'72 Fairlady Z Project For Sale in San Jose, CA
lonetreesteve replied to lonetreesteve's topic in Internet Finds
The dark blue sticker in the windshield is interesting - "US Forces -Japan 1984"- providing some background history of the car. Appears that an American in the US Military purchased the car in Japan and then brought it home to California many years ago. Not sure what the light blue sticker with the 7 and the small Japanese writing system characters below the 7 are all about. Perhaps an auto inspection sticker? -
Found this project on SF Bay Area Craigslist. The VIN is # S30-09031. https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/cto/d/1972-nissan-fairlady-datsun/6362281693.html

This set of the plastic 'D' center caps was already sold on eBay by a seller in California. Here's the link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-240Z-D-Series-I-Wheel-Covers-caps-Set-of-4-in-Very-Nice-Condition-Nos/122737997221?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

70240z For sale, 45 years in family, is on Montana craiglist

Looking in the engine bay, the original paint color appears to be 918 Orange. -
Looks like #64 sold back on September 11th for $60K - same seller. Here's the link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-Datsun-Z-Series-/162659926147?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=hwYtBWkiUVB%2BVaZ%2FPs63eos93J8%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

Good price for what looks to be a pretty solid Series II (HLS30-43310) project car for only a $2,800.00 asking price with a low-rust body for the most part except for the battery tray area. Looks like the original paint color is 905 Monte Carlo Red which is a great color that you don't see very often. Here's the link: https://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/cto/d/datsun/6221670467.html

You have the correct part number for the '70 thru '72 240Z front bumper. The picture looks like you have the rubber piece on backwards - the rounded edge needs to be on the outside end that curves around to the front edge of the fender. Try starting from the first hole on the side corner of each side of the bumper (see picture below).

I'm sorry to hear of the passing of your friend, Mike. Steve

I posted 3 pictures of the car back in Post #6 of this thread. Edit: I also added a couple of pictures below showing the rust areas.
-
Looks like the car was sold, as the Craigslist listing was cancelled by the seller. $6,500.00 was a good price for that Series I car.

Not a bad price for a Series I car with some rust issues. How about those crazy after-market orange & black checkered floor mats? My son and I had a set of these mats that were thrown in with a 240Z that we bought back in 2004. We were going to throw them away, but we ended up selling on eBay for a pretty good amount of money for the time. Here's the link:

Welcome, Warty! And congratulations on your beautiful Series I 240Z. Arizona is a good place to find rust-free 240Zs. I have purchased two 240Zs from there - a '71 from the Phoenix area back in 2007 (sold about 3 1/2 years ago) and another '71 about a year and a half ago in Tucson (1 of 2 240Z projects I have now). Good luck with your immediate and long term plans for the car and keep us posted on the progress.
-
Congratulations, Jerry! That's great to hear that everything went well with your negotiations and you were able to purchase the car. To purchase an original owner 240Z is an extremely rare occurrence these days, especially a very original 1970 with a sub-5000 VIN and only 50,000 original miles. I'm also glad to hear that the rust isn't that bad and that you will be able to restore the car. Please keep us updated and post some pics when you have time in the near future.
-
Good luck, I hope the owner accepts your offer!
-
Thanks for letting us know what the VIN is, Jerry. Yes, it is always sad to see a 240Z in that condition. Still no bids on the eBay listing, so I hope you are able to get this car for a good price. The car certainly can be restored and #4574 is still a relatively low VIN. Good luck and please let us know how it works out.

You're right about the blue interior. The inside is so dusty and the pictures so bad that the interior appeared black to me when I first looked at it. I used to have a '71 white with blue interior that I sold about three and a half years ago and I loved that combo and miss the car!

Appears to be a low VIN since it has both the choke and throttle levers? Has the original Hitachi AM radio and looks to be very original except for the dealer-optioned slotted mag wheels. The car's original hub caps are included with the car which are the early version D hubcaps when you look at the placement of the valve stem hole. The picture of the rear of the car is of bad quality, but it looks like there might be defroster lines in the hatch glass, so the VIN may not be that low. After reading through the questions, the owner is in Florida and his friend is selling the car for him. He does not know what the VIN is, but will have it tomorrow. The seller - Harmon classics in Las Vegas got HLS30-00105's original matching engine to run. However, the video doesn't show the tail pipe to see if it smokes or not. The important thing is that it runs and that certainly increased the car's value.
-
Looks like the auction was ended on June 16th. I wonder how much the car sold for? Here are some pictures of HLS30-00105 from the eBay listing:

Strip that Series I car down to the unibody and have it bead-blasted. It's still restorable. Looks like a shop that specializes in Datsuns, with another Z next to it, a Datsun pickup in the garage bay and is that a B210 on the upper left of the picture?
-
Looks like #105 was sold, as the listing was deleted. I wonder who bought the car?

Not much time left for this clean and original 901 Silver 240Z. Here's the link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1973-Datsun-Z-Series-240-Z-/222480058172?hash=item33ccd8473c:g:ABAAAOSww3tY5V1w&vxp=mtr
