Steering coupler
When I replaced mine, I got the bolts loose, then tied off the wheel and it worked OK. The best way to do this is when you have the engine out of the car. You can sit in the engine bay and do it at leisure.

Steering coupler
I suggest using some cord to tie the steering wheel so that it cannot rotate as you disconnect the coupler.

schematic for hoses on stock air box?
One small nipple on the air box goes to the "Flow Guide Valve" that mounts on the inner fender below the coil. (you may have tossed that since you also tossed the air pump. Check your FSM "Emissions" dection for picture of it and diagram of connections. If you don't have the Flow Guide Valve, plug the nipple on the carb air box.

How much $$ have you spent on your Z ?
On my previous Z (rebuild completed in 1982) the total was over $10K For my current Z, I save my receipts but will not add up the costs. Still remember the quesy feeling I had when I did it in 82. I have collected a lot of parts that have yet to make it onto the car. Someday.............................

A day at the wreckers
Hi David: I did go down there and I snagged a few parts off of it. I didn't get everything I wanted due to lack of funds, and some parts were already gone. When I left the interior panels, etc were still there.

The only pic I see is a Z Roadster conversion w/ White Stripes on hood. It is the ZCAR.com "Z of the Month" and not related to the classified ad.

A day at the wreckers
Yes Rob, the Parts Microfiche sold by Mike is completely different from an FSM. The Parts Microfiche CD contains images of the actual microfiche that the parts guy uses to look up parts. It has the part numbers, and exploded diagrams of the car systems etc. It does not have assembly or disassembly information. The CD is a great resource to have. It could be that the carpets were not in place when the cars were shipped, and that was part of dealer prep.

A day at the wreckers
Hi Rob: I know what you mean about the job market here. Some other folks say they have them in 240Z's, so I don't know. I'm wondering if dealers pulled them out or something. My first Z was a 73 and I bought it from the original owner after he had it less than a year and it didn't have them so I'm at a loss to explain why I never had them in my cars or saw them in other Z's. The fiche does list different p/n's for seat mechanism covers.

getting a 71 240z
Very Correct! When people install a L28 (280Z engine) into a 240Z, they will many times just use carburetors instead of transplanting all of the ECU and associated wiring, sensors, etc into the 240Z.

Installing Headers
Correct, the same studs and bolts secure both intake and Exhaust manifold/header to the engine.

A day at the wreckers
What suprises me is that I've never seen these items on any of my Z's and I've owned 240Z's since the early 70's, and they aren't listed in the Parts Microfiche either.

Are you seeing pictures of the cars? That link goes to a classified ad without pictures when I use it. Pictures would be nice to see.

70-71 Choke plate
Wonder how much $$$ that "chintzy" little trophy is going to cost him to acquire? It's part acquisitions like this (among other things) that run up the price of a "restoration" to the point where an owner can never recoup his costs.

280Z sold for 5 dollars today
Pretty much the same story here in SF Bay Area.

A day at the wreckers
Wonder why these parts are not in the microfiche? None of my Z's have had them, and I've never missed them either. Carpets stay put just fine without them......and IMO they look cheesy. Shouldn't (don't) need something that big and bright just to hold carpets in place.

Nissan 35th Anniversay 350Z
They need 30th Anniversary badges if they're selling this toad in the USA, use them 35th anniversay badges somewhere else.

What is your desktop wallpaper?
No Sweat, It went over my head also when Chris posted. I have a slide show for my Screensaver, got it from an F1 Racing website. Lots of pictures of 2002 Monaco GP

What is your desktop wallpaper?
We're talking "Desktop" in this thread (see Subject Line), not "Screensaver". Don't think that will work for a Desktop.
