16x7 Konig Rewind with 205/50R-16 Dunlop Direzza's - 39.5lbs. Now for the results: NOTE: My car has Suspension Techniques Sport Springs and Anti-Sway Bars installed. The ST Sport Springs lower the car approximately 1.5" over stock. My first impressions after last night's drive follow: - there are no clearance issues/rubbing with this combination on my lowered car; - after pulling out of the driveway, the tires immediately picked up the sand that remains on the road after the winter (200 Treadwear rating), and peppered the wheel wells (once I got to clear roads, this issue went away); - I found this wheel/tire combination (tires at 46psi) to be more compliant over bumps than my previous combination; - road noise wasn't an issue for me as I have a "sporty" exhaust and drive with the windows open, but wasn't any greater than my previous wheel/tire combination; - now to performance, WOW!!!!!!! What a difference in steering feel/response, cornering is much flatter with increased confidence (I wish I'd made the upgrade earlier). - finally, I think they look great, so does my son; As an aside, I knew that I was going to have to replace my clutch soon (I've got 30,000 miles on the current clutch). Well, these new tires have great traction. So much in fact, that their traction exceeds the "traction" of my clutch. After a spirited start where the revs increased much faster than forward progress would indicate (at first I thought I was spinning the tires), I realized that I'll need to replace my clutch in the very near future.

Where do we all live? New shared Google map
Very cool idea. Hey, I'm the furthest north, at least within Canada and continental US (what's with luv24ds in the arctic? OK I get it now "Occupation - smartass" from his profile)! Wait a minute...that's nothing to brag about. I miss Florida . At least the snow's finally starting to melt. I'm really itchin' to get my Z on the road! Cheers,

steering universal joint
I just had an Out-of-Province inspection completed on my 240Z (requried to re-register my 240Z in Alberta). The garage found that there was excessive play in my steering U-Joint and that it needs to be replaced. Here's the kicker...I've got to complete the repairs in 14 days or I get to pay the $150 inspection fee again . This sucks! From what I've read, my best option is to find a suitable lower steering shaft with U-joint from a wreckers, and replace my worn unit. Did anyone find a source for the steering U-Joint (or "Assembly - Joint Steering Lower, according to the parts fiche)?
