See this post http://www.classicZcars.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=7751&goto=newpost My dual exhaust system makes my Z the loudest I've ever heard coming in at 120DB to give you an idea on that take Mick's 95.8 db and for every 3 db you double the sound intensity. It's great if your young and stupid like me . No but seriously it makes my car feel like a race car and the Carpark attendants hate it. Bad things about it being this way is that it attracts attention from everyone young guy with a 4cylinder car. I haven't had any trouble from the boys in blue but I like to think I'm a sensible driver and only flaunt it when it's for my amusement not for others. One day I'll get caught but I have an interchangeable muffler that will make it way under legal limit. Cheers. And if you want the to go with 2 pipes do it they sound great and the Works style down the middle looks fantastic.

  4. If your talking about the one that goes from the engine block and to the carbies it's there because u will end up making the inside of your engine clogged up with sluggy oil. Well so I believe.

Hi Trex I did not install the exhaust system it was definately a custom job done by the previous owner. I remember seeing the ad for the car and seeing dual exhaust and wondering if it was 1 on 1 side and 1 on the other. I didn't know it would be the Works style till i saw it and me and PO both love it. I will try get some pictures soon I should really buy a digital camera. The setup is so that from the extractors you have two pipes 1 for 123 cylinders and the other for 456. It only has 2 resonators 1 on each pipe no muffler, for roadworthy condition I had to make it quiet and I got it custom made so that just before the diff there is a point where I can change the end of the muffler to single pipe and have it bolt up to the original position. This is to keep law enforcement off my back if I ever have to get it tested. Loud hell yeah!!! I had it measured at 120DB at 4200rpm. But I luv it and it's probably the loudest car in melbourne with an exhaust system on it. :classic:
  6. For those who put up with the exhaust fumes in their Z here's some incentive to fix those gaskets and rubbers and replace those rubber bungs. Found this at the following website. http://sites.ninemsn.com.au/minisite/testaustralia/drivingbelieve.asp TRAFFIC POLLUTION DAMAGES MEN'S SPERM Traffic pollution damages sperm and may reduce fertility in young and middle-aged men, reveals an Italian study of motorway tollgate attendants. The attendants, who spend six hours a day sitting in a roadside booth, showed poorer sperm quality than men of the same age living in the same area but not exposed to the same level of exhaust fumes. Researchers blamed nitrogen oxides and lead for the adverse effects. (source: NewScientist.com news service)

The Vacumm advance hose to the distributor is important for acceleration and prevention of pinging. The heater hoses through the intake manifold help warm the car at start up and the quicker an engine warms up the longer it lasts. However it's not overly important. :classic:

But that place in Australia does a very good job. It will looks as good as new and they look for people from the US as customers. :classic:

I believe it wasn't just the 432's it was the Fairlady Zg's with the one above the other in the picture you showed. The worx rally cars had dual exhausts down the middle of the car. My car has the exact same thing I've gotta get some photo's of it to show. :classic:
  10. BTW TexasZ I forgive you . I understand Uni has put me under alot of stress comming up to midway and all my assignments and tests are at once. I find playing online 3d shooters is a good way to let some frustration out. Nothing like putting a few bullets in an opponent. :classic:
  11. Ben that's great I'm going to copy that and save it for future reference. BTW are the Porsche Style Synchro's any good? Some people were saying they prefer them I ask because my geabox's synchro's are worn. Any ideas about good places to get replacement Gbox parts my local Z yard says u can't buy things new for them like bearings and he has to tear apart another to build mine. I'm not convinced this is a good idea although at $700 it's what I'd expect. Any suggests etc.. :classic:

Don't spose it has the plastic map reader light surrounding? I need the black surrounding for the map reader light in my Z uncracked. If you have one I'd be willing to pay good money for it :classic:

Are you crazy fix it up you have hardly any rust. Looks like a great car better to fix the problems with the one you know then to buy another and find hidden problems. I'm only going by pics but from those she looks very good.:classic: as a potential project.
  15. It's a subjective question because we don't know if yours has been swapped at some stage or not. In Aus for example our 240z's had the 3.9 R180 Diff. The 5 speed came in all Z's here we didn't get 4 speeds. Sorry I can't help I don't know us spec cars.
  16. You got a great price just think of how much you would spent to fix up a 240z that was a total wreck and putting OEM parts on it? Not to mention rust repair. I wish I could buy a factory refreshed 240z from Nissan:classic: . Very nice Z hang on to it, it will be worth alot more later. As everyone is saying there only getting more expensive. Oh and keep the auto in the garage just incase. I've learnt never throw anything away. :classic:

Hey Brett I'd love one and thanks for letting me know however I have a few other expenditures for the car at the moment and although I'd love one it wouldn't be sensible to install it when it's not broken if you follow me. However if I get those things done I have to make a check list and I manage to get some cash together I'd be very interested a couple of questions though. Do you know roughly how much he wants for one? Is there any fabrication needed to fit one? Thanks.:classic:

All engines should weigh the same amount. The l28 is just a bored and stroked version of the L24 as far as I know. Any difference would be very minimal however the 260z's had alot more accessories in the engine bay for AIR con etc... Unless your building a race car you shouldn't really wanna strip the car's weight to much if you ask me. It's probably cheaper to increase horsepower than to try lighten the car and get the same results. Depends on what u wanna do with the car. Just my opinion.:classic:
  21. THat's not always true infact some Z's in OZ go for good prices. I've seen 260z 2+2's sell for 11k + and some 240z's have gone for 20k+. Just thought I should mention. Also Z's over in the US are almost as common as Old Holden's here. We didn't get nearly as much Z's here and finding a good one is a tough job. If I were to be buying a Z I'd get a rusted one strip it down to the shell and restore ground up. Sure alot of work but at least you know there's no rust and the chassis will be straight etc... It's rare to find a 240z for less than 2k these days regardless of condition. I have seen one that I might look at with a friend I can't own 2 cars at the moment. If your interested it's a bit rusty the owner says and has a sunroof (another con) but I can give you the details. :classic:

Hi guys good topic here. I bought a Unisyn recently and haven't had a chance to use it but I was browsing the Ztherapy site and curious about the SM needles they have. My current engine setup consists of the following:- F54 Block E88 Head (With Larger ZX Valves). Mild Cam. Extractors Etc.. Electronic Dizzy. I get pinging on WIde Open throttle or when i give it a bit of stick depending on a few things and I think the car runs better if the choke is out for higher rev driving. I was planning on gettin her on the Dyno and having it adjusted properly by an expert but do you think that the SM needles will work provided I tune with the Unisyn? I haven't got a colortune kit and have no idea where to get one, I guess I'll ask around for that. Any help appreciated. Also can anyone stand by Ztherapy there info is impressive but I'm not sure if my carbs need to be rebuilt or not. THey seem ok apart from the issue mentioned above. Thanks.
