R33 suspension in 240z
Agreed, at the nationals it didn't seem like it was performing any better than the stock Z's but that could be the driver and I guess the fact it's more of a show Z than a track Z. I think one of the best performing Z's at the Nationals was the early orange 71 with the l24 and tripple solex's.

ATTACKED! A road rage story
I had a similar incident here the guy started following my friend and I at the time I wasn't sure why he decided to follow me but we were going through some backstreets with roundabouts and my 260z was able to manouver through them quite well but on one of them he lost control of the car he was driving and ended up on the nature strip. I took off but he someone found my friend and I at a stop light he walked up I wound down the window calmly and he just went nuts and I copped a punch to the face. Turns out the car was stolen and he was probably paranoid so that's what probably set him off. It's not a nice feeling but I'm alot older now and would probably have dealt with the situation differently and avoided the whole thing. Live and learn I guess.

Save S30-0002
This is excellent. I've heard the HS30 and HLS30 #1-3 cars were melted down at the factory never to see day again. Obviously S30 0002 was a different story. Definately fixable. Maybe we could make a T-shirt saying "Save S30 #2" just like the "Save Ferris" T-Shirts all proceeds could go toward restoring this beauty. This car simply has too much history and too much a pedigree to not be restored. Since the S30 is one of the most important cars in Automotive History. :classic: Great Thread!

ZX ignition/Stock Coil - Ballast = Dead Coil?
I'm not exactly sure what mitsubishi did for nissan. In terms of Zgarage it's one man's opinion and experience the site is an excellent reference but not the be all and end all of Z car knowledge some may think it is. If you could provide a picture of the module on the distributor that would help it seems like it's the same size as the E12 module which would indicate it's not the correct one I'm looking for. I really should provide a picture of mine and compare it with the E12 style distributor so people can see the difference. I'll make sure I do as soon as possible. Cheers Gavin.

ZX ignition/Stock Coil - Ballast = Dead Coil?
Thanks sideshowbob. It's hard to tell from the pics if it is the distributor I'm trying to identify. What will probably be best if If I take a picture of my distributor upclose and personal and get others to comment. I do know this the distributor I have and am trying to find similar ones of contain mitsubishi parts in them and are marked on the module and rotor button. I know because I thought it was strange at first but I'm trying to locate these as I feel they are quite well built over the E12 ones.

- VIDEO - Ok.. I know I love the SR20DET powered 240Z.. now it's in action!
Yeah it does sound a bit strange with the 4 banger doesn't it? However it is lovely and I'm almost sold myself on the flare and Watanabe combination as well as the fender mirrors I think I'll end up doing it . I agree the dash isn't my choice but still a great car.

WTD: Suspension Strut Protective Rubber Boots
Update on the strut boots. I bought the set from www.RockAuto.com with the integrated bump stops. On Ebay is the OEM style Nissan ones http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7985916227&category=6763 Apparently you need the top spring seats that the later S30's used to use these with a seperate bump stop. I believe the others I ordered should work with the early "240z" type. I'll reconfirm this when it arrives but thought it would be useful for anyone reading this thread at a later date.

licence plate light
While on the topic and I believe Will is correct I think they were all Gray or Grey. However I wasn't around in 70-77 so I can't really confirm it. Also I noticed one of the main problems with the license plate globe holder is that there is meant to be two metal sleaves that slide inside it to protect the plastic from the heat of the bulbs. If this is missing the cover becomes warped and cracks. I could find the original bolts for mine either so I had to make do with what I had here something to take care of in the future. Also not that you haven't thought of it already Ed but I cleaned mine up in warm soapy water which and tooth brush to clean up the lense part and the white plastic bit. FWIW Just figured I'd share that since we are on the topic and all.

What's wrong with this picture??
Yeah imho drums are a royal pain in the butt. I hate them so much adjusting and mucking about. I think the wheel cylinders on mine are bad cause I've adjusted them so many times and there either not gripping enough for the handbrake or they bite too much when i'm on the brakes. I think I'll be going with the rear disc conversion that's for sure.

Spring choice in Oz
Hmm looks like I'll have to go with firmer springs too. 250 is too soft I want probably 280 on mine. 300 at the absolutely max.

Crash Damage
Behind the suspension assembly there is a plate that tends to rust out on the Z's it's at the bottom where the chassis is. If that's what your talking about then it's a normal problem in Z's. Pictures would be a good way for us to assess the damage and provide opinion. It could be one of the reasons for the panels not lining up correctly but sometimes it's more the way the panels are put on that causes bad alignment.(provided it's not too badly damaged). Anyway as Will says don't let it put you off we've all had a car with some form of hidden gremlin I think.

240Z in movies
Yeah I saw someone selling the Benson and Hedges 280zx in the trading post a couple of years back. I'd be interested in seeing some early 80's cricket footage with the ZX being given away .

I got my new beauty ('73 240Z)
Poor thing I hope it's not too badly damaged struturally otherwise might be best to fix the 72 and use the 73 as the parts car.
