That is the figure I had thought it would cost, perhaps he was talking about just the throttle boddies themselves I dunno.

  5. I take my statement back, I just remember spilling some of that beer named HAAGEN and remember the smell was awfull like bad cheese. I'll steer clear of the Asian beer , I can drink a VB if it's been almost frozen but I have to be really thirsty and at a BBQ. I like my Heinekins(spelt wrong) and my Stella's at the moment.

    Here they are
  7. Not yet rick my father was Irish so I've had a go at Guiness I like it but it's a bit deer. Apparently when i was a young lad i used to drink it behind my dads back. Never have a beer called HAAGEN it's meant to be German beer but it's brewed here and it taste's horrid. :tapemouth
  8. I just finished an advanced diploma in computer science going on to get a degree next 1.5 years . It can be tough working part time and studying and then having a g/f and trying to fix up the Z but I'm slowly working out how to fit it all together then to throw at cat in with the pigeons I'm gonna try going to the gym as a new years resolution. :classic:
  9. Well to for those who were wondering how I went with the clutch well here it is. Ok i called up a guy who i only met once but used to work with Zcars alot at about 10pm 2 days before new years eve. He told me to bring my old clutch over and flywheel plus pressure plate and he'd get it machined reco'd and back new years eve or the night before. Anyway he had offered to do that for me which i was suprised. He sent it off to be done and got it back new years eve. Apparently my old one was used in alot of 240z race cars well the pressure plate was but it turned out the old one was pretty stuffed. So I got another one with the pressure plate teeth hardened, and heavy duty clutch itself so more gripping force. Plus I had a lightened flywheel come with it. That used to be in a race car . I worked till 8:30 pm new years eve and was almost done but the clutch adjustment was all wrong and I couldn't work it out so I had to leave it and go away in a friends car. I tell you lifting a g/box three times into a car on your own is not fun. Anyway came back a couple of days later finished the job with the guy who helped me get the clutch all done before new years eve and now it works great no more rough take off. I also discovered that a driveshaft bolt had come off and the others were loose as a result no wonder the car felt so rough. All four are now on so I feel better about that and the car feels smoother . Nick the R31 flywheel I'm told has a different bolt pattern and wouldn't suit the Z without modification so that's why I didn't go for your set up don't know if you agree disagree with this? Anyway I'm happy it cost a bit mroe than I thought but it seems to be going well now and I have done 1 more thing I set out to achieve next is engine head change over or another engine build.
  10. I know of someone in melbourne who can build good motors let me know what your thinking of doing and I'll see if I can help.
  11. Hey dude did u see me about a week ago we drove right past each other on Hawthorn rd you were going to Blockbuster I think . I do wanna organise a get together soon with a few Z guys, I just replaced my clutch and flywheel and she's going better now. I just have to work out a time when everybody is free. Good to see your drinking some Stella there it's much better than our local beer.
  12. If it's any consilation I'm having a $h#& time under the car with my new clutch intallation process. If you read my other thread you'd see what I've been up to. But to give an accurate description I've been under a car which should probably be higher off the ground got dirty as hell so many times from , oil, grease etc.. clutch dust. Anyway on the topic of your problem, I don't think it's motorsports fault. You will need your catalytic in there and maybe it's time to get a new 1. As i understand it smog laws are pretty tight in the states and your old one is probably gutted out. And finally good luck!
  13. Ok well thanks for the enlightenment here's an update as to what's happening. THe clutch in there is a better than stock pressure plate and it should hold up pretty well. It's not a brass button clutch but my friend said it would be a prick on take off on the street. He says the existing clutch i have is pretty good well the pressure plate is anyway. Were getting the teeth in it replaced a new throw out bearing and he's giving me a lightened flywheel which involves changing the pulley to a 240z style one to balance them up. THe seal appears to be pretty good on the back of the engine but I was under the impression you need to remove the sump to pop it out, I will take a closer look tomorrow. I'm not 1 for doing it half arse worse comes to worse i'll bite the bullet and have to go away without it :disappoin . But i'm not gonna let that happen . I may have to aquire the pilot bearing seperate but i'm chasing those things up tomorrow while it's all being machined etc.. It will cost me more than i thought but at least it will be a good set up my friends car pulls low 13's and he managed to light up both rear wheels quite easily. (Not that I do that kinda thing myself). Then the hardest task is aligning the clutch up again, a friend of mine has the tool and im told an old driveshaft can be used also.:cheeky:
  14. getting it done will let you know what happens at this stage looks like a lightened flywheel and and some small goodies.

MSA sells a 6X9 replacement rear panel for the Z it was at $150 US and after shipping it and converting to Australian dollars it was too expensive for me but I decided to make my own. It turned out nearly the same it sure looks better than the cheap plastic original panel and it's very well hidden from prying eyes. The subwoofer box is mounted like prolaximus's unit but I only have 1 subby for now. THe stock alternator was holding up well until 2 days ago I had the heater on the lights and the stereo. Not so good the lights went off for a second. I have a ZX internally regulating alternator but it's fryed I might try reconditioning that and putting that in as someone else suggested. If I can I'll take a photo of it soon.
  18. Im a bit desperate to get my car back together, I've just pulled the Gbox removed the clutch from the flywheel to inspect the brand. It's a RPM clutch dunno if anyone outside Australia know's the brand it's by PBR I think. Anyway it held up pretty well till it got worn down and I was gonna directly replace it but I can get an entire kit of the same brand for $200 at trade discount. My problem is I have been told I will need to machine the flywheel and replace a bearing that's either in the flywheel or the actual end of the crank shaft. I've never seen this bearing before has anyone here? Also is this true do I need to machine it if I don't will it make the clutch wear alot quicker? I hope someone can machine it for me tomorrow before new years .
  19. Thanks for that won't know till i pull the head off at this stage. I've got the clutch out at the moment and with new years im in a bit of stink trying to get parts so I can go away and take the Z with me. Interesting I noticed a bolt missing from one of the driveshaft 4 bolts. No doubt why I was getting so much vibration. scary isn't it? I should have left it alone gone on holidays and had fun but no I had to pull the Gbox out :stupid: .
  20. Thanks alot Phred I think 83 was the only difference in the F54's from reading the How to Hot rod and modify your Nissan/Datsun OHC. That at least narrows it down a bit I'll give that a try see what happens. Gav,:classic:

  22. Ok so i wanna switch an engine head from one block to the block in the car currently. Currently I have an E88(240z) head and F54 combo, I'm switching the E88(unknown origin) head from a N42 block to the current block in my 240z the F54. I need to know which head gasket to use as it's close to new year and if I have to order a headgasket then I'll have no car. Can anyone tell me what is most likely the head gasket I will need for a F54 block and E88 combo. I don't think it would be the 83' block although I could be mistaken which is different again. Any help appreciated.
