Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
I have both early and late but I never knew the fasteners were OEM. I just thought someone had replaced the phillips head screws with the other type! I've got a few pairs of 40's and about 5 sets of 44's now.. (I have a problem) but I love these carbs. I forgot to mention above that with regard to the missing gaskets, I found the same problem with my SU carb rebuild kit, that the fuel filter screens, the crush washers and some gaskets were missing. The rebuild kit also didn't contain new floats, which I thought was odd if I'm honest. So it's not unusual that rebuild kits don't contain everything. I think in most cases the assumption is that you don't remove the jet block when rebuilding these carbs and just replace all the other gaskets and accelerator pump diaphragm? Who knows? I had all my carbs completely disassembled and I vapour blasted them to look like new! Photos here: https://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/11264-safari-brown-i-mean-gold-the-nsw-project/?do=findComment&comment=205897 Before: After: My SU's I rebuilt myself after having all fasteners plated and manifold + carb bodies vapour blasted. I should really order in the parts to finish my Mikuni rebuild's. Compared to working on SU's, I love the Mikuni's. They are easier in many ways to work with.

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Hey Kats, I noticed this also when I pulled mine apart, thought it was odd.. I found a vendor in the US that sells them however, as mine were so brittle when I removed them they broke into several pieces, they were more like plastic than rubber! https://www.ebay.com/itm/TOYOTA-2000-GT-SOLEX-MIKUNI-40-PHH-CARBURETOR-GASKET-KIT/291845981988?epid=1642106380&hash=item43f3604724:g:GuAAAOSw6n5XsK8M:rk:15:pf:0 eBay seller Upgrade Motoring has all the parts from what I can gather. https://www.ebay.com/usr/upgrademotoring eg: https://www.ebay.com/itm/MIKUNI-44PHH-CARB-GASKETS-REBUILD-KIT-W-PUMP-DIAPHRAGM-FIG-8-ORINGS-240Z-510-S30/142838570315?hash=item2141d79d4b:g:ct4AAOSw-RhaWVRn:rk:11:pf:0 This kit is good value. https://www.ebay.com/itm/MIKUNI-44PHH-CARB-GASKETS-REBUILD-KIT-X3-W-PUMP-DIAPHRAGM-FIG-8-ORING-240Z-SOLEX/143029235076?hash=item214d34ed84:g:WdoAAOSwzhZb~HGW:rk:29:pf:0 Or this European seller has them for $3 each. https://www.ebay.com/itm/SOLEX-40-PHH-MIKUNI-CARBURETOR-JET-CARRIERS-O-RING-8-SHAPED/292072596660?hash=item4400e224b4:g:iJwAAOSwJQdXDSoz:rk:22:pf:0

I was going to say that looks like an RB30 (SOHC) but then I remembered there is an RB20 SOHC as well as the DOHC version isn't there? I wonder why you wouldn't use the RB30 though, since the ports are likely to be larger?

Hey Kats, Found more photos of it. I've definitely seen it with the Kobe Seiko wheels, but can't find a photo of that!

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
My old landlord's friend hate a ute like that in Ireland, it was always so strange seeing it whilst living over there. To be honest Kats I don't know much about it or where it came from. The owner is a bit tight lipped (which is fair enough). It's currently up in Queesland, so not sure when I'll get to see it, but when I do I'll take a bunch of photos.

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Hi Kats, Well I'm back on the wild goose chase, hunting that wheel down. Got the contacts of the new owner and have sent them a message on Facebook. Let's hope I can secure it! Not sure if it can be repaired or not. Only 1 way to find out. Attached is a 710 Datsun Violet with the 4 cylinder 5.5j version of the Kobe Seiko wheels, similar the Z432 style. I also managed to find a photo of the Z432 Fairlady Z in Australia (white car), owned by the same person who owns the ex-George Fury Nissan Bluebird race car. In this photo it appears to be wearing Watanabe's. I'm trying to see if I can find more photos of it! It must be odd to see a car like this (quintessentially Japanese) on Australia streets for you? I know it was odd for me to see an Australian Holden Monaro at an Irish (Terenure) car show many years ago now. (2012). It was so familiar, but so out of place in rainy old Ireland.

