I wish they would indicate in the catalogs and online what was original and what wasn't.

Aluminum Polish
on my wheels I did light wet sanding with 1500 grit then 2000 grit paper. Then switched to eagle1 polish on a Mothers powerball mini until it shreaded. Losing hope at that point I switched to Mothers Billet polish: http://www.mothers.com/02_products/05106.html and a couple drill mounted buffers from the local Harbor Freight: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=34743 http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?itemnumber=65001 on the other 2 wheels I've done so far I did more sanding, even starting with 600 paper, since as they said above the polish won't take out much of an imperfection. With the finer grit papers I find it easy for it to gunk up with stuff and actually leave some pretty bad scratches if I don't keep the water flowing. that is when the finish came alive

Oregon Introduces Bill to Prohibit Sale of Aftermarket Parts
But it is government so they can't do the easy fix. They have to do the one that costs the most, creates the most bureaucracy and give them the largest feeling of power.

New Front 1971 240 Z Bumper
"Also note that the '73 240Z and the 260Z have different bumper bracket mounts than the '72 and earlier bumpers, as well as a slightly different curved shape to work with the rubber packing pieces that go between the bumper and the fenders on each side. " Anyone have good side by side pictures of the differences? My parts car has a front bumper that was rechromed and looks great except that it was bumped and sprung so it looks like the one in the first picture.

a bit of cleanup on the wheels
it was actually a picture of your car on here that inspired me to clean up the wheels. I kept looking at it then at my wheels going "can they really look that good?" Good eye on the size. For some reason I had thought mine were 6".

a bit of cleanup on the wheels
this stuff works pretty well: it was more than I'd usually pay for mag polish but worth it. I was actually going to just leave these wheels on my parts car when it eventually gets hauled away because I thought they were too far gone. After searching and not finding any 15" wheels that I liked enough to spend the money on I decided to try cleaning these up and just go with different 14" ones. I know I got the polish on the tires but those aren't staying on the wheels. I plan to go with bridgestone RE960AS

70´ 240Z burn-out just for fun
Google's free picassa picasa.google.com (and others I'm sure) does a good job of cutting down video clips.

240z distributor on a 280ZX
I know it is common to put the newer setups on the 240 but I know a guy with a ZX that isn't getting spark and he just doesn't have the money to get it diagnosed or replace parts on it right now. And I have a spare coil/resistor/distributor setup. Does anyone know if it is just a matter of bolting it up and connecting a power wire that is hot when the key is on?

Am I just paranoid??
I do admit wanting to jump up and down on the hoods of cars where I've parked 10 spots from any other car only to come out and find them right next to me with their car hugging the line.
-
Can anybody beat this?
That looks like farmboy engineering.

Am I just paranoid??
I've thought about that before and figured it would be more frustrating to catch someone since unless you are going to take them to small claims court and then hope to get them to actually pay any judgement that you receive there isn't any plus to it. I don't think there is any chance of getting a police report on it so unless you are into vigilantly revenge there is no winning that one. Although I admit to wondering if the leather punch on my pocket knife would go through a the sheet metal on a car door. Although I'm sure that even though I wouldn't get any justice for their damage the universe would find someway to punish me for my revenge.

Am I just paranoid??
So far my worst was when I had parked out near the end of the lot and came out the door and didn't see the Z. I was looking at the alarm remote that hadn't paged me and then back at the parking lot and then back to the remote. Wondering how they got past the paging alarm with it's own battery backup, the club, the kill switch, the fancy door locks... Walked a few more steps and saw that the huge sedan that had parked 4 spots away was completely blocking the view of my car. That was a heart stopper. It does make it hard to relax and enjoy what I am doing. I'm usually a little twitchy while it is out of sight. I don't know how people with the really nice ones do it. I thought about buying one of those GPS tracking setups but the monthly fees are a bit high for something that I'd hope to never use. I don't need to be able to track it any time except for if it is gone. I thought about buying and installing one and then if the activation could be done fast enough only do that step once the car is missing. For years my old white Z was our only car so there was no choice but to park it in places I wasn't thrilled with and leave it there for hours at a time. But the orange one is in much better shape so it makes me worry a lot more. I did like having the electric fuel pump on the white one though. It made for a nice 'kill' feature that would let them start the car and think they were getting away. Although several times that I forgot about it I ended up with the car dieing just as I pulled out into the road. If a new car gets taken the insurance will do a good job of getting an identical car in most cases. Just trying to find another 'similar condition' Z would be a nightmare, let alone the fight with insurance to cover more than a couple thousand of the price. www.geocities.com/z-car

300zx commercial
The writeup I read said it was pulled after one airing because it was thought to promote street racing. Now some the ads practically come out and say that the cars will be great for street racing.

Parts Store Fun
I've gotten to where I generally just tell them I have a Nissan 240Z, to get them started looking in the right area of the catalog. Although I do have to admit being partial to the online places that have a separate section for Datsun At the better parts place in town that actually employees adults I'm able to tell them I need something for a Datsun 240Z without it confusing them though.

Auto Parts supplier to be careful dealing with
is that the same company that is commented on here: http://www.amazon.com/Auto-Parts-Warehouse/dp/B0002XF3GG/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top and here: http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/0/375/RipOff0375283.htm There are more than a few online parts places with professional looking sites that aren't on the up-and-up. I ordered shocks for my truck from one a couple years ago and they said they were in stock. Days passed and I was guaranteed that the shocks were on their way. Turns out weeks later and after multiple emails, that the shocks were discontinued and they didn't have any. Much like the above listing I'm sure they didn't stock anything and just tell everyone that the parts are all instock. I didn't learn my lesson and found a different site, used their online help to verify that they did still have two of them available. After I placed the order the confirmation had the other companys name on it. Turns out they had multiple sites with different names and layouts all going back to the same place. I went back on to the live help to have them cancel the order. They said they couldn't do it as the order was already in process at their 'warehouse' and I was going to get the shocks. A few days later I get the email saying once again that the shocks had been discontinued and my order was cancelled. The worst thing for me with places like this is that I make my living selling online and they make people hesitant to buy from legit places.

Check out this all original '73 on fleaBay
The show was in Chico, CA. It was probably a bit before that as I don't think I'd had my white Z for more than a couple of years when we wandered by the show. I think I got the white Z around '92. And was given a copy of his book by a local body shop that we were having some work done on a company truck. So it was pretty cool to see the car that I had read about.
