  1. Simple. Because it ignores fact that "accidents" do happen. Whether or not someone intends for them to happen. You can't tell someone to "don't get caught or kill anyone doing it" and expect that "advice" to have any real impact on the occurance of accidents, and dangerous situations that caused these laws to be put in place.
  2. You may not like the "legal advice" (frankly, I don't care if you or anyone does), but it is correct information. Your advice to " Do whatever you want with your stereo system. Just don't get caught or kill anyone doing it." sounds like something a 14 yr old would say. :stupid:
  3. I don't know if welding would bother the keyway and Woodruff keys, but I would think that it would play hell with the balance of the unit.
  4. BTW, Look in the Tech Articles forum for a thread called "Used Z Parts Sellers" (or something like that) You might want to search for a used stock pulley.
  5. I haven't experienced it myself, but I have heard of other people who have experienced it. When it happens, your radiator is instant TOAST. I don't mean just it's damaged, I mean it's DESTROYED. Other components up front can be damaged as well. (Alt, Water Pump, etc) It all depends on the trajectory of the pieces as it comes apart. Quoting Dirty Harry, "Do you feel lucky?
  6. ...........and Mohammed
  7. Engines with similar displacement and design, making similar HP *should* (in therory) have similar fuel requirements so I would think that both pumps are likely to "pump" the same volume. Unless, maybe the 260C has a lower HP version of the L26? What casting # is on the 260C head? Perhaps the supplier of pumps to Nissan changed the mounting plate design for some reason. It would seem to me that the 3 hole mount would be more sturdy than the 2 hole mount.

Like many parts on 72's; it has probably been superceded to another grommet that fits the hole in the firewall but is not identical to the original. Ed, Do you have a good picture of the one you got? For reference. The grommet on my car has seen better days.
  9. What I was trying to say was that I don't think it is meant to be "open". That it only becomes "open" when something inside the pump has failed. Similar to the hole on the underside of the water pump snout. (the one that weeps water when the water pump shaft seal has failed)
  10. Yes. but remember the fumps mount on the HEAD. IMO, the hole in the head (for the actuator arm of the pump) is simply milled to a different size for applications using one or the other pump. No reason for the "BLOCK" to be any different. Why the difference,.......I don't know. Curious just like you. At least, that's the way I see it.
  11. Andrew: I don't know what he used, but I used but I used Textured Paint (sometimes labeled as Wrinkle Paint) available at all of the Kragen (CSK) stores arround here. The paint I used in between the ribs was regualr VHT Semi-Gloss Black paint. I polished the ribs and letters first, then masked them & painted the area between the ribs. Next, I masked the entire area between the ribs and applied the Textured paint to the rest of the V.C. Lots of cleaning of the V.C. before any paint gets laid down.
  12. Every Z car pump I've ever had has had the hole you are referring to. Oil only comes out of it when a seal (or diaphragm) inside has failed, letting pressure (oil and air) from the engine into parts of the pump where it is not meant to be.
  13. Hopefully you got ALL of the stripper out of the Valve Cover (including any that seeped under the metal plate covering the back 1/2 of the cover) cause it is extremely caustic stuff and would EAT any seals it comes in contact with in a heartbeat.
  14. Looks like mine. Textured paint, regular paint, & polished ribs and letters. Next time I'm going to have mine Powder-Coated in the same style.
  15. I don't understand how the difference in height of pumps means there is (or could be) different blocks?
  16. 1. Usually things like that are meant to allow pressures to be relieved 2. No, it's supposed to be a hole.

Attention "Homeland Security" we have a terrorist sighting!
  18. Nope, Not interested. So does McDonald's, but that doesn't make it Gourmet Food.

    or a Soap-Box Derby racer.
  20. Here's a couple of prices for you. You might be able to find the parts cheaper somewhere else, but maybe not. Keep in mind that you'd likely end up spending more due to things breaking or discovering other things that need replacement as th job unfolds. http://www.zcarparts.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=PSDC02B http://www.zcarparts.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=PSDC02A FWIW, I find it easier to drop the entire suspension to do this kind of work, some others prefer not to.
  21. Naw, NAPCAR dropped ESPN like a smelly turd when Rupert M. and NBC/TBS waved all that money in their face. ESPN carried almost all of the NAPCAR races for well over a decade, then got booted out the backdoor after they helped (greatly, IMO) make NAPCAR the 1200 lb gorilla that they are today.
  22. You might be able to do that. It's worth inquiring. Only problem I see is that most reputable shops (in my area) either won't use parts you bring them, or they won't warranty the work installing them. Reason? Because shops make money when they purchase parts to install on a customer's car. If you have time, tools and a friend to help you learn, this is a job you could do yourself. This way your budget goes a lot further.

I don't think anyone cares anymore. The guy seems determined to chop it up and priced it out of reality when he posted it on eBay. Bet it's a goner.
  24. I believe that Motorsport Auto in Orange, CA now has them for sale. $$$$ (at least I was told they did) Occasionally used ones appear on eBay.
  25. Isn't SPEED TV owned by NEWSCORP (Rupert Murdoch) and NAPCAR? Seems to me that it is run with a heavy slant towards NAPCAR in every respect. Interesting that they don't bother to list Michael Schumacher (he's NOT my favorite, but for christ-sake he's a 7-Time World Champion!) FWIW, Fans have had the opportunity to voice their opinions all year long. (not that it matters much when the fans have only 1 out of the 19 votes that will determine the winner) From SPEEDTV Website: ".................. you, the fans, can help us decide the winner of the award by casting your vote right here for the driver you feel most deserves recognition for each quarter of the 2004 season. The award encompasses all racing platforms including NASCAR, Champ Car, IRL, NHRA, SCCA, World of Outlaws and Sports Cars. In its 38th year the DRIVER OF THE YEAR Award will be determined by an independent vote of an 18-member panel of blue ribbon auto racing journalists and broadcasters and one vote based on a cumulative tally by fans voting at www.speedtv.com." :stupid: :stupid:
