Vaccume problems with my 260z
Just because the average moron on the street doesn't know of a $2 bill, DOES NOT mean that it doesn't exist. Your statement "Such stuff from Mr. Scanlon that he doesn't even know there's no such thing as a $2 bill." was clearly stated and quite specific, and can only be taken one way......As a false statement, no matter what you meant to type. I believe that you'd find that if no one asked those questions..............no one will miss them. There is a reason no one else asks them. They are mostly LAME. EDIT, I forgot to mention, respond only for your own benefit. I'm unsubscribing from this thread. Over and OUT!

Garage Design
From my experience (YMMV) As nice a having a wide yard is, having a wide garage is better (to a point) for 2 reasons: 1. It makes it easier to work on cars inside the garage. 2. Less yard maintenance (mowing, weeding, etc) When i had a 3 car garage, I found it to be ideal for parking one car (transportation), and doing a major rebuild on another car (room to work on it, parts storage, good size work benches, shelves, etc.) For me, I'd go for more Width over more Depth almost anyday. More height is also preferable

What is a "LZ22S"? Need a set of pistons from this Nissan!
No, a link to it was posted on this site a long time ago. If you'll notice, it came from an Australian website (as he mentioned). Since there aren't too many of these L6 specific programs out there, IMO it's likely that it MAY be the one he was using. (we'll never know unless he answers your query)

No Brake Lights! Have A Fix-It Ticket!!!
Sorry, but that has got to be the most lame suggestion I've heard in a long time. :stupid" If this is to be done, just make sure the round is pointing toward the person who installed it. That way we can read about him in the Darwin Awards.

It worked fine when I posted it a year ago. Through the magic of the internet, some threads have a way of disappearing over time. Oh well, we'll survive without it.

power antenna on ebay
Yes, but is this one any good? The seller says it is, but that's his job. It could be a P.O.S. Anyone going to volunteer to test one?

Grounding Kit with "stabilizer"
There is no doubt that proper grounding is important, but IMO, if the connectors and grounds built into the system by Nissan are properly maintained (meaning they are kept clean and uncorroded, and secure), then this product is of minimal value. I make it a point to not do business with eBay sellers who charge shipping costs that are easily double what they should be. I expect shipping fees to be reasonably close to the actual cost. Profit should be built into the price of the product. That's just the way I do business.

I need to know if I'm headed in the correct direction
OK. I was mentioning the Crane system because I had major problems like you are describing, with the Crane XR700 in my car being the cause. It would DIE on the freeway, in intersections, everywhere. Then it would start up again about10 minutes later. It was the Power transister in the Crane Ignition module.

I need to know if I'm headed in the correct direction
Do you have the normal 240Z points type distributor in the car? No Mods (like adding the Crane XR700 Ignition for instance)?

power antenna on ebay
Price is definitely good. I'd be curious how it performs as well. Mast is only 31", I thought that 39" was optimum for FM reception. Anyone know for sure? He says it operates w/ radio On/Off switch. Not sure if that is good or bad. What if you have a cassette or CD player? Does it rise when you play, CD/cassette?

Looking for a brake booster
No, the Master Brake Cylinders on all 240Z's are NOT the same. 70-71 used one type, and 72-76 used a different type. The reservoirs (and valving inside the MBC) for the Front and Rear brake circuits are reversed (from the earlier version) on the 72-76 version. If someone switches to the newer version, they must carefully rebend the fluid lines that connect to the MBC to make sure the correct reservior (and valving inside the MBC) services the correct circuit. The Front Calipers need more fluid (relative to the RWC) to operate. It is important for proper brake function.

No Brake Lights! Have A Fix-It Ticket!!!
In my county (Alameda in Nor Cal), when you show up at 8AM you sign up for court(they will sign up around the first 50 people in line, the rest can wait outside of court to see if there is enough time at the end of the day to be seen) then you wait in the courtroom for your case to be called. At that point you have a choice: 1. You can plead guilty with an explanation (and proof of correction if necessary), and hope for a fee reduction. OR 2. Fight the ticket which will cause your case to be postponed to another day so that the cop can be notified to appear (he WILL show up most times) and you will loose most of 2 days of work (plus whatever fines you may or may not end up with). It's as much REVENUE GENERATION as it is LAW ENFORCEMENT around here.

VIN's and model/year
Yes, I can confirm that for you. My original 11/71 production steering knuckles work with the currently available balljoints. As posted earlier, the change occurred sometime in the 1970 (or possibly early 71) timeframe. I believe that it was 09/71 that marked the addition of the retactable belt pockets. My 11/71 Z has pockets w/ non-retractable original belts installed. The retractable belts became a requirement for of the Motor Vehicle Safety Standards in the US beginning in 01/72 production from what I've read and seen in cars. Zhome.com info about this is HERE (see Note #4)

When did the balljoints change for early Z's?
Hi Marty: I think it may have been both parts (steering knuckles and ball joints) that changed. The reason I say this (in addition to a faint memory of it) is that the MSA catalog suggests that owners of 1970 call to speak to an associate in regards to both parts. For tie-rod ends they mention only one part, which may be the newer type.

When did the balljoints change for early Z's?
I believe that it was sometime in the 1970 mfg year that the changed. I do know for sure that my 71, 72, and 73 model 240Z's owned over the past 30 years all came with the same steering knuckles, which are still available through MSA, and (I believe) Nissan.

VIN's and model/year
My 11/71 production date (1972 titled) 240Z came with non-retractable, but WITH shoulder (3 point) belts.

VIN's and model/year
It appears to me athat your car was built in Mar/Apr 1973 and would definitely be a 73 model 240Z. http://zhome.com/IZCC/ZRegisters/classic.htm From data gathered from actual cars, reported by actual owners, The 240Z Register at ZHome.com reports: VIN: HLS30 150630 Production Date:03 / 73 Color Body /Int :901 Silver / Black Orig.Eng.Number:L24-159996 IZCC Member#:Enid, OK, USA Comments: Father purchased the car new Date Registered: 3 Feb. 00 VIN:HLS30 157327 Production Date:? / 73 Color Body /Int :Blue / White Orig.Eng.Number:L24 169047 City/State/Cntry:Atlanta, GA,USA Comments:Has A/T Date Registered:5 May 00 VIN:HLS30 157534 Production Date:04/73 Color Body /Int :Silver / Black Orig.Eng.Number:L24-169135 City/State/Cntry:Rochester, NY USA Date Registered:22 Mar. 99

Grounding Kit with "stabilizer"
I think his shipping price of $20 is a joke regardless of what his product will do, or not do. Due to his "packing profit into the deal" with the overpriced shipping, I wouldn't buy a beer from him.

Not pickin on you, Bill but........ For your own safety, you gotta learn to tell the difference between 62mph and 45mph, and the type of street that has different the speed limits. Did the other car get a ticket too?
