  1. I think it was a case of the car having been worked on and someone didn't tighten the bolt properly. I don't really remember the details. If yours was just crusty bits that "appeared" to be scratches, but when you cleaned it up there were no (NONE) scratches, I think Inf has the answer. I have noticed similar markings on valve covers of mine, but all they were was crusty bits in a pattern on the valve cover (i.e. NO actual scratches upon further examination). Just to be safe, put a torque wrench on it and confirm that the bolt is tight. Once it's tight it should stay there. AFAIK, there is no periodic tightening necessary. At least I've never done it.
  2. I think Inf is on the right track here, but.........It is not unheard of for the sprocket to contact the Valve Cover. Usually the cause is the bolt into the camshaft backing out. One of our members had that happen a couple of years ago. Fairly catastrophic as I recall.
  3. I am assuming that you are referring to the FRONT suspension bushings, right? Have you got the suspension disassembled yet? I bought my bushings from MSA (packaging didn't specify the brand) and the only bushings that required the OEM "outer sleeves" to remain in the car was the Moustache Bar (rear Diff mount). Front Suspension bushings and Rear Suspension (outer bushings) all required the sleeves to be removed.
  4. I have it on good authority that this is Gary's favorite country song: mms://tonwm.fplive.net/ton/music/300k/u_e_notorious_itshard300.asf ("The Notorious Cherrybombs" is the band)

I thought the PDK Dash was CF? Isn't that what Ron Carter posted in the "other" thread?

The thread linked below contains info and links that should answer this question definitively. There is a lot of misinformation out there, but when the Chief Designer for the S30 provides the answer it should be accepted as the REAL answer. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15600&highlight=Steering+Plastic+Wood See posts # 4, #12, and #14 in particular
  7. MSA should be able to tell you. Call them and ask.
  8. ALL of this is quite true, however the absence of a VIN in his (or any) car sale auction is suspicious (but NOT necessarily MALicious) to me. Always has been, always will be. Maybe it's just me but I expect that to be divulged prior to the sale of any car. Currently the auction indicates "rare factory authorized a/c" and claims mileage to be "100". Pic of the Right Rear Quarter Panel shows considerable body rot that he doesn't mention in the description. Oh BTW, as a point of reference; ZHome.com indicates that the first 240Z's with Auto trans were "produced" in 08/70 and last of the Series 1 body style was "produced" in 01/71 Z POLICE, what do you think about this car?
  9. Here is an image of the lower portion of Page 2 of the August 1971 dated Nissan TSB Vol. #148 that confirms the simple names as indicated by Carl Beck
  10. Gary: Just ask him for the VIN. Tell him you are interested and want to do a CARFAX check on it or that you want to confirm there are no leins against it. Of course, you and I know that you can't get a CARFAX for so old of a car, but he may not know.

  12. Definitely not a Z mat. I've attached scans of a 1972 Nissan Accessories Brochure borrowed from Carl Beck's ZHome.com website
  13. I agree. Leak could be (hope so) from the vent hose on that side of the tank. Better the leak be from the hose than a hole in the tank
  14. I know nothing of the specifics regarding Weber Carbs making or not making these carbs, but.............. Don't believe everything stated by sellers on eBay, They have their own agenda (selling what they offer) Nowhere in the ad does it say that Weber has stopped production permanently, so even if they did in fact stop production it might be due to the strike you mentioned and if so it's likely they will be back in production when the strike is over. This is the sort of situation where the best information will come from Weber. They, or a distributor must have a website that can be contacted for reliable information. One point of clarification, they (the carbs in that auction) are NOT "genuine Webers". They are OER's version of the Weber carb, asnd they happen to use Weber jetting. No claim is made that any other "Weber" parts can be used in these carbs.
  15. Mike sells the Z Car Parts Microfiche on CD-ROM. It has a lot of exploded views. Courtesy Nissan sells the actual Factory Service Manuals on CD-ROM Both are quite useful, IMO
  16. That's what I was afraid of.
  17. Does anyone know where you can get Bilstein struts for a 240Z? I've contacted many distrubutors and have been told that Bilstein struts for 240Z's are no longer made/sold. I had them on one of my previous 240Z's and absolutely LOVED them.
  18. ......and they have been smoking too much.
  19. Woa, easy now. My post wasn't directed at correcting you or anyone. No one mentioned Libre as being the name of the wheels commonly found on on 510's until I did. I was adding info to the thread. No one said you did or didn't know the answers. EDITTED due to misunderstanding..
  20. I beleive the ones seen on 510's in the US are Libre's. They look similar to the ones Eric is asking about. but are obviously not exactly the same
  21. It may have the same body, but (even in stock form) it's really quite different from the B210 we received in the USA. You guys should read the the previous thread about the 140Z http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10724&highlight=140z

If you do use the Painless kit, don't just crimp the new terminals onto the wiring. SOLDER all of the connections and cover with shrink-tube insulation. It adds work to the installation, but crimped on terminals are trouble just waiting to happen. (again)
  24. or Kano Labs "Kroil"
  25. You must have a DSL line. With a Dial Up connection it's FRICKIN impossible!!
