Montezuma, I second that! Although I am offended by the way your dog was looking at me kinda seductively there... ROFL ~Brian
  2. It is almost the best tool you can use. Packed FULL of information. Support ZTherapy, get it thru them tho...... www.Ztherapy.com i think....
  3. Yea I thought of all those things, the only reason that I am going with a gearing issue is that there is a kind-of high pitched howl that just about makes you want to jump outa the cabin tooling down the road. Also, when I am almost rolling to a stop, you can actually hear the gears in the diffy almost as if they are not "meshing" together right....
  4. Agreed, but my 4 bolts are so messed up from the previous owner's install that I think that I am ahead by doing that! There is noise from the backlash being off in the rear end anyway and I think that the chances of the pinon nut being backed off are slim...
  5. In the event that the driveline bolts are a pain, and please corect me if this is wrong as I am recalling this from memory, you can remove the half-shafts and follow the steps minus unbolting the driveline, then pull the driveline and the diff out as one unit as the drive line slides outa the tranny. Watch for fluid running out after the drive linecomes slides out as this is a mess in the works. ~Brian

How've you been? Long time no chat... You know, I looked at that and thought that those looked backwards... Now that you joust my memory, it seems that I do recall hitting those from the other side last time I did a d-line about 100 years ago. Thanks for the advice, like blox man said, time to bite the bullett and just do it. The other option is to wait until I drop the entire rear to place another in, by the way, anyone ever had a pinion nut back off a bit changing the lash??

So, Looking under the car this weekend, I noticed that there is some play in the main Driveline U joint but it is strange... It's not acting like play in the needle bearings, but side to side as if the wrong c-clips were used, not getting that sung fit that I typically see. Has anyone else experienced this? Also, dropping that shaft is a pain in the butt from the diffy, anyone know of a method that may be a bit easier? You can't hit it from the back with an extension because the rear end is in the way and the angle from the mount is odd and there is not much room for twisting the 12mm nut that is on the diffy end... I really want this thing off to also check the pinon nut to see if it has backed away any and in is the culprit of improper gapping in the ring / pinion causing the noise. Thanks all... ~Brian

Measure the distance between the studs to the mustache bar, this wil help distinguish between the bars as they can appear the same... While you are in there upgrade the bushings to poly-thane.
  9. I will check into that, I'll Google the club and try to look them up... Thanks!
  10. Bobc, Please let us also know how the circ de sole audition goes... ~Brian:)
  11. Thanks again all... BleachZee_ 15x7 is the wheel size. The Proxes look better on there...

I am still looking for a source for snowflake centercaps...

superfunk - I would try contacting Z therapy for a lead on linkage parts, they are here in Oregon in Salem. You can talk to Steve, and I think that Bruce is still there as well... kcoke~ Once you get things freed up, I would be sure to check the choke shafts that go into the bottom of the carbs, in the event that the car is runing rough, take your hand (watch the exhaust) and push up on the bottomof the choke shaft. If these push up with the choke off, then they are sticking. This is a common problem and is usually apparent with cars that have been sitting a while or just have not had the carbs freshened up. Personally, I recommend that you get the Tune-up video/dvd from Z Therapy, it is $ well spent and a great way to learn the top things you can do to a Z for best runnability and address the common ailments. Good luck!

I say that you keep it.... By the way how's the rust? You mentioned 2 winters in the Oregon rain... I would check under the battery and the floorboards to start. Also check the frame rails to just make sure that you are safe out there. The intermittent vibration could be many things, kinda sounds like tire balance but I would check the u-joints too. You have 5 to choose from under there Ok, $5 for the Panasports. That's FOUR DOLLARS PROFIT AND A FREE CAR! haha! ~Brian
  15. Doesn't AM stand for almost music?

Holy crap a buck. Wow, and Panasports. I'll give you 2 bucks that's double your money!! Nice... And congrats, welcome to the site! ~Brian
  17. That is a darn fine question... I want to say 15x8 but I will double check when we put the Proxes on there this weekend. Once in a while I want to get the Konig NetZ 17" wheels, but I just can't bring myself to take the Hayahi's off.....
  18. Wow. You must have thought that car was posessed. Thanks for the post!

I am with the remove the plugs idea and see if there is something in the chamber(s). Beware, water and fuel will not compress like air / fuel spray. Hydraulicing (spelling?) an engine can have BAD results. Keep us posted...
  20. That is excellent news, and I am glad to see that you are on the road...

Holy cow guys, that was 8 or 9 cars ago... I was 20, I was working at the local Nissan dealership in Hillsboro Oregon and I spotted a '78 280 Z in the wholesale lot that had been traded in. I had no idea what the cars were and was hooked on the first drive. I sold a Toyota truck to a friend and saved the car from the wholesalers. Too many years later, and a few in between as some of you know, I have never lost the Z bug. I have a 10 year old son that is hooked on them as well and that has me a bit scared.... Needless to say it will NOT be his first car. rtaylor, looking forward to the report!
  22. I'm happy to snap some pics for you, it may be this weekend as my damn job has me runnning at 100 mph. I need a break, I think that I would rather be helping you pull the damn core verses going to work and that is sad at best. Will Saturday work? Glad to help... ~Brian
  23. Thanks for the PM Roger, and for the spot on those wheels... Just don't tell Steve I still have them.
  24. My next door neighbor John has a parts car with 240jetjoc and I was helping take the dash out since I have done this too many times now. Once we removed the dash, I went on a quest to get the core out just for the heck of it. Call me sick, yes. The process is tedious, and you have to be somewhat of a contortionist to do it, but it can be done. Beware taking it to a shop, the book calls for around 8 hours to do it and most mechanics get impatient and may not treat the car with some "tlc" like you would. The heater box HAS to come off the firewall like Arne said, there are 2 screws in the back of the unit that are not possible to get to otherwise. Do yourself a favor and replace the heater control valve while you have it out. If you have a problem getting this there is a replacement part that you can get from Mack truck that I am told works and is only about twelve bucks new. Please do NOT get the mack truck dog and place on hood, this is NOT a good idea. In the event that you want some pics of the box out of the car, I can shoot some pics for you so you have an idea what holds what to what, I have found that this has helped me in the past. By the way, there are 4 cables coming off the dash controls to the box, not three so you know. Be careful driving the car with this ailment, the cores start to leak quickly and I have heard many a nightmare of warping a head "limping " the car home... That gets expensive quick. Let me know, I'll do what I can to help. Good luck...
  25. Well so much for me making it at 5:00. Dammit. I headed in after playing Z cars with John and Rodger and checking Proxes tire sizes at Les Schwab's and it was 5:24. Sorry guys, when it's not raining I am outside I guess. Those cars look awesome, I heard that there were triple SU's on your Z Mike! Veeerry cool. Thanks Arne for posting the pics. I remember helping push the White Zombie around at Blue Lake... I think that my back still hurts from that I have to say that car is amazing, just think how fast it would be if it wasn't 2400 plus pounds! Again, sorry for not making it guys, it would have been great to see ya. Congrats to the cars that were in the show, they look amazing.
