Well, Games 3 through 5 are in Denver and I think the Rockies will win 2 of the 3. Too bad they didn't win Game 2 in Boston on Thursday night, because I really think they needed to in order to have a chance to win the series.

'71 that was on Craigs list now on Ebay

The pieces are in terrible shape (broken & cracked, etc). I know how hard it must be to find blue pieces in good shape. Thanks for letting me know about SEM's close match since I will probably have to paint some other colored panels to match. -
This should be an excellent Word Series featuring my 2 favorite teams . The Rockies have won 21 of their last 22 games and in the process swept the Phillies in the NLDS, swept the Diamondbacks in the NLCS and now they face the Red Sox after 8 days of rest. The Red Sox were down 3-1 in the ALCS and looked like they were dead meat then they came back and won three straight against the Indians and are now in the World Series to play against the hottest team in baseball. I pick the Rockies in 6 games.

My wife, our two younger kids and I just got back from vacation in SoCal late Wednesday night. I'm glad our kids' Fall Break was last week and not this week. Good luck to everyone out there, you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Reminds me of "The Last Sting Ray" documentary on the Speed Channel about the last 63-67 series Corvette Sting Ray.

Thanks for the pics of the blue seats, guys. I am really thinking that I may need to sell the new black seat covers I bought from Xray a few months ago and find some new blue ones! As m4xwellmurd3r knows firsthand, the AZ sun can really take a toll on Z interiors. Two questions: where can I find some blue interior plastic pieces (need the inside quarter window pieces and the left rear piece) Also, this car has blue carpets.....is that what the '70 & '71 blue interior cars came with or were they black like all the other 240s? -

Well, after nearly 4 months I finally got around to trying to attach the pictures again. It was a very simple problem -they were just too big. So I was able to make them a smaller size and attached them. Here's some pics of my newest project taken outside my body man's place the day it arrived from Phoenix in late June. The car only has some very minor surface rust in a few spots. I've never seen a 240Z with all its original metal and virtually no rust like this before. I'm convinced that Arizona is the best place to find a Z! As of today, it's still waiting in line at the body shop and I'm anxious to see the project get started. By the way, I'm reconsidering keeping the blue interior...does anyone know where I can buy some blue seat covers? -
Gary, It's amazing to hear stories like this-for only $3,500.00-what a steal! This is the first I heard about it.

That's good to hear that one of our members can at least use some of the rare Series One parts to help restore another. That's probably the best we can hope for this tired old gal. Here's the pics of 909 for the archives:

Unfortunately, this one might be too far gone for someone to make the investment it would take to restore her. It's a shame to see a sub-1000 Z in this condition. I think that #27 at least had floors in her. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&viewitem=&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.com%3A80%2Fsearch%2Fsearch.dll%3Fsofocus%3Dbs%26sbrftog%3D1%26from%3DR10%26_trksid%3Dm37%26satitle%3D300162406311%26sacat%3D-1%2526catref%253DC6%26fmmk%3D%26fmmd%3D%26fylo%3D%26fyhi%3D%26mppfqy%3D300162406311%26sargn%3D-1%2526saslc%253D2%26sadis%3D200%26fpos%3D80124%26sabfmts%3D1%26ftrt%3D1%26ftrv%3D1%26saprclo%3D%26saprchi%3D%26sadis1%3D100%26fpos1%3D80124%26lsot1%3D%26fsop%3D2%2526fsoo%253D2%26coaction%3Dcompare%26copagenum%3D1%26coentrypage%3Dsearch%26fgtp%3D%26sadis2%3D100%26fpos2%3D80124%26lsot2%3D%26fvi%3D1&item=300162406311

It's an early '71 or Series One car. Like the other 2 members stressed, rust is public enemy #1 when it comes to Zs. Also, I agree with Beandip, if the seller has the bumpers, make sure you get them and any other spare parts. If the car checks out OK, then I would say it's a very good price for a Series One car.
-
If the subject car is too pricey, here's a couple other Series Ones that need some work but are are available at a reasonable price: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/RARE-FIND-1971-Datsun-240Z-That-needs-Nothing_W0QQitemZ320170717539QQihZ011QQcategoryZ6187QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-DATSUN-240Z-5-spd-Manual-Perfect-time-to-buy_W0QQitemZ130165292337QQihZ003QQcategoryZ6187QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I understand that the owner's name is Jim and he has a T-shirt shop in Estes Park, CO which is a tourist town near Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park. The shop also sells Datsun Z parts. Jim bought T&D Auto's inventory of used Z parts a couple of years ago. Before T&D Auto closed down their Z repair & body shop in Hygiene, CO a few years ago, I dropped by and met Dale the owner. Dale must have had at least a dozen Z part cars (mostly 240s) sitting there and about 10 old VW buses converted to storage units and crammed with Z parts! It looks like Jim is really starting to get serious about making a dent in that huge inventory of Z parts and list them on Ebay.