Yes I've seen that video, to go slightly off topic for a second in China there is an expression Chabuduo! which means close enough … https://aeon.co/essays/what-chinese-corner-cutting-reveals-about-modernity

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Here is the damaged 4 cylinder version (no centre caps) / solid spoke. Like the other 2 I have already. So even if I got it, I'd still be 1 short of a complete set! https://photos.app.goo.gl/J7UHEXSJWeUtz6r66 You can see the chipped centre hub / area and hairline crack on the outer rim. It is now living a peace life of retirement as someone's garden hose reel. I'm unsure if I should push the previous owner for his friends details to try and rescue it from retirement or not. What do you think? Magnesium wheel repair is tricky.

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Hi Kats, I have 3 wheels in total, I got them from someone who bought second hand performance parts from Nissan (in the rally scene) back in the 90s. Originally there was another "wide" version also. 2 wide 2 narrow, but 1 of those had a crack and he decided to find out what a magnesium fire looked like and put 1 of the wheels on a bon fire. Sad I know, but he had no idea what these wheels really were and had stored them for years as a curiosity more than anything else. I got them off him for a very reasonable price and couldn't believe my luck to be honest. Not only that, but someone else had another 1 in the town / region of Ballarat (narrow version like the photo you attached) and was willing to sell it to me cheap ($100) but I found it difficult to get out that way to collect (seller wouldn't post) and in the end he gave it to a friend to use as a hose reel! *Sigh*. Same person sold a good set to 1 of the only Z432 owners in Australia not long ago. (Think he got them for a steal!) I will try and find photos of that car. The left over wheels was however also damaged / cracked and Alan wasn't sure how easy it could be repaired when I sent him photos. I will dig out pics again if I can. Alan informed me the narrow wheel was likely used on 4 cylinder rally cars that competed in the Southern Cross rally (perhaps the Datsun Violet SSS rally cars?) Which came through in the period, but the wide version was definitely left over from the works rally S30z's. I would love to use these wheels at some point, but not sure what to do about the odd pairing. Worst case scenario they will become garage ornaments, perhaps my Ikeda Bussan seats with look good next to them on display? (Currently out of the car for now)...The S30z enthusiasts will know what they represent. Reproductions can never match the originals.

For me the sad part is that they are Chinese knocks offs of unknown quality and standards.

In some cultures, how much you paid is viewed as a bragging right (a form of phallus waving so to speak). :). The thing that makes those Kobe Seiko wheels look unoriginal, is how pristine they are.. The originals often have a few gouges, marks, scuffs and battle scars. My collection for reference. https://photos.app.goo.gl/W2vyzLeEmcyrCq0T2

'70 near Portland # HLS3003543
It's definitely a later gauge fitted. Later ones have a slightly different style and earlier ones have the extra delimiter in the middle. Bad photo (from HS30 00150). Reverse layout as it's RHD or correct hand drive. ?

Early Canadian L24 for sale
Sorry didn't mean to cause confusion. I am not well versed on North American VIN vs engine No.s. I spend most of my time compiling HS30 data. But yes it would be an October 70 block. No problem, I still have a few local options to explore also!

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Love it Kats, I have only ever seen 1 or 2 in person. The last 1 I saw in Australia in person was in 1998. I was at School back then, and I managed to convince 2 of my best friends to jump over the fence and go down the road to look at this car in person. It had sadly been hit in the rear boot area (but fixable), and the original wheel was gone, but most of the interior was still there. It was in that "Gold" colour, but it had faded many times over. Wish we had camera phones back then. I did see the same car again in a shopping centre car park a few months later, but that was it. Would love to know what happened to it, hopefully it was saved.

Kats, are these the OEM fog lamps? Or what's left of them? Is that why you bought the bumper? Are you going to try and have them reproduced?

Rusty Fairlady for $28k?
I saw that Bring a Trailer car in San Francisco a few times when I visited and I told Yan I'd value it at $20,000 AUD a few years ago even though I could see rust poking out of it in the sills, rockers and doors. RHD cars are just far fewer in numbers and home market cars are just that bit rarer again. For the car in question in this thread it also has a few rare parts fitted and is a rare colour for the home market. Not to mention an early build. To me it's worth it all day long. But I often see value in things differently to others.
