No he doesn't (IMO). The 71 Z that I used to own had one, same with the 73 I used to own, and the 72 I now own.

The ones VB sells are Precision Replacement Parts (PRP) brand. I think the ones from Z Specialties are the same PRP brand also. I haven't seen any other brand of weatherseals for Z's (except OEM).

I can't help you except to point out that there is no wiper motor relay on a 72 (unless it is built into the motor / wiper drive gears. None shown on the schematic, and I didn't see one in my car either. If you get answers to your questions, please post them as I'm sure others will be interested in doing this job.

Yeah, they were available in lots of places a long time ago, but are very hard to find now. Some dealers sold them as an add-ons, and I bought some at a Tire/Wheel shop in the Bay Area, CA back in the mid 70's also. It took me 2 years on eBay to get enough parts and pieces to make up 2 good sets of them. Now I can't bear to part with any of them.

Why is there any waiting at all? Haven't you reported this to the police? The owner of the company? anyone? Today, on the truck, there was (most likely) evidence of contact with your car. Tomorrow, it'll probably be gone. Any witnesses?

I think we are in basic agreement. I'm not pounding on my grease caps either, and I don't want to loose caps at speed on the highway/roadway either. Maybe I'll look for some "spinners" (simulated knockoffs) and see what I can find that might fit. I have plenty of time to search before I have to make any decisions.

If you nbow "right-click" on the "thumbnail" in the first post and select "Properties", you'll see that it is only "bytes" in size and is basically just the outline with no image. Somehow the image is gone, anyway If the housing to that mirror is plastic, then it most likely IS the one sold by MSA. Yes, the larger hole in the door would have been for the OEM mirror. I have those mirrors on my 72 (no doubt from the P.O.) but I don't like mine at all. They vibrate and don't stay adjusted, so I have a couple sets of the old school metal housed aftermarket mirrors with the adjustable glass within the housings that I collected on eBay. I rebuilt them, and they are just waiting to get installed when I get around to bodywork.

Why not do one now, so we can see what you're talking about?

Ugh, so they are permanently stuck on the wheels? I'm looking to avoid doing that, but thanks anyway for the description. Seems that would make replacing tires or having new tires balanced on the wheels a major problem without sacrificing the caps and starting all over again.

Why not just do a standard "attachment" of a picture of the mirror to the post?

I'd definitely oil exposed bare metal area's. If you bag the block, be sure to put in desicant, otherwise moisture will condense out of the air and F@%*-UP your bare metal area's. It would be worse than leaving the block un-bagged.

Yes, there is a rebound stop in the upper spring seats of 240Z's. The rear struts will not have bearings (I think there is a spacer instead), but the front struts will have bearings.

Larry: Any chance you could post a picture of the grinding that needed to be done on those caps to make them fit? I have a set of Konigs (Rewinds) and will need to get some center caps to fit. Thanks in advance, Carl

Thank you, George. So if I'm understandin you correctly, there are no alterations to the stock Z wiring harness, it's all about not using the "T" connector on the harness, and not using the VR connector on the harness. No Cuts, No Splices. Only adding a separate wire from Alt to bat if desired.

That's a good idea too. If you have to remove the sensor, be very careful, steel threads in the fitting, are threading into an aluminium housing. Easy to ruin one, the other, or both.

What does this mean/ What "wiring" had to be done? Cut and replace connectors? What are the specifics?

SOunds like either the connector is loose (squeeze it gently to make certain it's secure to the sending unit) or the wire is broken (less likely). Other possiblity is the sending unit is bad, but I'd expect it to fail completely, not intermittantly.

There are two different switches (at least) for 240Z. The main difference is the wiring harnesses & connectors attached to the switches. My MSA catalog shows 2 switches: 45-4070 for 70-71 $78.05 45-4071 for 72-73 $114.75

I have never heard of that designation for an L6 cylinder head. Are you sure? Exactly where are you seeing this on the head?

Maybe all this hand wringing should be directed to the people who can do something about it........ABC, ESPN, etc. Remember they play to the lowest common denominator (i.e. the idiot who watches their broadcast) who is not necessarily a race fan in the true sense of the word(s).
