  1. This guy is unbelievable........the '70 (#5578) is back on and he still has it misidentifed as a '72. Here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4548998361&ssPageName=MERC_VIC_ReBay_Pr4_PcY_BI
  2. The other '70, which he had misidentified as a '72 (VIN 5578) (see link below) also went by the wayside...... solid, Arizona Series I Zs are hard to come by and it would have been very interesting to see what these 2 cars would have gone for if this flake didn't ruin the whole bidding process! I hope the buyer(s) of these 2 cars restores them and doesn't just part them out. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6187&item=4546856861&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
  3. You're right Carl, this guy is the biggest flake out there. At first I thought he was just weird, judging by his descriptions, etc. I should have known better to even make a bid, but the low VIN and the solid body were hard to resist! TexasZ, You mentioned earlier that you were in contact with this guy and were trying to buy one of the cars. Did you ever get anywhere with him?
  4. What the hell happened???? Texasz, you were right, this guy is selling these cars outside of eBay and he just pulled the one I was bidding on (1970 VIN #3486) !!!..... Damnit Jim!!! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4547631522&category=6187&sspagename=WDVW
  5. Thanks, Texasz! It's about a 12-hour drive from the Denver area, so I probably won't bid very much on this car, especially since I'm out of room and will have to pay to store it.
  6. Looks like this guy pulled 3 of the cars off from auction, including the '70 that was misidentified as a '72 and the 300ZX Turbo. This is a strange situation.... 8 Zcars sitting together in the desert and at the time of this posting, the highest price for any of the remaining 5 is barely over $100.00 with only a couple days left ...... and the guy writes strange stuff about each car???
  7. TexasZ, Now is your chance! It's still only at $99.00 as of the time of this posting and you're not that far from the Phoenix area are you?
  8. This time this guy has it right, just listed another Series I (#3486). These cars are prime candidates for restoration since they have been in the dry Arizona desert. Solid bodies with just some surface rust. I would love to buy this one listed below and the other '70 he has up for auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4547631522&category=6187&sspagename=WDVW Oh, and he also listed one more, a '73, for a total of 8 Zs, sitting in the same field in "The Valley of the Sun" Here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6187&item=4547605179&rd=1
  9. Someone has 6 restorable Z-cars up for auction in the Phoenix area. Sounds like they are all pretty solid, just some surface rust. Three 240Zs, a 260, a 280 and a 300ZX Turbo all starting at just $99.00! I sent a question to the seller and the silver Series I in the background of the lime green '73 240 and one other will also be listed within 24 hours. Check them out: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6187&item=4547076245&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6187&item=4547224327&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6187&item=4546856861&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6187&item=4547224345&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6187&item=4546884234&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6187&item=4546757253&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

    How Old?

ZedMark, Strange, I will be 46 in about 5 weeks and I bought my first Z in 1978 as well and it was also a '72! I bought right before going back for my sophomore year in college. Sometime during my freshman year in college, I decided that I wanted a 240Z. I worked all summer and saved practically everything I made, and used up what was left in my savings account and bought the Z. When I went back to school, everyone loved the car! It had a beautiful black paint job (originally blue) with a 4-speed, nice wheels, a bra and rear louvers. This time period was just before Datsun introduced the 280ZX. After about 3 years I sold the car for $4,200.00 ($200.00 more than I originally paid for it). After I sold the Z, I got a '76 Corvette (silver with red leather interior and a 4-speed). My son (who is now 18 and will be going to college next fall) and I now have two 240Z's that we are restoring and love them!
  11. Where do you live? California (or Colly-fornia as Arnold says) usually has the most Zs for sale. Here's a link to 240s available on Ebay as of the time & date of this reply: http://search.ebay.com/240z_Passenger-Vehicles_W0QQcatrefZC12QQfromZR40QQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQsacatZ6001QQsojsZ1
  12. Since you are asking for opinions, I'll give you mine... I say buy a 240, preferrably a '70 to '72, but a '73 would be fine as well. 240s are widely recognized as classics. 260s and 280s are not (at least not yet). 240s are generally worth more and have more potential to appreciate in value than 280s. Like a lot of the other members have mentioned, it really depends on what you are looking for in a Zcar. Good luck! Steve
  13. Sounds like it needs some work.... but.. hey, she's worth it! Must feel a little weird to shift with your left hand? ...... Nova SS, are those goats I see in the background??...and green grass?? You must live in the SE. 26th Z is probably the closest to you....#26 & 27 would love to have some company!!
