I'm pretty sure my 73 has stock internals... so I'd have to rebuild the engine with the hardenned seats to run unleaded safely? Otherwise use the subsititute?

yes, I did a search for "leaded gas" The majority of the discussions seemed to be held by our aussie brethren, many used something called optimax, most seemed to use 98 octane gas straight up, claiming they didn't need the substitutes. So what do people stateside use? What Octane? Do you add in the substitute lead or no? I thought the lead in the gas acted like a lubricant for the engine. If you ran unleaded gas in a engine not designed for it it would run to hot and break down? I just got my new "toy" , a '73 240z, and am trying to figure out what I need to do to take care of it.

Interesting... I haven't touched mine yet, I'll try to take a pic tonight... but it looks like its meant to move.. kind of like a floor e-brake on some cars... and its on the drivers side like the above pic shows.... Anyone else have these in there car? wait, I rexamined the above pic... mine doesn't go all the way across.. its just a pedal on the far left side next to the door.. iw as looking at the wrong thing in that pic....
  4. Good to know. I may try and save it then, depending on its condition when i take it off ( we'll see how much rust is on the backside... ) I'm hoping to keep the car close to original ....
  5. pink vw van..... 240z...... share a pink vw van with sis.... 240z...... being seen by friends in a pick vw van...... 240z...... ... have you considerred a moped? You'd get more respect than you would in a pink vw van..... I know I have stated reservations before about having a Z car as your only car... but damn.... looks like you don't have much of a choice.

If it moves...... Just an idea, but some cars in the 70's had a switch in the floor there that switched high beams/low beams. Also, Ford when the horn broke on many of the 70's cars/trucks would wire a switch in the floor like this that you'd use for the horn..... it was easier to do than fixing the steering column mount apaprently. i'm not saying that this is what this is, but it looks similar. My 73 240z has this on the floor as well, I was wonderring what it was actually... I haven't dug into the car yet ( got it yesterday ) but I was planning on it...
  7. , I think its part of a rain gutter.... seriously.. I don't know. I doubt its original though. I'm probably going to take it off and put the 240z side sticker there instead. The aluminum siding there doesn't look bad in person, it could have been an aftermarket option, though I've never seen it before. Its held on with phillips head screws though, which makes it look cheap up close. ...... rust-wise there is a 2 inch hole underneath the battery, but the rest is solid ( screwdriver wouldn't go through the metal near the hole ), and two spots on the rear hatch where I could make only a screwdriver sized hole next to the rear window. ( I poked all around, trying to determine problem spots. :classic: The front hood has a bit of bondo on it b/c the bumper was bent at some point and someone openned the hood afterwards, it crumpled up the drivers side a bit.. will take some hammerring out but shouldn't be to bad. It need a new interior and a new paint job... but it has had no accidents and all the joins are nice and tight, panels fit very well. One funny thing... It has a dash cap thats all cracked and destroyed... so I ripped it off last night to find a fully intact dash!!! :classic: no cracks!!!! :classic: :classic: with glue all over it..... I'm hoping I can find a way to take the glue off without ruining the dash.....
  8. Done! http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/631840 These are the previous owners pictures, Its still on the tow right now and I haven't even had a chance to take it of yet....
  9. Was driving back last night from NY to North Carolina and came across a Z driving south on Interstate 81. Was dark blue, with two tan racing stripes over the top and a large spoiler. The bumper looked 280z'ish ( I think ) but it was badged a fairlady and only had the datsun badge on the back. Was that anyone on here? I was towing a 73 240z behind my xterra when we ran into you, probably a half hour south of West Virginia? Was a nice car anyway...
  10. I have no doubt that the buyer is telling the truth. Rick's a car dealer. He acts like one. I was just saying that I found for the most part he's pretty honest as far as car dealers go. I'm not sure why he told you it went to the shredder, it may have just been a sensationalized way of saying the car isn't available to you for purchase.... who knows. I picked up his 73 Blue datsun yesterday and drove it towed behind me 650 miles back to its new home. After I bought it he sat me down with car for close to an hour ( on July 4th... he even made his wife wait... ) and explained everything that was wrong with it, what I would need to do etc etc etc... and offerred me a ton of pointers on how to start the retoration. He pretty much went out of his way on his vacation to make me happy. He even took me to see his own collection of restorations he's done. Very impressive... His main focus is Z's, and he's got some pretty sweet examples.... I'm not really defending him on this, he can come on here and do that himself if he wants to. All I'm really doing is offering another point of view on doing business with him, and saying I had a good experience. A lot of people come to these message boards and will judge someones small business on one persons comments, so I just wanted to add my 2 cents b/c I was happy with the way things went. Especially now that I own my first Z
  11. 2+2 with a bad description... I think the bid price might be how much he pays you to take it off his hands....
  12. 240z + snow + salt = junk .... real quick... I'm all for you owning a Z.... just make sure you can borrow dad's truck in the winter.
  13. No..... Z's are awesome cars don't get me wrong. But a 30 year old car as a daily driver? In Canada? You'll want another car to drive when conditions are less than ideal.... Z's are a second car IMO.... You'd be unable to drive it most of november throughout march..... and you wouldn't want to drive it on rainy days....
  14. Interesting..... I bought the blue '73 he has up on his website to restore...
  15. I've met Rick at Eurasian, and have been corresponding with him for some time... For what its worth he seems like a pretty straight person.... He gets on a tangent very easily when he talks or emails though. But I doubt that he would have intentionally mislead you...
  16. I'm a big fan of the simpler ones like the BRE front air damn. Have you looked at those? they just seem to go more with the styling of the car. http://www.classicdatsun.com/new/432front.JPG I wouldn't do the whole BRE package, but I do like the air damn.
  17. 160 lbs is the shipping weight, not the actual weight of the air dam. that includes all the packaging. Looks wise... without sideskirts down the sides it doesn't really match up with the rest of the body. Look at picture 2, it looks a full inch or 2 lower than the door sides.... It breaks up the lines of the car. The last pic shows it as well. I'd find a smaller one.

I'll have to look them up, was not aware that they've come stateside :-)

Honestly.. I don't know. I've read many a thread where people had mixed opinions on the half and full dash covers. So I was iffy about those. $$ isn't the problem... that comment about the dash costing more than my whole car was meant as a joke...

68100-E Dashboard 72(1) $1448.00 from that link MikeW sent me That dash costs more than I bought my Z for....

I saw the fiberglass and carbon fiber dashes when I did a search for 'replacement dashes'... they looked interesting but I was wonderring if they would then be rock hard to touch.... I was just surprised at how many companies offer replacement dash caps, but how hard it was to find a replacement dash... $$ to be made here anyone?
  23. Corganx33 posted a post in a topic in Interior
I've seen the dash caps you can buy to cover up your cracked dashes..... Is there a reason why I can't seem to find a brand new dash reproduction? I've seen one for sale for $900, but it sold, it was a Nissan OEM part, I'd rather go out and buy the whole thing though than just a cap.... if they can make a dash cap, why doesn't anyone sell a full dash? Also, has anyone tried recovering a dash with either vinyl or leather? seems to me if you could get the material, it wouldn't be unreasonable to form it to fit the original dash... would take a little sewing and maybe.... may look nicer than a cap.

you are right Everyone else obeys the speed limit. Everyone else obeys the 2 second rule between cars. Everyone else uses their turn signal to change lanes. Anyway. I'm done with this thread. I see your point in a way, but I just don't agree with it I guess. I'm not here to argue anyway, especially with people I know nothing about. That doesn't get any of us anywhere.
