  1. Considering the labor involved, that price range isn't going to get you very good strut cartridges, IMO. You may want to check prices on whatever struts you want before setting your price range. You could probably get Monroe brand cheapy struts installed in that price range, but they aren't very good. JMO
  2. Actually, there are now at least two fer-sure ways to get the spindle pins out. The old Sawz-all method, and the Spindle Pin Removal Tool method. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14647&highlight=Spindle+Pin+Removal+Tool Link to Web Page of Manufacturer of Spindle Pin Tool
  3. That's what I thought. I knew that I had to remove the rod assembly from the gas pedal (couldn't get the grommet on from the engine bay) to complete the replacement of the grommet.
  4. Electronic what? What else has been done to the car? Brakes, Clutch, Heater, etc. Would need a lot more info on the car to make an informed answer. A well maintained 72 could easily be a daily driver. One that hasn't had wear items replaced, or has been neglected (other than being driven 2 a month) could be a problem as a daily driver.
  5. that may make you "unique" in your mind, but I don't think it means that "everyone knows it's your post without looking at the poster name". Most people probably don't care that it's "your" post any more (or less) than they care if it is anyone else's post.
  6. Well, I had to take one of the balls off of the linkage piece when I replaced the bellows shaped grommet on my linkage, and I don't recall specificly how it came off, but I thought that I unscrewed one end or the other. Anybody else remember how they replaced theirs????
  7. Doesn't the ball thread onto the rod?
  8. FWIW, The pump I bought from Motorsport Auto (aftermarket) was to outward appearances identical to the OEM unit. Made by same manufacturer, etc. They also appear on eBay from time to time. I haven't seen or heard of a repair kit, although if there is a kit, and it has the right parts icluded (the seals you need) it would be the way to go.
  9. Not necessarily. At one time I had oil lightly spraying out of a small hole (manufacturer provided) on the underside of the fuel pump. It caused a mess on the front of that side of the engine. The crankcase oil never smelled like gas (I have experienced that before, on another car, a Toyota) at all. Not sure how you sealed the pivot, but unless the seal is extremely flexible, and durable it's not likely to last. I don't know how expensive a fuel pump is in OZ, but you might still be needing one eventually. Like you said, best to keep an eye on it.

waynekarnes and I each bought sets of 14" X 7" Rewinds from Gabriel ("ggtyler" eBay auction id) Service was great, shipping cost was great. Weight of our wheels was stated as 13 lbs each. Light enough for my car!
  11. I have a set of dealer installed Appliance Slotted wheels and a set of dealer installed Anson Sprint wheels and there are noticable differences in the shape of the "slots" and other aspects of the wheels. I have no way of knowing for certain, but I think it's likely that different branded wheels were "produced" in one (contracted) foundry in Gardena, to similar (but slightly different) designs provided by the various wheel companies.

Geez, I would have expected Vintage Motorsport AND Barrett-Jackson to know the difference between a Z and a ZX.
  16. after living in the wonderful, clean, and protected Ohio environment all these years you probably already have cancer.
  17. Funny, he doesn't look like he weighs that much. Congratulations, Fred.
  18. Does anyone REALLY think dealers keep stuff like that for 30 years? If they did, do you REALLY think they'd be willing to expend the time and effort to rummage through all of it to find something for someone who ISN"T buying something? Does anyone even know if the "factory" (I just love that word!) even provided a "build sheet"? Remeber, Nissan isn't Chevrolet or Ford. They MAY () have done business in a different way.

  20. They can hardly be bothered to stock parts for us any longer. Doubt we'd get much cooperation from them.
  21. DOH! Guess I should have stopped watching TV while replying to the post. :stupid:
  22. Probably not.
  23. Are those WIRE wheels? It's really hard to tell from the distance and angle of that picture. To my eyes, they look like one of the versions of dealer installed MAG (Aluminum) wheels, which would not be chrome nor need rechroming. In any event, they are not a "factory" wheel and thus it's questionable if they belong on a "restoration".
  24. Possibly related to repairability. i.e. not having to replace the whole thing if only one corner of the car gets damaged.
  25. SURE! As Darrell Waltrip would say, "What's Not to Like?"
