I'm back (with more questions too! 280z vs 280zx?)
Engine and Trans and Diff in common. Virtually everything else is different. You'll get many different views, but I don't consider it much of a "Z" and certainly not a "traditional" one.

240Z in movies
Geez, I'd forgotten how "rustic" Laguna was back in the day. At one time there actually was a "laguna seca" (dry lake) in the middle of the track, or at least most of the time it was "seca". There were times when the mosquito's were quite thick in the in-field. Still, I saw some of the greatest racing (IMO) there. Can-Am, IMSA, Trans-AM, Winston-West Stockers, Motorcycles, etc.

Looking for a RHS 240Z mirror?
I learned my lessons the hard way on buying these mirrors through eBay. It took me quite some time to acquire enough "parts" to make complete mirrors, and the "pads" & "mounting brackets" are even rarer than the mirrors themselves. I am still in the market for parts to try to make another complete set, but I no longer bid as high as I used to (having been burned a few times). Still, if you want these mirrors, IMO, you have to start collecting parts somewhere, sometime. Aw shucks, you're some number of characters yourself, Will

Looking for a RHS 240Z mirror?
It appears to be the same, but it should be considered as "mirror parts" and not a complete "mirror", IMO. First, there is no way to tell if the housing pivot is "tight" or "sloppy", and there is no way to tell if the "glass" adjustment is still functional. With the seller claiming it is a driverside mirror, I'm suspicious that one or both of the adjustment features are non-functional. Be advised there is no specific "driver-side" or "passenger-side" to these mirrors. A set has two of the exact same mirror assemblies with two protective pads, two mounting brackets, and four machine screws. Second, it does not have the plastic protective pad that goes between the mirror mounting arm and the car to protect the paint and door skin. It also does not come with the bracket that goes inside the door and is used the secure the mirror mount screws (in effect, clamping the mirror securely over a large area, not just at the screws). The picture attached shows a complete mirror for one side of the the car. (Note: In the picture, the screws are installed backwards in the mounting bracket, the screw heads are ment to be inserted into the mirror base, through the door skin and then thread into the convex side of the bracket)

Another Z Factory Restoration on Ebay
I don't believe that Nissan used original radios in all of the Vintage Z's. Also, Not sure what is meant by "cigarette lighter disease" but someone mentioned a while back that due to lack of inventory of the early dashes, Nissan used the later 72/73 dashes for the fac..., errr Vintage cars. I don't think people should expect these cars to be built to the same parts/year specification as the original 240Z's.

You are correct, Sir! Heh, Heh.......I was just trying to "wind up" those people who have a "hissy-fit" over the "F" word.

Looking for a RHS 240Z mirror?
Carl B: Here is a link to a web page that describes and illustrates what appears to me to be a most excellent repair for these mirrors. George Cohen (a member of the 240z.org mail list) posted this link a year or two ago. (Right after I rebuilt one of my sets using a similar, but probably not as long lasting method.) When the time comes, I will use this method to do a longer term repair. http://www.e-type-lovers.com/mirror.htm (George is also into E-Type Jags)

Looking for a RHS 240Z mirror?
Hi Carl: Frankly, I never took a micrometer to them to compare, but the ones I bought from a local Speed/Wheel &Tire shop sometime back in the mid 70's appeared indistinguishable (to me) from the ones in the display case at Pierotti Datsun (now Nissan) in Fremont, CA that were priced higher than what I paid. They had all the same features (double adjustment, recessed pivot, etc) and seeemed IMO to be of the same size, though I cannot guarentee an exact mm for mm match, though if they aren't, they are VERY close to it. The ones pictured in my previous post came from eBay and I haven't found any markings on them to indicate who manufactured them let alone who sold them. EDIT: Regarding your mention of the wear issue, I have some information on how to repair that, but cannot find it at the moment. Someone on the 240z.org mail list had a procedure that look like it would work very well and retain adjustability. When I find it, I will post or email you.

