Dead Tach, Gauges and turn signals
Just because the relay clicks, it does not mean that your battery is OK, it takes a lot more power to drive the starter than it does to activate the relays. When battery cable connections are corroded, or a battery is partially drained it is common for the relays to click yet the starter not engage. But anyway the fusible link is the smaller wire that bridges between the starter and the wiring harness. It has a ring terminal on one end which is attached to the starter, and a plastic (nylon? whatever) clip that plugs into the wiring harness on the other end. It's about 6" long. (approx.)

exhaust smells...how to fix?
There are many past threads discussing this very common issue. In addition to the one mentioned above, a search using terms such as "fumes" and "exhaust" should yield lots of information.

Busted wipers.
Glad it's all working for you. The rainX Interior Anti Fog product SUCKS to high heaven, so don't bother with it. Regular RainX does indeed require regular application, otherwise at low speeds, the rain drops tend to not run off the windsheild fast enough.

Needed, firewall grommet
Will: You might want to post some measrements of that 72 plug. Ed indicated that the one he needs is for a 73, and he says that it is larger than the one from earlier models. But if you ever do make grommets for the 1972 240Z, please put me on the list as one who would definitely buy at least one of them.

Any Aussie members ever have stuff shipped from the US?
I have sold and shipped several items to Australia through eBay auctions If you are using the US Post Office, go to their website and you can find out what the cost would be for any type of shipping service (offered by the USPS) to any country in the world. All you need is the size and weight of the package.

Racing $$$
We'll have to agree to disagree. I don't see it as you do. Open Wheel racing has a future because of what Tony did? Look at the grandstands at ANY of his races (except for Texas) and you'll see far more empty seats than you do seats with butts in them (and No, the people aren't standing either). IRL is now experiencing the exact same cost issues as CART did with the engine mamnufacturers, and the same issues with "foreign talent". Yes, CART did wizz away obscene amounts of money in 2003 (and YES Chris Pook was in charge when it happened), but IMO he was the guy left holding the bag in his hand after previous management bungled the operation. Roger, Chip, and the other owners who bailed to IRL share in the blame since as owners they held seats on the board of directors and were part and parcel of the series when manufacturers were allowed to come in and go crazy with technology resulting in the high cost of competition. No doubt that Tony was looking to shore up the value of the Indy 500 for the Hulman family. Has he done it? Hell NO. It's still a shadow of it's former self. No war, huh? Seems to me I remember Tony the Jerk trying to reserve 25 starting positions in the Indy 500 for IRL teams and "allowing" the interlopers to scrap it out for the last 8 spots. That ended up not flying, but he sure as hell tried to get it off the ground. We don't have to worry about that happening now, as they were barely able to find 33 entrants able to qualify in the past 2 years. Most of the Open Wheel talent is STILL going to NAPCAR and elsewhere. What has he done for "open wheel racing from the ground up'? I'd really like to hear that one. Yes, the US 500 backfired on CART, absolutely no question about that. But, IMO their mistake was in not waiting a year or two or three before trying to go head to head with Indy. That time could have been used in getting their own house in order and getting firm commitments from the board members / teams and would have served CART well, however the greed of the owners (and the mistakes of those they hired to alledgedly run the business) are what put the bullet in CART's foot. Chris Pook let the gangrene travel to CART's heart and it nearly killed the patient. The IRL could very well face the same situation in the near future, since they have allowed Honda and Toyota to bring high technology and huge engine costs into the IRL. If/When they leave (it's already rumored that Toyota will bail once they get the OK to run Nextel Cup, and Chevy is heading out the door too) Tony may be knocking on doors looking for customer engines and funding teams through the backdoor like CART did, and when the engine manufacturers leave the advertising dollars that put the show on TV will disappear just as quickly. As for OWRS financial footing, the owners have lots of money. It remains to be seen if they will use it or not, and who knows if it would be used wisely. I'm not concerned with St. Pete, or Watkins Glen, or even Sonoma (although I would have LOVED to see CART in it's Glory years running The Glen). As you say....business decisions, pure and simple. Of course when the IRL was created it was touted as THE Open Wheel All Oval Racing Series for Americans. That story has faded away (conveniently) over the years. Sorry, this post turned out way longer than I intended. As I said, we'll have to agree to disagree. Last but not least (and you'll probably hate me for saying this, but.......) if it weren't for the Hulman Family fortune (which he inherited control of) Tony would be managing a Arco Gas Station and Mini-Mart. He's a wizz poor businessman. Always has been, always will be.

