Thanks Kats, I will send you a PM with access to the spreadsheet I'm collecting information in, where possible I've denoted Japanese market cars also, as it helps plug gaps in HS30 number sequences. I've shared it with Alan previously also, it's a bit of a pet project of mine. The mount is custom yes, but I don't have any photos of the original transmission mount. Next time I am with the car (it's in Melbourne, not Sydney with me) I will try and take a photo for you, it's definitely unique and would suit the 71 gearbox. When I bought my 72 240z (HS30 10552) it had the L28 installed with 240K gearbox, I later went back to the previous owners house to collect the original L24 engine, and the owner asked if I wanted the 71A gearbox - I said no.. Regretfully I should have taken it, but didn't think it was used in my car, because at the time I thought it was only in early 70 models. (I learnt later about the box being used till late 71).

Hey Kats, My 71 240z (HS30 01415) is an automatic (factory) in 904 white with blue interior, I was contemplating going to a 71A manual gearbox. Since I prefer sports cars with manual gearboxes. But at least in the short term plan to keep the automatic. I am not sure what condition the auto box is in however. I have a spare jatco auto box as a spare, just in case. I don't think there was many automatic's in 1971 in Australia. What a lovely example 240ZG, 110 red is the colour of my first 240z (which was a 73 240z), but it had been repainted a "darker" red colour 110 red looks almost orange. However the engine bay remained 110 red. It's quite a rare colour for HS30's in general. My 73 had a white interior - which is not common these days, many owners have changed to black sadly. It was hard to keep clean I guess. I have a video from around the year 2000 where I was messing around with the car, I was not able to drive it on my own yet because I was still a "learner driver" hence the yellow L up in the windscreen and I was only 17, about to turn 18 (you can drive on your own once 18). You'll have to forgive my gelled hair and baggy pants (it was of the era I guess). I haven't shared it earlier as I wanted to edit it, but I guess I will live with it and all it's embarrassment as is :). The vinyl roof is indeed rare, funny I recall my step dad and I went to look at a Datsun 260z 2+2 which was a maroon red colour and had a black vinyl roof. It was a good car, but I was put off by the vinyl roof. Would love to find a car like that now! PS: Love the S54B Prince Skyline GT-B in the background of those photos. How do you know how many cars were 71A with the new console? I have been collecting data on HS30's, but have never been able to determine exactly when the change over from HS30 01XXXX to HS30 10XXX occurs. I'm attaching a screenshot from my sheet of numbers, I can share the sheet with you via PM if you think it would be useful? As you can see the highest no. I have is HS30 01973 before jumping to HS30 10052 - which was a Fairlady 240Z-L - owned by a member here. Since I don't know when the exact change over is, it's hard to know exactly how many of each type there is. My data is collected based on cars I've seen for sale, or around the Internet, so basically documenting what's left as accurately as I can. Nissan Australia's records were lost in a big office move many years ago. Sadly.. Yes I'd imagine they are LHD examples for Europe. As you probably know the US market (HLS30's) got 4 speeds only. When we did my gearbox swap on my 72 240z (HS30 10552) my friend told me that the gearbox cross member was really unique - he had never seen 1 like it before. We still have it as a spare as we fabricated a unique mount for the 71B/C hybrid box. Photo here.

I agree I love the look of the 71a box and I love the straight gearstick and how it sits in early S30Z's. Alan actually convinced me to go back to the 71A box in HS30 00150 and I just think it's nice to go back to the original feel and form of the car. There is Lou Mondello here in Australia (Melbourne) who specialises in the Fairlady Roadsters and as you know they had the same 71A box but different bellhousing. He can apparently rebuild them also and has access to parts.

Hi Kats, I will have to check my factory parts manual for HS30's (UA - Australian Market) to see if they list ratios along with part no.s but in the interim I have some press releases here. https://goo.gl/photos/yGt15kkjKMxXx6Sb8 72 + 73 model years had the following ratios with 71B box. https://photos.app.goo.gl/zB8zJzHE5MTlPffw2 70-71 model years had the following with 71A box. https://photos.app.goo.gl/f6rwh6bxr9LKFumw1 Zoom in to see them. Or I listed below. 73 model - 71B box 1st = 2.906:1 2nd = 1.902:1 3rd = 1.308:1 4th = 1.000:1 5th = 0.864:1 Diff ratio = 3.9:1 Early 240z 71A box 1st = 2.957:1 2nd = 1.858:1 3rd = 1.311:1 4th = 1.000:1 5th = 0.852:1 Diff ratio = 3.9:1 74 260z 2 seater (71B) 1st = 2.905 2nd = 1.902 3rd = 1.308 4th = 1.000 5th = 0.864 Discussion here: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/5575-260z-gearbox-ratios-what-are-they/ I have a 71b/C hybrid box in mine, with the closer ratio 260z 2 seater box gears for the first 4 gears and the taller 5th gear with reverse lockout to prevent shifting into reverse. We used the 71B/C hybrid box because my car is HS30 10552 - which had a 71A 5 speed from factory so the shifter hole is further back and instead of bending the gear stick back to fit, we used this combination so that the shifter would come out in the stock position. Given your cars originality, I'd be inclined to stick with the original box. I wanted to go back to a 71A box in my 72 240z HS30 10552 but I already have 3 other 240z's that will receive this style box. So decided against it for now. Previously I had the 280zx/240K gearbox with the wider gap between 2nd and 3rd gears, synchro's were well worn, so it drives night and day different now. I also fitted Triple 44's at the same time, so it's hard to say which I like better. The new gearbox or the response of Triples. Both have transformed my L28.