Looking for a RHS 240Z mirror?
The attached pictures ar the "Racing Mirrors" that were sold by some dealers, and many other sources for use on 240Z's in the area where I live. The black housings are metal, and pivot on the mounting arms. The mirror (glass) itself also pivots within[/i} the housing so that there are two places you can adjust for optimum viewing. These appear on eBay occasionally and even in semi-bad condition are a bit pricey (by my definition). It took me 2 years to collect enough parts and pieces to rebuild two complete sets of them.

Windshield Glass -- foggy
It is. Trader Joe's used to carry Vegemite a few years ago. I looked for it today, but it seems they no longer carry it. We have a store in town that carries foodstuffs popular with Brits. I wonder, do they eat vegemite too, or is it an Aussie only thing?

Another Z Factory Restoration on Ebay
Has anyone noticed that this car is being sold by Courtesy Nissan and the statements being made by them? "Courtesy Nissan holds the privilege of being one of the very few "Z-Stores" in the nation. When these cars were restored they were sold at only dealerships that Nissan felt worthy enough of this vehicle. These distinguished dealerships were given the title "Z-Store". This 240z was sold in 1997 from Courtesy and now has returned in to the inventory. It was serviced and inspected by our award winning service department. If you are interested in seeing the car it is located at Courtesy Nissan in Richardson,Texas" "This Datsun has just over 1000 miles on it since restoration and has been garage kept since the factory restore in the late 90's. The car is in beautiful condition and looks as if it just rolled off the line. The interior color is black and the exterior is Blue (paint code 903). The car comes with the original dealer option slotted mags with new tires. It also is equipped with A/C. Originally a California car, since 1997 it has been in Texas and has had only one owner since factory restoration. The car is currently titled in Texas. Own a piece on automotive history with this rare 240Z. I wonder if the Z Police will be contacting them about their statements? We're counting on you!

Rear wheel bearing preload
Marks pic of his clean hub shows it very well. Yeah, the marks are fairly shallow in depth, so it doesn't take much paint, rust, dirt, or whatever to obscure the mark. I had to spray my spare hub with penetrating oil and apply a brush to remove debris in order to find the mark on mine.

Indy 500 Not Won By Danica Patrick!
I don'tr recall (though i could be wrong) anyone saying that. However, I did say that she was doing what all drivers do, shilling for her team and her sponsors benefit. Taking advantage of every opportunity possible. If that is what it takes for some people to "let it go", so be it. Then we can get back to discussing the backmarkers that have been in the IRL for years and accomplished little.

Happy Birthday, Me!
I was looking at US birth statistics last night and the number of births per month starts to rise dramatically in late May and peaks in September, then begins to decline. Not sure if "back to school" has much to do with it (remember, many couples are having a first child) but I suspect that colder weather and longer nights are prime factors.

Happy Birthday, Me!
Interesting. I checked the Home page before I posted and there was no mention of Chino. This morning there is mention of him. Must be related to you guys being a day ahead of us here in the USA.

Drained battery
unless you damaged the voltage regulator when jumping it. BTW, It would kinda help if we knew what car you are talking about.

Looking for a RHS 240Z mirror?
What do you mean by offset base? This question has been asked several times in the last year or two, and so far no one has come up with a specific part number for a 240Z Right Side Mirror, (that doesn't mean that there isn't one, but no one has come up with the info to post yet). I think that the regular LH mirror would look just fine on the right side of the car, once you rotated the mirror head (on the "ball" socketwithin the mirrorhead). Of course, you are going to have to drill some holes in your door for this or any mirror that you might find.

Windshield Glass -- foggy
Geez Dave, don't give them Waltons any bright ideas. I haven't checked it out completely, but I think that Bill and Melissa Gates make a lot more charitable donations through his/her foundation than the Walton Gang does. (or he gets better media coverage for what he/she does than the Walton's get). Yes, I do use Windows, and I did put a nickle or two in Bills pocket, once. It will be a long time before he gets anymore $$ from me, but I don't think his business has done as much damage to people all over the country as the Walton Gang. (JMO) BTW, I doubt you could teach me Linux. I'm sure that you know it very well, but I'm not that computer savvy. I know just enough about using Windows to be dangerous and it has taken me almost 8 years to learn that little.
