I saw a rear bumper on ebay just this week. It looked very nice and rechromed but it was for a 60-72 240z might look funny having odd bumpers on a 280z.

What's the point when you can get a 75 Alfa Spyder that looks better .

4. Just an observation and maybe an obvious one at that. I think the people who bought these cars from the Nissan program were actually quite smart. You get a brand new or better than new Z sure you pay a premium but you also own a unique piece of history not only that though you also buy something that has and will hold it's value no other car sold as "new" can claim the same thing. FWIW if i was living in the US and had the cash a Nissan US restored Z would be excellent value for money .

I just uploaded a short snippet of my Z going through it's paces. I think it's in DIVX format since I made it over 2 years ago I'm not 100% sure. So if you can hear it but can't see it you'll need the Divx codec which is at www.divx.com quite a common codec so most should have it. :stupid:

9. Hi people i am after an A GRIND camshaft for a 240z prefer someone from Australia to have one. By that i mean the camshaft with A stamped on the end of it and generally were from the 240z type engine heads. If anyone in Australia has one please let me know.

I understand where you are coming from and can appreciate what your trying to get across to me. I have given these things alot of thought and I feel that my Z will end up being more of a weekend warrior fun car than a street car. I will eventually end up with another car that I can drive on a daily basis not sure what it will be yet maybe a stock 240z (Just can't see myself in other cars). I will discuss with my engine assistant ( I don't say builder because I'd like to have a big part in the process myself) about forged pistons if they are required and why etc.. Cheers.
12. Phred do you have much experience with lightening rockers? I ask because we are looking to save some weight by drilling out some weight in the rocker arms and then getting them all balanced. I was just curious if you had any thoughts or comments on this process?

CR could be as high as 11:1 it's what Costa my engine builder/expert has recommended i go with. I have to really sit down with him anyway to go over exactly what rod combo were going to use and what piston specs we should use. I'm not even sure if he's heard of using L14 rods before i know he's running L20 rods in his Z. Fuel will probably be Optimax/BP Ultimate/Synergy In my personal experience I've found BP Ultimate to be the best fuel in my Z atm however it all comes down to where they get there batch and each individual station not to mention a problem I had a shell once which has left a sour taste in my mouth ever since and I try to avoid them as much as possible.

We are going with forgies because I do plan to take her for a burn once in a while either on a track or AutoX I haven't got into competition yet mainly because I can't afford it on a Uni Student budget but we are also expecting to be able to rev her to 8000rpm or higher so forgies are probably a good idea. Dave: Yes good idea I believe Costa was going to organise a weekend away with the Z's somewhere but I haven't had a chance to speak to him about it yet soon soon. I'll also remind him of the dyno shoot out but from your 1/4 mile times i think you'll win but would be interesting to see the power curve that's for sure .

No problems and thanks for the correction. Yes I can understand your mentality, I'd love to build my motor tomorrow but I want to explore all my avenue's to build something that I believe will be the best all round NA motor for my 240z. After all I want it to be worth all the money and time I'm putting into it and I don't want to blow it up or have to pull it apart shortly after it's done just because I've had a change of mind or a better idea. VicZcar is getting new members all the time but we haven't had a proper meeting in a while hopefully we will soon. Anyway good to hear your interested all the same .

Okay so the measurements i quoted above are incorrect? L14 rods are actually 137mm as oppose to the L16 rods which are 133mm? Yes Japan is a good idea I checked yahoo auctions but nothing for early Z's was listed at all.

I'm after a set of L14 rods for my stroker combo but I also have a couple of questions? Listed below is a set of rod lengths quoted from member Alan Pugh in another thread I could not reply to that thread as it's part of the old classifieds system. My question is if the L16 rods are the same length as the L14 rods then why do people go for the L14 is it the type of piston you can connect to it? I think the L14 uses 8mm bolts and the L16 uses 9mm from what I've been reading can anyone clarify this? L24 L20A L16 rods should be easy to come by so im wondering what the advantage of a L14 rod would be. BTW I'll be using custom forged pistons in my application.

i had a similar problem in my 240z after I rebuilt my distributor i was in a rush and didn't set the timing with the gun and thought "she'll be alright" but it just didn't wanna rev and you could smell the burning smell of detonation . Next day I sorted her out and she drove better than she ever had. FWIW the condensor should say how many uF it's rated at as long as they are the same i don't see a problem. might pay to keep the old one spare in the glove box as you never know.
20. First off you've managed to get $15k but remember this isn't money from nowhere somewhere at some stage your paying this money back and it will probably cost you an extra $2k+ for the priveledge. I have 3 friends who recently bought 180's they are a not bad car and I can see why they chose them. However it won't be a sweet picnic one already has busted a gearbox the other broke something in his suspension putting it through it's paces on a driver training day we think it's a simple bushing but not sure yet till we get her on a hoist.(he drives it daily). Let's say you buy a 180sx now in 5 years time let's say you want to sell it? You might pay 13k for it now in 5 years you might loose 6k? Silvia's with Sr20's can be picked up for 6k these days. That's a huge loss when you couple it with your interest from your bank loan :dead: . Let's say instead you decide to sell the 260z 2+2 you could get up to 4-5k for it maybe? i'm not sure what condition it's in. So you've sold your 2+2 you have a little extra cash now you can find a well kept 2 seater 260z or 240z. For example recently in Unique cars this car was for sale http://www.viczcar.com/v-web/gallery/displayimage.php?album=topn&cat=-15&pos=0 it was a very tidy example I saw it at the nationals i think he was asking $11k. Now your under budget you can pay off a huge debt to the bank and you've got a bit of money for rego insurance and stamp duty. It might not go as quick as a 180sx at the moment but you can always work on that later. You've also bought something that will hold alot more value and insurance will probably go easier on you especially if your a car club member. The cops will be less likely to give you a hard time also. Now I'm not saying buy the car above but you get the idea of where i'm going. You've got a decent amount of cash which gives you the opportunity to buy something reasonably looked after that will hold more value than the 180. On the other hand if your just after a quick car with Turbo then the 180sx is probably the way to go. Just remember the Z is a good car to learn how to work on cars with doing the wrong thing on a more complicated 180sx could cost you an expensive turbo or EFI controller etc... Just my opinion from viewing what my mates have gone through and my own circumstances.
