Good to hear you are making progress, Alex. Looks pretty good so far. Keep up the good work and you'll be driving it in no time.
  2. It makes a great organ donor for your 71 and/or 74 real Z cars, too!
  3. I'm pretty sure mine take 12mm wrench

No, they are the same as the regular bumper. Only difference is the holes to mount the rubber strips are not drilled into the "euro" bumper.
  5. I can't help you with the sizes, Gary. My car is across town waiting for some more work and a new battery. But, I'll mention that the nuts that hold the carbs to the studs on the manifold do not appear to be "full-height" standard nuts. That is they are not as thick (tall) as normal nuts. EDIT: Come to think of it, I'm *pretty sure* they are 8mm X 1.25 (same as the manifold to head nuts/bolts
  6. It's not the color, it's the BUG that looks like $hit. (good statement Vicky!)
  7. To know the diameter of the wheels, all you have to do is read the size info printed on the sidewall of the tire. Your tires MUST match the diameter of the wheel. If the tires have 195/70 X 13 printed on them then you MUST have 13" wheels. A given "style" of wheel is commonly manufactured in several different sizes (diameters) so you can't go by pictures. My past experience with dealer installed slotted mags, is that you can't go much larger that 195/70 X 14 without worrying about the tires rubbing the wheelwells (usually the rear wheelwells are the most likely to be rubbed). If you want slotted wheels, your best bet is to find someone (that you can trust) with used wheels to sell that were actually on a Z. Otherwise you are taking a risk of them not fitting. You live in TX, right? There are some big Z clubs in your state that might have a member with Z wheels to sell.
  8. MSA sells seat foam also. IIRC at about $80 per seat. To my knowledge all of the seat foam out there for sale is manufactured by "Seatz". (a company in Los Angeles). Seatz Mfg. 1575 W. Broadway Anaheim, CA 800/235-8974 I think there has been several threads about replacement seats in the past. Might try a search.

In my experience, I'd say there is a good chance the coil WIRE is bad. I've had that problem with an occasional spark plug wire in the past. Replaced the wire and the problem went away (everytime).

So then if we know the VB data to be wrong, do we know what is correct? If so, what is it, and where is it found?

    Exactly how I feel.
  12. Wasn't all of this covered in another thread a month ago, Brandy? 13 inch rims are WRONG for your car.
  13. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz (that's me snoring)

This also assumes that there were no gaps in VIN's used. Which IMO is a HUGE assumption. I'm not picking on anyone here, I just used the above quote because it provides the most info.
  15. Check fusible links. Have you looked under the dash for evidence of a hacked wiring harness? How did you test fuses? Did you remove them all and test them? I'd replace them anyway, What's $3? Looking for used parts? Check the Tech Articles forum. Thers's a thread with a list of USED parts sellers there.

I believe that I gave my point of view on this, but here it is again: Whatever Nissan considers an acceptable (supercedure) part doesn't matter at all ! ! ! What determines the gain or loss in value is the marketplace. What the hell does my opinion (or any other individual persons opinion) have to do what what the value is? If the fact that Nissan supercedes a part to another retains the value of a car, then why do people pay $1300 for "D" wheel covers when they could get "Z" covers for a lot less? Same for the little plastic latch piece for the Inspection Doors that sold for $250. Why not just buy later Inspection doors for $50 a set and call it a day? How about the Choke handle? The console? Steering wheel (with or without cutouts)? What about Hatch glass? Is glass with a demister an acceptable replacement part of the early glass without demister? It would certainly lose points in a competition, and IMO would reduce the legitimacy of the car as an "original" 1970 240Z. As for ZCCA, a car that is graded highly (in STOCK class) will be more valuable than one that is graded lower (in the same class). Why? 1. Because there are so few similar cars in existance. 2. Because the "correct" parts that made up the car are so hard to find and expensive. Isn't the ZCAA judging criteria the acknowledged standard for Z cars in the USA? If not what is? Or are you saying that there is no standard, and thus the ZCAA and everyone else who judges Z cars are not legitimate? IMO the answer to the poll is obvious to anyone who shops for an "original" Z car, or understands the meaning of "restored" as defined in the dictionary, and in ZCCA judging.
  17. Yes. Also some of the guys (non-family members) at O.C.C. and "real world" emplyees also.

"catalytic" converter a "cadillactic" converter would only be fitted to a Cadillac. (www.cadillac.com)
  19. All quite true. but I'll add that many good and talented people also get much accomplished inspite of the Dr. Evil's and #2's of the world.

I'm in this catagory. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Now with that said, authentic is authentic. Period. Terms like "replaced by parts" , "make do parts", "accepted parts" simply muddy the waters as they are not defined by any widely accepted description. Accepted by WHO? Me? You? the guy next door? billramsey2002? There IS a Z specific standard.....for a car to be an "authentic" 19XX Z, it must be fitted with the exact type (version) of Nissan OEM parts that it would have had when it left the FACTORY. Period. Just because a mirror from a Maxima will fit on the car, does not make it an "authentic" part. HLS30-00026, if fitted with a Hatch glass with horizontal demister elements would NOT be "authentic". Nor would a 1971 240Z that should have vertical demister lines be authentic if retro-fitted with a hatch glass with horizontal lines. As for "Elephant" oil, if it can be determined (without the use of sophisticated scientific equipment) that the oil in the crankcase is other than "Elephant brand", then for all intents and purposes the car would be inauthentic. Want to see if "factory interchanged parts" hurts the authenticity of a car, take a car to a ZCCA event and enter it in the STOCK class. Ya'll will find out quickly enough!
  21. Duane probably devloped his "A-Holiness" as a defense mechanism due to working for the Grand Poo-Bah of A-Hole's (Boyd) Talented, YES, but Boyd's still as big an A-Hole as you are likely to find in the Western Hemisphere.
  22. You do understand that there is a big difference between "steal" and "steel", right? THAT is what's funny!

Sorry Will, I got the instructions, and the box; but the "part" seems lost in transit. I don't know if he has to put it in thread, though I suspect he does have to put it on the Home page.
