Great pointers from jmortenson. No, I don't set out cones. I don't prefess to be a "real" autoX'er anymore (haven't competed in years), but it is all about car control and a good part of that is being completely familiar with how your car responds to the driver inputs.

My local County Fair property has a nice large paved parking lot. I can usually get a 1/2 hour of practice in before someone hears the tires squealing and comes to see what is going on. Then there are the times I go out in the country in early mornings and exercise the car and myself (at less than 10/10ths of course).

Not disputing what you found on your car, Andrew; but there are different tie-rod ends for 1970 Z's. This can be verified in the Nissan microfiche. Some owners when faced with replacing tie-rods but not wanting to replace steering knuckles and ball joints used a tapered reamer to enlarge the hole in the front of the steering knuckles to accept the later tie-rods.

I've had difficullties D/L .pdf files here previously. Haven't figured it out, but anyway, I used IE6 to D/L this particular .pdf file yesterday and it worked for me.

T, I know that is so. Maybe you looked in the wrong places, but Brasso is as common as.......well, Brass and/or any other metal you'd care to polish.

Yes, they are. From what I've heard they are almost impossible to find anymore. It has been discussed somewhere on this website (several times) recently EDIT: It is the diameter of the posts on the Ball-joints and Tie-rod ends that are smaller. This means that the corresponding holes in the steering knuckles are smaller (on the 70 versions) than on the 71-73 versions. One way or another, the tie-rods, ball joints and steering knuckles all need to match.

Hmmm, now I'm annoyed that I bought OEM 240Z D/S bolts, nuts, and washers on eBay a few months ago. I'll have to add those bolts/nuts to my JY shopping list.

Well, since no one asked where Brasso could be purchased (AND it had already been stated that it was available in the housewares section of a store IMO it provided basically nothing new. (except to those who were too lazy to read it the first time it was posted) To morons everywhere......you don't have to go to Wal-Mart to find Brasso. It is sold in many, many stores that sell household cleaners, polishes, etc. Dave: I didn't know that YOU considered yourself a moron. I'm Sorry to hear that. I gave you credit for more than that.

Never seen bolts with heads like that on any of my 240Z's, but the idea makes sense.
