  1. I agree with you, Dave. If the seller had taken the time to do the paint correclty, it probably would have met the reserve and sold. Paint is really important when it comes to the value of classic cars. Too many Z owners take short cuts and do half-assed paint jobs on their cars because they are too cheap to do it right the way. Quality body work and a quality paint job makes a significant difference in the value.

  3. I recently watched this episode of Garage Squad on the Velocity Channel as well. Hey, let's put things in perspective guys: I'm just glad to see a 240Z featured on one of these shows. They almost always feature American cars, so this was very refreshing. On top of that, it was put in a positive light and nothing negative like when George Barris and a couple of other American car bigots did on whatever name that awful show was a couple of years ago. As Larry B. mentioned, the aftermarket changes they made to HLS30-00089 can easily be brought back to stock. By the way, how about the toilet roll oil filter!
  4. Yes, an early 260Z with the smaller bumpers, not the "park bench" bumpers of the later 260Zs and 280Zs.
  5. I agree, $28k seems pretty high for this car. I would say high teens at best, but it's hard to tell from the pictures. For that kind of money, the body and paint would need to be in almost flawless condition and it would have to check out mechanically without any issues.
  6. I just got off the phone with Dave the owner, a very nice guy. The car's original color was green and it was originally purchased in California. Dave has owned the car for 34 years and it has always been garaged since he has owned it. He bought the Z locally from a man in the Syracuse area who drove the car in a couple of winters. Dave had the rust cut out around the rear wheel wells and the Tabco metal rear wheel arches welded-in, bondo applied and painted in the 2 areas. The car has its original matching number engine and it runs well and does not burn oil. Original clear rear hatch glass, rebuilt original transmission. Hand throttle cable and lever is missing.

  11. HLS30-00486 located in Hayward, CA sold for $6,550.00 with 5 bids. Based on the pictures, I think this was a very good deal for a '69 production car. It appears to be pretty solid with not much rust. Whey are so many of these remaining '69 production cars green?
  12. Perhaps it was Car Crazy? Barry Meguiar goes all over the world and that sounds like something that he would cover on his show. Car Crazy moved from the Speed Channel to Velocity after the channel became Fox Sports 1.
  13. Very cool! Thanks for the all the great information, Alan. Just curious, how many of the approximately 25 original PS30-SB Fairlady Z432-R cars are known to exist today? Also, any idea of what the approximate market values of a nice un-restored car and a restored car would be in today's market?
  14. Looks like Fred replaced the rear center piece with a '73 rear piece and reused the original '70 thru '72 rear bumper guards. As Dr. 240Z mentioned, he had to install the guards upside down in order to accommodate the exhaust pipe. I would assume that this was done about the same time Fred's wife backed into the car and he had to replace the hood, fender and the front bumper with parts from a '73 240Z. Great story on this car! The interior is very original and I like the car's 919 Yellow paint under the silver respray and hope that whoever buys it restores it to the original color. However, whoever buys this car is going to have to invest a substantial amount of money. With the rust issues underneath and other areas, the prior front end damage (possible in the rear as well) and the fact that it hasn't been started for over 25 years, would have me very concerned. It really depends on what you would have to pay for the car. Personally, I wouldn't spend more than $3k including transportation.

  16. I had my clock done by Ron at Zclocks about two and a half years ago and it looks like new and is still running strong! I highly recommend!
  17. I love the '70 and '71 blue on blue 240Zs, especially the Series I cars. However, that car in Idaho looks like it's going to take a lot to get her restored. I like that fact that it's a '70, which makes the car even more desirable, but unless it has a very low VIN, say a '69 production car, there's just way too much rust for me. GeoJoe's Series I blue on blue car is from California with very little rust, which makes for a much less costly restoration. The car from Portland is in much better shape than the Idaho car, but the seller states that it is "has rust in all the usual places". Cars from dry climates such as Arizona and California are really the way to go, but if you're looking for a rare car such as a blue on blue, it limits your choices.
  18. Here's the link: 1971 Datsun 240Z Series 1 1971 Datsun 240Z Series 1. Original engine and 4 spd. trans. Engine re-built approx. 60,000 miles ago. Interior: headliner, door and side panels, carpet and console in very good condition. Dash pad is cracked and seats need new foam and covers. Exterior: body is very straight but has some rust in the usual spots. Under the battery and the floors are very solid. Bumpers and glass are good. Everything works as it should with the exception of the gas gauge ( doesn't do the full sweep from full to empty). Still has the boxes behind the seats with the tool kit, jack and wheel chalks.   22. I just got off the phone with the seller and the car was sold. He said he thought that he had deleted all of the Craigslist listings, but he keeps getting calls. I told him that it was still active under the "Eastern Colorado" listing. He also told me that his mother-in-law had recently passed away and it was her car (perhaps her husband's before that?). I asked him if he knew if the car was a Series I and he said that it was. He told me that "240Z" emblems on upper rear quarters were replaced with "Z" emblems and either the vent holes in the rear hatch were filled and painted over or the rear hatch was replaced -he wasn't sure. I think that whoever bought the car may have informed him about the differences between Series I and Series II cars, because he told me that before he listed the car, he knew nothing about 240Zs. He also told me that he sold the car for the full asking price, which was no surprise.
  23. AJ, Do you recall if it is a '71 Series I or Series II car? I see that it has a Series I steering wheel and it's hard to tell in the picture if it has the Series I "240Z" emblem behind the quarter window or not. But, I do see that it does not have a Series I rear hatch.
  24. I have approximately 6 of the Hitachi 240Z AM/FM radios and 2 of the 240Z AM radios plus a few of the 260Z/280Z radios that I have purchased over the years. The only problem is that I don't have enough good face plates and knobs for all of them.
