non turbo to turbo swap! need lots of help.
If the trans from the Turbo car was a Borg Warner T5, and the trans from the non-Turbo car was a Nissan mfg'd trans, I believe that the d/s would be different and not compatible.

non turbo to turbo swap! need lots of help.
It sounds like your non-Turbo car originally came with an R180 Diff, and the car that your Turbo stuff came from had an R200 diff. If I had a choice, I stick with the Diff that was in the car that the Turbo stuff came from. JMO,

They are trying to total my car!
Usually when they total the car, you will have the option to "buy back" the car for some portion of the cash that was paid to you. The problem is when you accept the money, you have released your interest in the car to the insurance company. They (the insurance company) may allow you to buy back the car, but it is sold to you with a "Salvage" title. (Not a good thing, IMO) Fight them. In the USA, I don't think you can force them to repair a car that is worth less than the cost of repairs. If this was true there would be no need for agreed value insurance policies and companies like Haggerty. (at least I don't know of anyone who has been able to do so. It really doesn't make any business sense for that to be allowed and you know how powerful the insurance companies are.)

Found a small leak today
Depends on whether the leak is from the threads, or a defect in the switch casing. It costs little to try some sealant on the threads.

restoration help
Best way to repair small rust holes is to weld in new metal to replace the missing (rusted) metal. There are other guys here with far more knowledge of this subject, so I'll let them advise you in more detail.

restoration help
Wheels, mirrors, and "rear rail system off the bumper" are quite often added as aftermarket parts. There was only one "stock" mirror, but dealer sold other mirrors and even back then people tended to personalize their cars with aftermarket parts. There was only one version of 240Z available in the USA.

dash repair
IMO it looks like $^!# and the cracks will still enlarge. You must be joking. :stupid:

dash repair
cracks cannot be repaired (at least not so they aren't visible), they will continue to grow as the underlying foam and vinyl shrinks and gets more brittle due to age and exposure to UV and vibration. Basiclally you have two choices (that I'm aware of) install a Dash Cap, or restore the dash, Read the web site and it explains what they do.

The $3500 GT
That's great Allan Thanks

Half-shaft disassembly
I don't remember any problems getting them back together, but then again, I didin't have any problem getting them apart either. Guess I was lucky on both ends of the J.O.B. Since I have a spare set, maybe I should rebuild them one of these days before I have an immediate need for them. It's not like it costs much at all to do them.

Half-shaft disassembly
Glad you go them out Mark. If your hands aren't too greasy, please snap a few pictures & post for our future references. Your pics of the Rear Wheel Bearings were great and will be a big help to people doing that job in the future. The problem I remember most from doing this job is getting the new boots onto the outer part of the half shafts without splitting them. If you find a good method, share it with us.

Half-shaft disassembly
Mark: I know that I didn't have to open both ends of the half shaft when I did mine. (or at least if I did, I have no recollection of it)

alternator voltage output
Yeah, one usually takes out the other. I don't think I've ever been lucky enough to get away with replacing just one of these two components.
-
Half-shaft disassembly
Mark: I did this, but it was a long time ago. I don't remember a second circlip. I think that I just had to pull (somewhat hard) and wiggle the parts in a circlular motion while pulling to get them to slide apart. Good Luck & let us know how it goes. PS Don't loose any balls or spacers!

Trip Odo cable is all bound up
I don't know what they used to say about a Whopper. Have an old Honda Trail 90 in the garage, but no sheep. I figured there are plenty of lonely Aussies and New Zealanders out there, so why deprive one of them of some companionship. Here's your pics. Needs a little DeoxiT

I'm not sure I should admit this, but..............I didn't have many complaints about my Pinto. Maybe because it had the German Ford 2.0L engine? I dunno, Anyway, it ran really good for an econo-shitbox car. Sure it wasn't a Z, but I didn't expect one for the $2300 I laid out for it. However, it was the only Ford I've ever owned. I'm going back out to the garage now, I have some unfinished business out there, He,He,He.

Anyone else have a gear in good condition for a 240Z antenna? If so, please contact me via PM. Thank you.

From a real dumb ass
Sounds like you need to borrow some of stuff from the "other" side of my garage. Too much tension.............