Racing $$$
I totally understand the life cycle reference that you've made, and I acknowledge that money does get in the way of maintaining good and close racing that can sustain itself over the long haul. The only thing that I diagree with is blaming it on the competitors who take advantage of what is allowed by the rules. IMO the real blame lies squarely at the feet of the sactioning body who creates and enforces the rules. Oh, there is one more thing I disagree about and that is the bit about "CART gets too expensive so the IRL is born." Tony George created the IRL because the money (and POWER) floating around wasn't going into HIS pocket. All his stories about creating a cost controlled form of open wheel racing, and an opportunity for young American (USAC) drivers have been proven to be nothing more than SMOKE. The engine manufacturers (and their cubic dollars) were welcomed with open arms, and Sarah Fisher (among others) sits on the sidelines, or trots off to NAPCAR just like Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Ryan Newman, et al. He continues to use his families money to prop up the IRL and continues to try to kill OWRS (nee CART) Whew, gotta stop before my blood pressure rises any further. Cheers,

Racing $$$
In rereading my quoted post I cannot imagine where you get the idea I was refering to "spending" money (in whatever form) when I said "TRY" (as in effort) But anyway, if I had the $$ to go all out (I don't), there is no reason I that shouldn't. If doing so helps (notice the word HELPS) someone leave you or anyone else in the dust......so be it. 2nd place is first loser, if someone isn't "trying" (theres that word again) to be fast (competitive), they don't belong out there. They should stick to doing track days which are plenty of fun. If the rich boys dominate the racing series, find another one where you are competitive and the use of "cubic dollars" is controlled by the rules. There are (at least in CA) plenty of options to choose from.

Leaded Race Fuel Still Available?
When I had my Hi-comp E88 head rebuilt by Dave Rebello (http://www.rebelloracing.com/ ) he recommended hardened Valve SEATS not guides to deal with unleaded gasoline. It's the seats, not the guides that get pounded upon.
-
Leaded fuel is OK to run on no catalytic cars! Race GAS :)
The post indicated low lead AV gas (as in Aviation gas). It's still available.

Looking for a brake booster
AFAIK, the answer is NO. Besides, there are special tools required to disassemble / reassemble the booster

help with setting timing
that is correct.

DynoMax Super Turbo
My exhaust system is very old and when it fails, I will be getting a Super Turbo Muffler as well. Probably will also have a resonator in the middle of the system. Definitely won't be going with a header. I'm satisfied with the OEM manifold, but I might have it sent out for Jet Hot coating, or I'll try a Do-It-Yourself coating.

strong gas scent
Even if the cam is causing fuel to go unburnt, there must be some reason that the smell of it is getting inside the cabin of your car. The doors (all 3), windows, floor, and other panels are supposed to seal well enough to keep what is outside out and what's inside in.

DynoMax Super Turbo
My current Z has a 2" dia. Monza style system on it, but a previous Z of mine had a 3" dia pipe system with a Chevy Corvair Turbo Muffler on it. IIRC, the inlet was in the center and the outlet was at the bottom. I have an Inquiry in to Dynomax about the correct P/N for a 240Z. We'll see if they respond. Meanwhile here is the catalog of Dynomax Super Turbo Mufflers. (as of the date of this post)

Add your interest for clear lenses!
No worries here, Enrique.

DynoMax Super Turbo
Gary: You may want to read these threads. Some people say that a 2-1/4" pipe is better than 2-1/2". My car has a 2" and I've had another 240Z with a 3" pipe system, never had any experience with in between sizes. Summit Racing seems to have some of the best prices. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6082&highlight=Dynomax+Super+Turbo http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9770&highlight=Dynomax+Super+Turbo

What should i replace while the engine is out?
You could use almost any kind of fuel filter, so long as it is designed for a carbureted car. (That is a low pressure fuel system) Just remember that there is an "in" and an "out" for most if not all of these filters, don't mix them up..

Yes Bob, That is the guy (Dennis). That "thing" looks like WAY too much trouble to deal with (not to mention the significant "goofy" factor)

strong gas scent
Tail light gaskets, and/or hatch sealing are (IMO) far more likely causes than your cam. 240Z hatches, even ones that aren't bent or tweaked are prone to allowing exhaust smell into the cabin.

winshield trim???
Not too long ago it was available from Nissan. Maybe it still is?

Busted wipers.
That information is not available in the manual. Hopefully you are able to find all of the parts. (especially the "C" clip that holds it all together) However.....................I have some pics that should help you. You MUST assemble this joint with everything oriented EXACTLY as it appears in the pictures or your wipers may not operate correctly. If you have further questions, ask.
