My son just bought a 280Z. (can't remember the year - first year they were fuel injected) He thought it would be an easy fix to get this car up and running... The previous owner had attempted some "half-fast" repairs and we're going to need a lot of help. Most pressing are 2 points I hope someone here can help with: 1 - No power to fuel pump. (At least I think...) The two wires connected are supposed to deliver 12 volts with ignition switch on? I can't find a fuse for the fuel pump. Is there a fuse? Is there a relay? Is it safe to "jump" the fuel pump? Can I connect it to a 12v source to see if it spins? What is the polarity? 2 - The former owner re-wired the fuel injectors. He cut off the connectors & re-did the wiring using crimp connectors & spades... (sigh...) I bought 6 new connectors. These connectors have polarity? How do I tell if the previous jerk (oops, owner) has them wired properly (cough, cough)? Is there a way to test the wire pair to the injectors to make sure I get the wiring re-done properly? All my sports car experience is with early '70's MG's (Midget) & Triumphs (TR6). Since then I've owned Ford's and recently numerous Nissan's for myself & my kids (2 late '90's Maxima's, 2 mid '90's Altima's, a '90 240sx, & a '00 Xterra) I used to like working on these things but I get grumpy busting up my knuckles in my old age... I would appreciate any wisdom you can impart. I'd really like to get this car OUT of my garage so I can get my Explorer back in... (this is Arizona and my Explorer is dark blue - do the heat gain calculations)
