  1. I can I've had my rears bottoming out for more than 6 months and been too broke to fix my suspension. I was gonna finish the stroker motor first but decided there is no point going fast if the suspension is stuffed. I've been working again got a new job and almost got enough cash together just gotta make the right decision I think both Koni's and Tokico's are good but the Koni's are a little bit more expensive don't come with springs but are probably a bit better in the long run if the car gets used on a race track. However I think you'd have to be a pretty hardcore racer to really notice a difference and I'm still a n00b . Besides by the time I "NEED" to change the shocks over I'll probably no longer be a uni student and working full time and it won't be as much money as it is to me now .
  2. Thanks for the information guys I think that helps a little. The Tokico's sound good 300 pound springs are probably border line the most I'd want in my Z anyway. A friend of mine and an experienced race car driver Len Brennan , has run his 260z in Targa tasmania(rally here in Australia on some of the toughest roads). He runs specially rebuilt standard shocks and 280 lbs springs in his car and he's keeping up with the likes of 911's of the same vintage and even quicker. I think half of that comes down to the fact he's an exceptional driver. Before i go too far off topic you can read about him at http://www.len-brennan.com.au/ http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16965&page=1&pp=15 MrDatto ordered some shocks from these guys and shipping was $90 US. So from xshocks.com $525 for springs and struts + ~$90 for shipping not sure if the springs will change it by much. I got a quote back from a place here in Melbourne:- " Gavin , price on Koni reds for the 240Z as follows . Fronts - $586pr , Rears - $586pr. These prices include GST " and they arn't even adjustable externally. :paranoid:

This is a good poll and Will I think you have a great sense of humor some of those poll options were hilarious. . However in comparing the 350z with the 240z I think it's as retro as the Z has come in years. The 280zx was different enough to the early cars to not be considered a Z by many however I am some what soft and do think the 2 seater S130 can look alright. The trademark 3 guages in the middle is still there and the sugar scoop headlights and rear lights are similar. However in between the Z31 and Z32 are nothing like an early Z and I must say IMHO the best Z cars are the early S30 and the Z33. Compare the 350z to the new RX8 or any other new sports car I think the 350z is quite a good looking car against other items in the market place. In Australia they are selling for $60k + for a base model which is quite good for a sports car in Australia :stupid: . If it weren't for the option to be able to get R32,33,34 skyline GTR's in Australia I'd probably buy a 350z if i was in the market for it. Will is correct though an old Z S30 will always command more attention than the new Z's and I think it's because it's a perfectly designed car and to try and beat that is very hard I mean Nissan are still trying .
  4. Okay i still have some questions I'd like to ask before I make my final decision. I almost got enough cash together for the Tokico's + shipping to down under and getting pretty excited at the prospect of having good suspension in the Z. However having spoken with a friend who owns a 240z with an L28 Turbo producing 400+ HP he seems to think the Tokico's arn't as good as Koni's. He was also saying you can't get parts for Tokico locally here in Aus which he's probably correct. However he is running 18" rims and coilovers in his car and I don't think 18" rims are a good idea on a Z myself. I'm wondering if the Illuminas can be regassed? The Koni's from what I've read can be pulled out and regassed every 5 years or so at minimal cost and there as good as new. Is it possible to do the same with the Tokico's? I've sent off emails to various people but nobody replies. I'm so confused because i get different opinions from different people some say the Tokico's are better others the Koni's. My car will be used as a street car auto x car, and occasionally a track car. I don't plan to run springs over 300lbs. I'll also be going with a coil over set up at some stage down the track so the illumina package with the progressive springs will be fine since it will be a street car for a while yet. The price difference between buying Tokico's in the states and Koni's here is a couple of hundred dollars not including the springs i get with the Tokico's. So as you can see i want to make the right decision first time :classic: . Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. BTW i'll probably be buying them from www.xshocks.com PS: sorry for long winded question. :stupid:

To the best of my knowledge that program ran in 98 Mr C.
  6. Yeah it's a good book and Carl thanks for the tip I'll be on the look out. Any idea what they cut down on in the reprint? As in what information it's lacking? Also as Carl Beck once said the information in that book is information that was around back in the 70's alot of things and techniques have improved these days and there are alot more things that can be done these days that was harder to do well back then. So in other words its not a definitive guide.
  7. nobody is pulling your leg it definately looks real to me. You can get L-series adjustable cam gears from Japan too although they don't look as lovely as this item. This one looks like it involves changing your whole cam drive assembly to a belt rather than a chain unless they just used a generic picture.

