Love that movie, but never saw a Z. Guess I was too busy "working on the guns"

Anyone have a CAD drawing of an S30?
Hi Mike, I have been wanting to create one for over a year but can't justify the time involved yet. I studied this field at Uni but didn't get to develop my skills too much further. I'd really like to be good at this stuff but it requires alot of research tutorials and texture creation. Perhaps ask one of the guys here: http://www.cg-cars.com/ in the forums if they would like to model a 240z? I know someone created a C10. You never know one of those guys might do it just for the challenge? One day I'll get around to doing this as I'd like to experiment with different designs to see how my own vision of the perfect Zcar would look. Cheers, :classic:

Z specific shops around Sydney or Melbourne
Hi Curtis, From the looks of your avatar you already have the sort after "euro" tail lights with amber turn signals. I say "euro" because in Japan, Europe, Australia and NZ we were given these tail lights. It's really only the US that got the Red / Red combo. Anyway other than RHD parts there isn't a whole lot different. Our early Z's all had 5 speeds and I don't believe any had the 4 speed box the US did. We got loads of 2+2's so if you need any specific 2+2 bits you may find what your after. I used to see Zcars in Junk Yards but it's very very rare these days. More chance of finding a 280zx but we didn't get a turbo version or 2 seater for that matter. There are loads of other unique datsun's though. As the others said, we generally buy our bits from the states just because it's easier to find what we need and cheaper alot of the time. If was here for the Gran Prix next year I'd be happy to show you around Melbourne but unfortunately I'll be in Ireland if all goes to plan. I think you'll love Melbourne provided the weather is good. Albert Park is an awesome circuit. You will see you fair share of Skylines as Mike said, but the GTR version is a little more rare than the GTS, GTS-T, GTT etc...

If you could have only one Z-but any Z which would it be?
I voted racing history. I love the old Works rally Zeds they are truely beautiful however if I could have any Z it would have to be BIG SAM . Which originally was an ex works rally car from my understanding, so really best of both worlds. I love the old BRE Zcars, but since it's LHD i'll leave it in the US of A . I have to say though the 432R Fairlady Z comes in a close second and a HS30-H 240zg comes in third. 4th goes to San Sato's (not 100% sure that's his name) white 240z in Japan with ZG flares, Bride Racing seats and 1 mean l28. That's my wish list anyway.

Triple Carbs vs. SU
They seem like a very cool set up, however I have bought myself a set of Triple 44 Mikuni's already. I have 4 SU carbs here also, so I could easily set this up with just a manifold. Given I'm in Australia and shipping all items and the extra expense of conversion from US to AU it probably wouldn't be worthwhile for me. I'd consider buying a manifold just for the ultra cool triple SU look. It looks nice and standard but offers that bit extra. Have you got anything to compare Triple SU's with Triple Mikuni's? Any pro's con's? So at this stage I'm not interested, however I'd be interested in a Triple SU's manifold and possibly linkage set.

Triple Carbs vs. SU
Sounds good I saw some videos on YouTube.com of Mike's yellow 240z with triple SU's manifold it looked awesome. Is that your work? :rambo:

The completed look
Your completely entitled to your opinion. At this stage I may or may not put the flares on my car. I like the rivet style simply because it's very period authentic and many cars of the era ran similar style flares. When it comes to Photoshop I've been learning for some time now. I did this a couple of years back now so I would say my skills have probably improved significantly and I could probably do alot more with it. Books are good but there are lots of online tutorials. One of my favorite sites is www.pixel2life.com there are even good tutorials on doing CF Bonnets. I love the Watanabe Wheels but they are quite expensive and not 3 piece design. I guess it all depends on what you want in the end. Zak look up www.sr240z.com that's the car I photoshopped the wheels from.

Alan Thomas . . . is that you?
Hi Alan, those articles look great. I'm hoping Lachlan can help me get a copy of each. Particularly love the old works rally cars. Are the owners in the process of returning them to what they were like back in the day? Ie: putting all the sponsorship back on them and the driving fog lights up front etc..? They look great!

Valve cover differences
Hi Everyone, I find it interesting that there are two versions of the NISSAN cover. I recently sent one to a friend in the US. I kept the one that I'm half finished polishing with the larger FONT. Is anyone else interested in such covers?
-
Light covers or not?
Hi Craig not sure what options you have here really. The original ZG ones are very expensive $700+ that's with the chrome trimming which is really the expensive part. I don't know of anyone who makes aftermarket ones but you might have some luck trying motorsport auto http://www.thezstore.com/store/merchant.mvc? they sell an aftermarket Gnose I just had a look and can't find it at the moment. http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/CTGY/7AP might be worth emailing them, they might point you in the right direction.

Parts available from JAPAN
Not going to hold my breathe but could you find a set of L14 rods? I have 4 need 2 more. I already have another guy in Japan bidding on a set so might get those but time will tell. Watanabe wheels would be great especially 16" variety.

Steering Rack Differences; 240-Z vs. 260-Z (280-Z)
Quick questions for those still confused mainly myself. 1.) Is a Zerk Fitting the same as a Grease Nipple? 2.) The difference between late rack (260z, 280z) and early rack (240z) is that the early rack has two Zerk fittings allowing it to last longer due to more/better lubrication? This is interesting and contradicting to what I have read previously that the later 260z rack was more robust and therefore better in design.

My third 240Z
Hi Arne, well done you've got yourself a neat little car that's been well cared for. I agree not a fan of the sunroof and the wheels have to go. I'd like to see it with Panasports but I guess some people are sick of them, still a timeless look for me. Sometimes it's neccessary to sell the old car to buy and enjoy the new one. It can often help and give a new shot of motivation and enjoyment. I went through the same process I owned a 73 and had to sell it because I didn't have the funds to fix her up the way I wanted to at the time.