  14. I saw this 1970 very original 240z on ebay. It needs some work if you want a nice early Z driver (new floorpans, some other body work, tune-up, etc) or a good candiate for a complete restoration. It's hard to find Series I Zs this original anymore (even has the original "D" wheelcovers & radio!) Not sure what the reserve is, but I have a feeling someone could get this for a reasonable price. I would try to buy it, especially since its not too far from Denver (near Salt Lake City), but I have 2 other 240z projects going right now.... ..Here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4532044609&category=6187
  15. Like I said, this was a joke. It's not the real deal. Someone is playing a practical joke on us..... If this guy is for real why hasn't he replyed back by now? Heck, I thought it was strange that he hadn't responded days ago, now it been over a week since he started the thread. Everyone was very cordial to him at first, including myself.... then we never heard from the guy. I'm done with this one.
  16. Mr Camouflage, What I meant by "too good to be true" was that he has 240z VIN #73, possibly low miles for a 35+ year old car (129k), doesn't have a clue what he's got, maybe looking to part it out and someone could probably get one helluva bargain. And as far as an asking price is concerned, are you kidding? He doesn't even know what to ask for it, that's why he made his very first post here to find out! That's what I would call too good to be true.
  17. Why hasn't Sharkman responded? Is this a fellow member using a new alias to try to fool us? I wonder........ this sems like one of those "too good to be true" deals... What does everyone else think??????
  18. Welcome Sharkman! What part of the country do you live in? If you are any where close to Colorado, I would be very interested in buying your aunt's car. Please post some pictures of the car.
  19. 26thZ, Yes, you are correct this is the car that was on eBay and located in Colorado a year ago. It was at Peak Nissan, in the Southwest Suburban area of Denver. I have attached a picture of the car, along with pics of the documentation & serial number plate when Peak Nissan was trying to sell it on their showroom floor. My son and I saw the car in person and it was very impressive. I realize that you have started an entire new thread on the "Restoration Program" and I think that the work you have done on it is outstanding! You certainly are off to a terrific start! I thought that I would provide these pictures (and I have more of this Z). This car certainly has made the rounds lately, from Florida to Colorado then back east again to New Jersey, then to wherever the eBayer lives who just bought it (and that doesn't even take into consideration where it had been before it was sold at the dealership in Florida). Peak Nissan was trying to sell it at the dealership for $33k, but the sales manager told me that they would take $29k. If anything, it sure brought a lot of people into the showroom and I think they sold a lot of other Nissans (including some new 350Zs) as a result of it being there. Good luck to you on your Restoration Program and your restoration of #27. My son and I have 2 restorations in progress as well, and will be keeping a close look at your Restoration Program as it progresses Steve
  20. That's pretty cool Deadflo how you found the blocks shots! I didn't know Haggerty even did that! I probably caught 6 or 7 hours total of the auction over the 3 days it was on Speed Channel, but I didn't see any of the three Zs that were up for auction. Does anyone know if any of them made it on TV? If so, I am very curious to hear what the comments were.
  21. There were 3 Datsun Z-cars at this year's Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction in Scotsdale, AZ that took place last weekend. The '72 went way too cheap for a full restoration. Selling a car with no reserve can be very risky! I don't think the people who attend & bid on cars at the Barrett-Jackson auctions are ready for Zs yet and Zs are ready for the Barrett-Jackson auction yet either. Here's the links: http://www.barrett-jackson.com/auctionresults/common/cardetail.asp?id=178916 http://www.barrett-jackson.com/auctionresults/common/cardetail.asp?id=178464 http://www.barrett-jackson.com/auctionresults/common/cardetail.asp?id=178728
  22. The value of Z wheel covers (or hub caps) has sharply risen as of late, particulary the rare "D" caps. I understand the the "D" caps were only found on Series I 240Zs (1970 models & early '71s), which happen to be the series with the smallest production number. "D" caps in good shape bring big bucks today. Here's a link to what may be a record or close to one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7935518570&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT
  23. Thanks for all the information & picture Ed! You did a great job on restoring the hubcap! Now that I have the correct color for the newer "Z" cap, I'll need to find out what the proper color is for the old "D" hubcaps.
  24. My 18 year old son and I have about 5 complete sets of Z wheel covers that we are currently restoring. We have 3 sets of the older and harder to find Series I or "D" covers and a couple sets of the more common "Z" wheel covers. All 5 of the sets need to be repainted. Does anyone know what the correct paint colors are for each of these?
  25. After reading what a lot of you guys have spent on restoring your Zs, I don't feel so bad anymore! HOWEVER, the only thing that concerns me now is that I'm only half-way through on my 2 projects!!