I think this one's been on Ebay before, if I'm not mistaken. Here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Z-Series-z-Z-1969-70-240z-HLS30-00387-First-500_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6187QQihZ016QQitemZ260164208133QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

This very clean 240 is up for sale by the original owner: http://denver.craigslist.org/car/418323182.html

Obviously an inexperienced Ebay seller. He shouldn't have had such a low BIN price for a 3-digit Series One car. I agree with Jason, the buyer got a good deal.

Yes, but unfortunately I'm going to need to replace it with black. That's one of the few bad things about a 36-year old car from the Arizona desert, the interior as well as the weatherstipping, etc. drys out and fades from the harsh sun down there. The rear compartment plastic piece is in close to perfect condition, the plastic ceiling piece is in pretty good shape (a little faded perhaps). The door panels are in good shape, but will need new chrome and are a little sun-faded on the tops. The dog legs are in great shape, but will also need new chrome. The rest of the other plastic pieces are shot. I know the blue parts are hard to find and I don't want to deal with it, so I'd rather just put in black interior like I'm doing on the '72 (formerly red). But trust me, I would much rather have to replace the interior than have to deal with rust damage. I still can't attach any pictures. I've tried a number of times now and it's starting to get frustrating. Perhaps I should try to contact Mike. -

Hi Steve, I'll try to answer your questions in the order you asked them: I bought the car right off of Craigslist without seeing it in person. The seller was great to deal with. He took a bunch of additional pictures of the car for me and then e-mailed them to me. He even drove the car about 25 miles away to the auto carrier pick up point. Before I made the commitment to purchase the car, he gave me a complete description of the car and what work was done to it. The transaction went very well with no problems whatsoever. The transportation from Phoenix to my body man's place in Northwest Denver was about $670.00. As far as the seat covers are concerned, yes I am very interested, please send me a PM. Thanks -

Thanks for the compliment, Deadflo. Yes, I really didn't like to see her go, but what else do you do when you need the cash? Since college tuition is so expensive, I had no other choice. I'm really glad that my wife was alright with me spending a portion of the sale for another Z project. MikeW, I still can't attach the pics. The "Manage Attachements" button has been there the whole time, but the uploading function isn't working. I'll try again later. -

Anyone else having trouble attaching JPGs lately? I tried last night and had no luck and tried twice this morning, once from home and again from work. In the 3 years I've been a member here, I've never had any trouble before. -
'71 that was on Craigs list now on Ebay

Hi guys, Thanks for the kind words. Well, I sold the '71 Orange 918 on Ebay to a very nice buyer who lives in New York City. He works in NYC and plans to ship the car home to France in the near future. He is very happy with the car and I'm happy that I got enough for the car to pay some tuition for my 2 oldest kids. I am also very happy that I was able to keep a little of the money from the sale to......yes.... buy another 240Z project!! My newest project just arrived Thursday from Phoenix at my body man's home/shop in Northwest Denver (about a 40 minute drive from my house). It's a '71 that has spent all 36 years of its life in Arizona. It only has a tiny bit of surface rust on the outside of the car. It needs new paint, interior, tires/wheels,etc, but it is an extremely solid car. Another great thing about the car is that the previous owner (another great guy) spent about $4,000.00 on some major mechanical work. Here's a list of what was done to the car (copied and pasted from his Craigslist ad): Engine: Valve job, piston rings, hone, bearings, seals, freeze plugs, painted block. Fuel: Rebuilt SU carbs, new fuel rail, fuel lines, fuel pump, filter, erg valve. by-pass valve Electrical: lights and turn signal pods, coil, plug wires, cap, rotor, running lights, flasher relay Brakes: New rotors, drums, master cylinder, slave cylinder, calipers, shoes, re-built brake pistons fr/r Cooling: New radiator & cap, water-pump, hoses, fan, fan clutch, belts Suspension: New tie-rods, upper and lower diff mounts, sway bar bushings/ends, re-built steering rack Transmission: New clutch, rebuilt 4spd gear box, diff cover gasket, diff breather valve It has the original matching numbers engine & 4-speed transmission. Everything is intact, including the console with ashtray, lighter, coin tray, rear defogger switch & cover plate (unbroken), outside driver's mirror (in very good shape!), tail lights, bumpers (all in great shape), side marker lights, front turn signals. etc. Like I said earlier, the car is at the body shop and my body/paint guy has a couple other projects ahead, but he will be ready to start on it in about 2 months or so. He is the same guy who did the the '71 918 Orange car that I just sold as well as my '72 (I'm finishing up the lights right now & should be able to start on the new interior next weekend). I will attach some pics that I took the other day of the new project sometime tomorrow. -
Below is the link to #0051. The seller states that he also has some other Series I donor cars. $10k for both #305 and #51 plus the donor cars would be a reasonable deal. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160128853712&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:middle:us
