  1. I agree, $6,500.00 is too much for this car. It's a real gamble at that price with all the work that needs to be done and particularly if If the original matching engine is beyond repair and cannot be rebuilt, the value drops significantly.
  2. For a 1971 Colorado inspection sticker, looks like they are $15.00 each plus an additional $5 for a specific month. Not a bad price, I think I'll buy one. Thanks for letting us know Bart.
  3. I've had numerous bumpers re-chromed by Denver Bumper Works over the years and have been very happy with them. I'm not sure about the '73 front bumpers. I know that on the '70 through '72 front bumpers that the inner 2 bolts are 30 inches apart. Does anyone have the '73 240's correct measurements? I do know that they are very good about fixing any mistakes at no charge.
  4. Sorry, I don't have an extra one. In the past, I've bought a couple of fiberglass ones off of Ebay -that's probably the best place to find one.

  5. Check this site out not only for rust areas but for a lot of other info on the S30 Z-cars: http://www.zhome.com (under the heading 'Classic & Collectable Z's', subheading 'Preservation' and you will see '240Z Hidden Rust Areas'. Sorry, no direct link to this page. Good luck to you!
  6. if in fact it is a new, NOS model #KM-1520ZD, that is a very good price. That particular model was standard on the '74 260Z through '76 280Zs. I've attached a picture of a reconditioned one below: Brand New Datsun 260Z 280Z AM/FM Radio! - $185 (Seattle, Washington) Date: 2010-04-28, 8:34PM PDT Reply to: sale-6td8u-1715584735@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?] "Hello Datsun Z fans, What I have here is a brand new factory Hitachi Solid State AM/FM car stereo for the 1970's (1974-1978???) models 260Z and/or 280Z. No kidding, this thing is basically factory new (it's over 30 years old!) with all the wiring, even the spare fuse, and mounting bracket included as well! Model # KM-1520ZD made by Hitachi, Ltd. in Japan. Finish that Z restoration project in style and have a great conversation piece while you're at it. This radio really is in UNBELIEVABLE CONDITION!!! You'd have to see it to believe it! I can email pics if you like. $185.00 CASH! I live in North Seattle and can deliver within a reasonable distance for free (15-20 miles). Thanks!"
  7. Erick, Congrats on your first Z and welcome! Your 280 looks to be a solid car with no rust issues, which is definitely a good thing. Once you get the mechanical issues worked out, you can get the car painted when you are ready. What is the car's original color?
  8. Tough to tell from the pictures what the real condition of the car is. The tail lights and the carburetor should be a fairly simple fix. However, I know they get a lot of rain in the NW, so there probably will be some rust issues. Have any of our members in the Portland area taken a look at this car yet? At the time of this post, the car was still listed on Craigslist: "1970 Datson 240 Z For sale - $3900 (N Portland) Date: 2010-04-22, 10:04AM PDT Reply to: sale-8bgqb-1704761280@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?] This car is number 478 shipped from japan. It needs some love but could be worth a mint one day. I have some extra parts for it that would go with the car. I am looking for serious people who rely cair about the old Z cars this one is worth restoring. It dose run but it needs some work to become a daily driver. Contact Warren Marks with any questions 503-750-4757"

  10. If it's as solid as it appears and has very little rust, even if it doesn't run it's a steal!
  11. I like the rotisserie that Blackblaze427 built.
  12. It is my understanding that the blue interiors on the '70 & '71 903 Blue and 904 White 240Zs was much more rare than the black interiors. Is this correct? Also, I didn't know that the 171 Green 240Zs came with black interiors, every one that I've ever seen in person or otherwise has always had a tan interior.
  13. Welcome! I would check the local Craigslist.com, etc. If you are looking for a daily driver, a 280Z would probably be your best bet. The 280Zs weren't quite as prone to rust as the older 240Zs, they are fuel injected so you don't have all the carburetor issues that you would have with a 240Z. 280Zs are also a little heavier, safer and better suited for daily driving. On top of that, they are generally less expensive than the 240Zs. Good luck with your search.
  14. Advertised as a '71, but if that's the case the seller has the VIN incorrect. The valve cover is not that of an early Series I, so who knows what the deal is. Starting price is too much for the condition; however, the seller states that he is willing to take offers on individual parts. Here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1971-Datsun-240Z-For-Parts-NO-RESERVE_W0QQitemZ220580711138QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item335ba28ae2#v4-37
  15. Yes, looks like the Series I rear hatch was changed out for a newer one and the '240Z' side pillar emblems were removed. It still has its original Series I 20 mph speedometer & steering wheel.
  16. Clive, I remember when you found #1905 last year and enjoyed reading the story on how you discovered it. It really is a solid 240Z and you are very fortunate to find one in such good shape in the Northeast. You are doing a great job on the project. Good luck and please continue to keep updating us on the progress.
  17. Let's be honest here, some jerk keeps messing with it. I must have gone in and corrected the info on my cars 5 or 6 times and someone keeps screwing it up. I pulled my info off altogether a few weeks ago. It's a real shame -I thought Mike had such a great idea and it worked for a long time before someone ruined it.
  18. Did you ever bid on this car? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230439703487&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEDWX%3AIT
  19. At the time of this post, there's only a little over 5 hours before the auction ends and it's at $3,550.00. I've been monitoring the 240Zs on Ebay on a pretty regular basis for over 5 years now and this one looks to be a real bargain. A solid So Cal car with original paint, clean interior and a solid seller with an excellent track record. Be prepared to pay at least $4k for this car (which is still a bargain)!
  20. Take a look at this one in So Cal, it's been at $3,200.00 for a few days now and the reserve was already met: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-240Z-Survivor_W0QQitemZ230439703487QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item35a746d3bf
  21. Former California car now located in the Phoenix area for only $1,500.00. Anyone familiar with the now defunct 'Zs Unlimited' in San Luis Obisbo, California? http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/pts/1602285573.html I picked this car up several years ago with the intent to restore it back to the original ITS race spec. It belonged to Z's Unlimited in San Luis Obisbo, CA - it had a turbo tom's motor set up in it and it was a track car. The motor blew and it was parked. Z's Unlimited is long since gone, but the car is a time capsule. It has been under tarps and car covers for at least 2 decades. There are no cracks in the dash board and the car has never been in an accident. The previous owner stripped the drivetrain and was going to build an L28 for it. I have a clear California title. It comes with a prepped L28 block and crank, the transmission, Header, Roll Bar, extra roof clip (if you want to eliminate the sunroof, an L24 bottom end (assembled) bumpers, glass, and the nuts and bolts removed from the car all in marked containers. Lots of extra parts, even a set of the original coke bottle wheels. The car is very solid and ready to be a great project for someone. Call me with any questions - this is a really cool car that deserves to live another day. Mike@desertdatsun.com or 480-223-7882.
  22. It seems that this thread has gotten away from Zedrally's original question. His question was what was the most that was ever paid for a Zed. Which I interpret as what was the most a Zed ever sold for and not how much an individual has on spent his or her Zed. Obviously, just because someone spends a truck load of money on a car doesn't mean it's worth that much. A car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. This thread would be a lot more interesting if actual sales data is posted rather than how much someone has spent on their car. Just my 2 cents.
  23. This '72 Vintage 240Z Program car went for $39,500.00 on Ebay back in November of 2008: 300269766147.pdf
  24. Oh, I didn't realize that you were with Darrel when he looked at the car today. He may have mentioned it to me, but I didn't hear him since he was on his cell phone and there was a lot of background noise. Anyway, good luck with your search.