That's exactly what i would have though Will. If your in Australia you can't exactly get a P90A anyway well I've only ever seen one. I'd assume that anyone running it would have changed back from Hydraulic lifters. It should be stated that you do not HAVE to shave the P90 to achieve high compression it will all depend on your rod and crank combo for the stroker motor you can sometimes get + deck clearance. It all depends on the motor you are building an N42 can be ported and perform very well it all depends on what your are going for in your build.
  9. I like what Ron has done. I don't think the angled DATSUN on that hatch works well when you try and put it vertical on the rear spoiler. Maybe just the 240z part on the BRE tail i've seen that a few times. Personally I like the badges on the Z i find my Z looks kinda naked without them the PO took them off when the car was sprayed approx 12+ years back. I particularly like the bonnet badge myself and the side DATSUN badges on the front fenders i think they are the most important.
  10. Mike I would be more than happy to upload them. However 3 at a time is as you know quite tedious as the admin at VicZcar i was able to group upload them via ftp is there anyway I can do this here? Let me know and I'd be happy to upload the same pictures here. Cheers Gavin. PS: George you bet Vic 2007 , hoping to get my car on the track next time w00t
  11. Oh and Chris please don't gold plate it either!

if it was in Aus i'd have a look
  13. hopefully very soon.........
  14. Okay well i bought Unique Cars today April - May Edition. It featured the NDSOC run of Targa Tassie a little while ago before the Z Nationals. It says Gavin Strongsman's car is a balanced and blue printed block L28 with tripple webers producing 130kw at the rear wheels.
  15. Good point Bambi. I believe an earlier Z is more desirable over a 73 because of the features that make that year unique. Rear vented hatch, vertical defroster and the fact that early cars are rarer and more desirable. I have a 72 Z which is really the same as a 73 here and i consider all 240z's to be 240z's and the best of the breed overall. Now the 260z that's another story hahaha.

Most likely the reason for the RB motor conversion. You just can't get engine parts easily for it. In all honestly Z parts are easy to come by since there are so many places on the internet that you can buy new parts from. It's just the expense of it all if us Aussies lived in the US it would be very easy to fix up a Z and a hell of a lot cheaper. However i think resale value would be considerably less too .
  17. Oh btw the first lot were taken by Lynton he's a member at VicZcar.com and owns a 260z 2+2 you can tell because his were taken earlier in the day. Mine start around page 10 i think. Didn't wanna take all the credit.
  18. Probably about all i can tell you. I haven't spoken to him about what diff or gearbox he's using or internal parts in the motor either. if i find out anything else i'll let you know.
  19. I must be missing out where can i get drugs that let me live in la la land
  20. Hey George i was looking forward to meeting you and seeing your car. Have to say i was disappointed I was hoping you and Simon with the yellow 240ZT featured in Zoom would have been there . Oh well next time, I had bad luck with my Z and wasn't able to get it to show and shine day as it was sitting in the Hotel parking lot and not running. All good though got her running again and back to Melbourne thank god the alternative was to drive home get a trailer come back and bring her back home. I was not looking forward to that at all. All of that aside I still had a good weekend and really enjoyed meeting the people I did and taking some of the pictures. I have to hand it to the members like Alan T for example who take the pictures at many events I found it very tiring and difficult to get good shots with the sun shining at times also very exhausting work maybe also cause i was still tired from the long journey the day before. I'm waiting on a friend to compile the footage i took onto DVD so i can start to edit it and upload to the website. Some of it was of track day some was from show and shine.

Please do me a favour and keep your old distributor there is a good chance your new one will have the same problem it is a common problem with these distributors and there are ways of fabricating a much better system than the ball bearing cage. You should also look at possibly getting your distributor mapped to your cam so you don't have vacuum advance instead it's all mechanical.

Sorry to hear about your speakers but at least you will never make the same mistake again and lock your car from now on regardless. Does the car also have extra vibration to it when it happens? Check under your car do the bushes in your suspension look stuffed?

It's worth what someone will pay for it . Seriously it could be very hard to guage a value for such a car since they are rarely sold. It would also depend on if it was a running example or restoration job. I have read about owners having great trouble finding parts for these cars. Head gaskets have to be made up from scratch same with radiator hoses etc.. It's a big job Gee are you up for it? I read all this having been a NDSOC member myself and reading an article in their monthly mags. Umm i wasn't able to see the pictures is it just me or are they gone now? I tried to take some photos of one at the Datsun/Nissan Nationals here in Australia.
