There was a local discount place here in michigan that had 2 ton hoist for 90 bucks brand new.. and the stand was 30.. you may have to look.. or contact a local dealership/garage to see if they have any old ones they want to get rid of.

I have a friend rebuilting a 76 280z.. it is Orange as well.. I can have him check the factory sticker but he told me that all was factory with it when he bought it and he has not done any work to it except under the hood.

Well after pulling the engine.. I am sad to say that there is too much rust on the chasis on the passenger side to do anything with.. I started removing rust in one spot and made a nice 2' long hole in the frame.. so guess I will be looking for a Donor chassis car while I rebuild the engine and transmission.. that will be hard to find here in Michigan since most everything older than yesterday has rust on it.

Thanks.. does anyone know of any good books on sheetmetal work that I could read.. or just search for some at a local Barnes and Noble to see what I can find?

I have uploaded some pictures.. they are currently waiting approval but to answer some of the questions The floor boards are rusted through on the passenger side and look to possibly be on the driver side as well but until I clean it off completely I do not know.. the frame rails seem to be ok but I just glanced at those before I had to go do something else. The rear hatch has spots that are rusted through as well. This car is more of a educational tool for me.. I will be doing all the work myself and have never done any type of body/frame work before so I do not plan on rushing anything so if it takes me 4 years to work on oh well.. I know that the engine is in working shape and the transmission needs some work.. I was able to drive it into the garage but did that just for a test. So again thanks for any input.

I finally had a chance to get underneath my car that I want to work on and found that the evil rust monster has taken up most of the passenger side of the car. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me with the 78 Z car chassis.. how much is too much rust that would make it unrepairable.. also is there a good book on repairing Unibodies out there that may point me in the right direction before I start down a road I can not pass? I will post some of the pictures later on to show what it looks like.

Thanks everyone.. well I just picked up a 1000lb engine stand and a 2 ton hoist for the paltry sum of 120 dollars at a local shop.. so I am ready to disassemble and see what kind trouble I can get in. You will probably be seeing my name a lot in the next few months..

I recently got a steal on a 78 280z to restore ($100.00) it runs has some nasty body damage and other damage but I am in process of purchasing an Engine Hoist and Stand and was wondering if anyone could tell me what the Weight of the Engine/transmission together are for the hoist and just the engine itself.. I am new to restoring and have about 5 manuals on their way but would like to get this ordered before they get here. Thanks