I know what you mean, but part of me is inspired to keep the "original look" cars like this Mazda R100 sold for over $120k AUD. In part because of it's unrestored nature. http://musclecarsales.com.au/?cars=unrestored-1971-mazda-r100 However I am also a fan of "restored", see here. https://goo.gl/photos/2CqZgy8DV7GjTfqr7

Another option but won't have "patina". https://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-240z-1970-73-Door-Panel-Skins-NEW-Authentic-Reproduction-Choose-Color/122810867534?fits=Model%3A240Z&hash=item1c98191f4e:g:T-gAAOSw3mpXEtfg&vxp=mtr

Thanks for the suggestions, there is a blue vinyl paint available locally here. http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/Dupli-Color-Aerosol-Paint-Vinyl-Fabric-Paint-Blue-311g/324090 It's worth testing on a sample piece and comparing how close to original it is. It might work ok for the plastics anyhow, but maybe not the diamond vinyl or door cards so much. Otherwise I'll get a paint match done and see if a local company can mix something up.
  8. Gav240z replied to dhoneycutt's post in a topic in For Sale
Yes that's another option, although the bucket has some other issues.
  9. Gav240z replied to dhoneycutt's post in a topic in For Sale
RE: Difficult to reproduce, that is true. However there was a lot of aftermarket panels for these cars made in the 80s and 90s in Taiwan and often had fitment issues. I've seen bonnets, front guards etc.. and I wouldn't be surprised if they did sugar scoops too! Tabco and the like are only new in terms of reproduction sections. I'll make an offer based on the fact that I am not sure if they are NOS or not and postage cost to get them to Australia eventually... Feel free to turn it down if it's not what you had in mind. I was ideally looking for a 904 white painted headlight bucket with older paint on it (so it doesn't look out of place). I'm trying to preserve the patina on my car, rather than repaint it but unfortunately someone let it sit outdoors a bit long with presumably chipped paint and this has happened.

Yes would love that, the old plastics get very brittle - especially after UV exposure so if I find other colours (that are less brittle) I can always dye them, same with the door card. I've had trouble finding SEM products in Australia before, but please do send along any instructions and would love to see photos of your results!
  11. Gav240z replied to dhoneycutt's post in a topic in For Sale
Oh I see, are they Nissan NOS or reproductions? Usually Nissan NOS has part no's on them (stickers or a painted on part no.) can you PM me a price you're chasing for the pair?

I've sourced a few sets from Japan, but getting hard to find a set of 44's for under $2,000 USD regardless of condition. Manifold is easy, just go with the Harada or Kameari unless absolutely original is a must, then you can probably find an original Nissan part, just takes a bit longer.

How hard is it to get a set of those Central 20 wheels? They seem even more rare than the Kobe Seiko wheels?

Hi Folks, I'm looking for a used blue interior parts to suit my 71 240z. I don't want to buy new as it will look out of place with my survivor car look (I'm going for). Searching for: 1. Passenger door card (no speaker holes please). 2. Passenger seat covers (can have minor wear and tear), hopefully not too faded? Possibly interested in driver side also (don't let photo below confuse you, your passenger side seat is my drivers side seat). I'm hoping that someone has a blue interior where the passenger side (RH side) has seen little use compared to drivers side (LH side) but replaced both covers at the same time. 3. Rear 1/4 plastics, mine have gone a greenish colour due to UV exposure. If your ones are in better shape let me know? Attached photo of faded "greenish" plastics, I know these can probably be re-dyed and will explore that option too.

What colour are the headlight buckets and in what shape are they (rusty?).. I see you have a white car, so wondering if they are white?

Thanks yeah I'm looking for an L24 out of a September / October built 1970 240z. The block should have an E31 casting (not just the head).

I bought several AM radio faceplates from Steve, very happy with his products! Packaged very nicely and quality is great.

I'll give an enthusiastic nod to reproduction of early items. As someone with 3 early-ish cars. I am always happy to see some of this stuff being made. Thanks Steve! PS: I always recommend your site to people looking for pieces you sell.
  19. These tend to be quite a bit cheaper than the early ones. Maybe $150-$200 in working shape.

    Ok PM sent with offer.

I'm eager if you can ship them to a Warehouse in Compton LA - not too far from you. Any chance you could show a few more photos of all 4 (to make sure they are not damaged) and can you let me know what kind of price you're seeking?

Hi Kats, I found 2 more photos of the boot after it was removed from the car. Perhaps it's not OEM as you say and aftermarket? I always thought it was original but now I think you may be correct?
  24. Gav240z replied to kats's post in a topic in 432 & 432-R
Hi Kats, that photo is from HS30 00004, I have not seen the grommet top part of the boot on an AU market car. I have to say it's also my favorite style. I have attached a photo of the boot from HS30 00150 which I assumed was just missing the grommet, but now that I see the photo of HS30 00004's in more detail I'm inclined to think maybe it never came with that grommet?

Any chance you could provide a ballpark price of what you're hoping to get for these?
