  1. You're welcome, Jim! The pictures really don't do the new shift knobs justice. Captain Obvious mentioned the shift map, comparing the shift map of the original knob in a couple of the pictures to reproduction shift maps, but it's no big deal, it's close enough for me and the knob itself is much better quality then the original.
  2. My second 240Z walnut shift knob arrived today and it is beautiful! This is the second shift knob that I have purchased this month, both from the same seller on eBay. The first one was a 5-speed shift knob and I liked it so much that I ordered a second one, a 4-speed walnut shift knob. Both shift knobs are for my two '71 240Z projects. They are the same size and shape as the original 240Z wood shift knobs, but are a much better quality. Max is great to work with and I highly recommend him and his high-quality walnut shift knobs. I took some pictures of the 2 new knobs along with my original, badly-faded and peeling plastic chrome ring on the bottom shift knob. Here's the eBay link if you are interested: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-240Z-260Z-280Z-1970-78-reproduction-4-or-5-Speed-Shift-Knob-Walnut/132304718542?hash=item1ecdf9cace:g:dn4AAOSwHPNbFAqj:rk:4:pf:0
  3. @wrecked2001 Tell us more about this Series I 240Z. Is it for sale? If so, are you looking to purchase the car yourself? If you're not, how much is the seller asking for the car? Please let us know, as we are all very interested.

  5. Good progress and looks to be a solid car. Thanks for posting the pics!
  6. Found this snap shot of myself when I was in college (circa 1980) standing next to my very first 240Z #HLS30-59523. The car was repainted black from its original 115 Blue Metallic by the previous owner, the body shop manager of a Datsun Dealership. Had the car for about 3 years before I sold it. Not sure of the car's whereabouts today.
  7. Ugly Zs have been covered a few times before over the years. Here's a good thread from a couple years ago called "Zs Only a Mother Could Love":
  8. The underside looks solid - typical SoCal 240Z! The eBay listing from October didn't show any pictures of the underside.
  9. Hiyabrad, Earlier today on the "HLS30-00304 Up for Auction on eBay" thread that Zed Head posted a link to in post #4 of this thread you said: "I bought #304!" My response was: " Congratulations, Hiyabrad! We were all wondering what happened since the eBay link (in the first post of this thread) showed that the car didn't sell back in October. I assume that the seller also had it up for sale locally and that's how you bought it. Please let us know what you plan to do with the car when you get a chance, we are all very interested." Just curious, do you plan to have #304 restored back to its original 904 Blue paint color?
  10. Congratulations, Hiyabrad! We were all wondering what happened since the eBay link (in the first post of this thread) showed that the car didn't sell back in October. I assume that the seller also had it up for sale locally and that's how you bought it. Please let us know what you plan to do with the car when you get a chance, we are all very interested.
  11. Cool, an early '72 model with an 11/71 build date with lots of good parts. The early '72 models have the non-retractable seat belts, blank plastic plug in the fuse box cover where the safety belt light goes starting in 1/72 and the vertical defroster lines in the rear hatch glass - tough to find nowadays. I'm surprised that the rear hatch glass did not break!
  12. Yes, that could very well be. Looks to be a pretty solid car. The automatic transmission can be changed out to a 4 or 5-speed. Price looks to be low for the car's condition.
  13. Only $11,300.00 for this '72 new eBay listing and here's the link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1972-Datsun-Z-Series/123623517243?hash=item1cc8892c3b:g:5s0AAOSwZddb48NU:rk:4:pf:0&vxp=mtr
  14. Here's a '73 custom 240Z that sold for $48,400.00 (includes buyer commission) in late September 2018 at the Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas Auction: https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/1973-DATSUN-240Z-CUSTOM-COUPE-222608
  15. Jayhawk, My first 240Z I bought when I was in college. It was a '72 with a build date of 12/71. At some point, one of the prior owners installed an L26 engine with flat tops. It was actually a pretty quick car, but it had some vapor lock issues during the summer months. I had the car for about 3 years before I sold it. The other 240Zs that I've owned since then all had round tops and I only experienced a couple of summer vapor locking incidents. My past personal experience plus all the discussion in the Z community and on this website ( member since 2004) has led me to believe that flat tops are inferior to the round tops.
  16. True Black Pearl with Paint Code 638 that needs a lot of work. At $1,000.00 and listing ends soon on eBay. Here's the link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1978-Datsun-Z-Series-BLACK-PEARL-EDITION/163499977529?hash=item26115bab39:g:q7kAAOSwNJJcQJdW:rk:22:pf:0&vxp=mtr
  17. Agreed on the carbs - the seller should have made note of the round tops, which is actually a positive and not a negative. Looking at the front bumper, you're right - it doesn't look right. Could that be just the reflection on the bumper that gives the that appearance?
  18. That's great that you attended the auction, and good picture of the resto-mod 240Z! I watched quite a bit of the auction the last few days and you're right - there was an unbelievable number of resto-mods of different makes and models that sold for high dollars.
  19. Yes, a Lot of Money! The other 2 cars weren't chopped liver with the '71 240Z (with the incorrect Z wheel covers) going for $55,000.00 and the '73 240Z going for $40,700.00, both with the buyer commissions included. As Charles mentioned earlier, in the past, the more original 240Zs have sold for the higher prices, but the quality-built resto-mods seem to be the trend right now.
  20. At $67,100 including the buyer commission, that is the highest amount that I have ever seen for a resto-mod 240Z.
  21. I agree with you, Charles. I was also surprised with the amount the Modified LS car brought. Over the last couple of years, 240Zs are finally getting some respect at B.J.

  23. Located in Los Angeles. Seller also states in the listing that the car has its original paint. Here's the link: https://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/cto/d/los-angeles-1970-datsun-240z-4speed/6788751471.html
