ok turns out im a moron. When i pulled the wires under the car to connect them to the new pump it ended up pulling the bullet connector under the seat apart. good times! One more question... does anybody know where i can get an aux. air regulator for that? Nobody has em!

yeah I'm sure its not the polarity.. i took off the fuel line while cranking the motor over, and watched the fuel in the line. Didnt budge... before it stopped starting, the motor would sometimes cut out while driving... losing all power. But then would start right back up again. wtf? Its annoying the crap out of me!

Hey guys i was wondering what would cause me to not get power to the fuel pump? This is on a 78 280z... totally stock. I replaced the fuel pump, and still nothing. I'm getting pulse to the injectors, and im getting spark... just no power to the pump. Could it be one of the sensors on the motor?

Hey guys hows it going. Lately i have been noticing that my 78 280z has been shutting off while driving. Ill be driving, then slow down sorta fast, and the car will just slowly bumble, then shut off. Also, if im driving, and i take a sharp corner the motor will instantly shut off, then start back up by itself about a second later. I am totally lost. Full tank, half tank, quarter tank... does it every time. Any reccomendations?

For some reason i think my 78 z is running rich. When im sitting there at idle i can smell raw fuel, and the idle misses and bobbles around. Then when i rev it up to about 2 grand and hold it there i can hear slight backfiring, and pops coming out of the exhaust. Then i let off completely and it pops and burbles back down to idle, only it drops to about 100 rpm and acts like its going to die. what do you think is the problem? Thanks guys

(78 280z) Hey guys, im aquiring a 4.11 rear end, and a 5 speed transmission. I was wondering how much better will my acceleration be if i go from a 3 speed auto-3.54 rear end, 70 series tires. To a 5 speed-4.11 rear end, 60 series tire? Will it be noticeable? Thanks guys! Also, whats the average going price for a r-200 4.11 rear end? I dont wanna get ripped off.
  8. Hey guys. I have dealt with this since i finished the car, but i think its time i fix it. That little blue indicator light stays on no matter how many times i click the hi beams. Also i noticed that the only light that seems to switch is the drivers side one. The passenger light just stays in low beam. Also when both lights are in low beam the right one is a little brighter. All your ideas are welcome! thanks guys

you get the pads out by removing a cotter pin from one side of the two sliders, slide them out then just pull out the springs, and pads. The easiest brakepad removal i have ever seen.

Hey guys its been awhile since i have posted on here so here is a little update. The motor that took me so long to rebuild is finally done. Acctually, i have almost 2,000 miles on it! So anyways. It seems to idle pretty high (950ish) and when i blip the throttle in neutral it just dies when it goes to settle back to idle. It sputters then just dies. What in the world could be causing this? Sometimes instead of dieing the idle goes reallllly low then it takes a second for the motor to catch back up. Its very odd. thanks in advance guys

yeah one thing i noticed about z's is that they only sound better, and better as the rpm's increase. its "zweet". Almost sounds like a european sports car. Very pleasing to the ears if i do say so myself. Who needs a sterio when you have open exhaust?

today while at work my buddy was jetting around in his 240. just sorta messing around. He has a MSA exhaust, and it hangs SUPER low to the ground. As he was entering the driveway i heard a loud scrape. Then the exhaust got really loud. Turns out it bottomed out, then ripped off the exhaust from the downpipe back. Man, did it sound SWEEEET. It was loud as all hell, but sweet. It makes me want to run open exhaust. but im sure the cops would have a fuss.

what i did at a pick n pull was just take off the starter, and jam a pry bar in the flywheel teeth. It worked great. The only bad thing is that i only had a open end wrench :dead: . It took me and my buddy brian (big guy) half an hour to get that fookin thing off. Took allllllllllllot of kicking, and hitting with a hammer. Luckly it finally came loose. I still have a fat scab on my arm from when the wrench slipped, and the fan pulley studs met my skin. This was almost a month ago...

so i take it that it would be too much of a hassle to mount up the 240 struts/springs to my 280? would i be better off just buying the a 280 setup? Thanks for the feedback guys

I told him today about how they wont fit. Telling him that I was told on a forum i go to. He got all mad and said that "he obviously doesnt know what he is talking about". What makes it so they dont fit? I need to shut this guy up. Thanks guys

Hey guys, I have a 78 280z, and the struts are fubar'd so i wanna replace them, and i also wanna lower it a little bit. The ride height is just tooo high. So, my buddy is offering to sell me his struts that he has lying around for an awesome price. He has a 72 240. They are KYB struts, and motorsport springs. I really wanna get them, but will they fit? Thanks allot guys

Wow, it feels great to acctually start putting my motor back together. I was getting used to teardown, and cleaning. But now acctually being able to build it back up is a feeling i have never felt before. Judging by how good i feel right now im probbably gonna shat myself when it fires for the first time! I cant wait! The other plus is i just got a job being a mechanic for a cool guy, and his son. They are the people i acctually bought the z from. They own a small shop, and the son is a huge z freak just like me. Its awesome. Not to meantion that i get my parts for cheap as hell. For instance The rings, rod bearings, and main bearings cost me 82 total and were delivered to me the very next morning right when i got into work. I thought tearing it down was fun, but this is just something that i cant explain. Gotta love the Z! Now i wanna drive it!
  18. MrMarcDude replied to MrMarcDude's post in a topic in Help Me !!
all it really needs is a bit of honing (bought the hone). Using stock pistons, and all that, so what size rings would be good?

(78 280z) Ok, im in the process of rebuilding my engine. I just got 500 bux that i can spend on parts. So im getting main, and rod bearings, rings, and some other small stuff. I was wondering which of these two am i supposed to get for my mains? http://shop.nissanpartstore.com/?make=NI&year=1978 Thanks a bunch EDIT: Go to the main bearings section under engine mechanical. There is STD, and 0.25mm (0.010") Which one is for me?
  20. Then what would you guys reccomend for the engine bay? For some reason i really like the flat black. Plus, the flat black would go very well with how im painting my engine.
  21. Im not too worried about keeping the liner clean, all i really gotta do is pressure wash it (Im buying a pressure washer). That should keep it clean right? There is no way in all hell that im gonna sell this thing. I am waaaay too attached to it already. Plus, I was gonna take pictures of the process. So then there is proof that there is no rust under it. This car is 99.99% rust free. The only rust is a tad on the rear hatch sill.
  22. Its a cool idea. I was thinking since i have the engine out, and im cleaning up the engine bay why not give it a coat of paint? Well, not being able to decide on a color i have come up with a neat little idea that i think would acctually be pretty cool. What do you guys think about me coating the engine bay with Rhino-liner. Or a roll on bedliner? I think it would be pretty cool to have that texture, and look. If somebody has already thought about this im sorry. I was also thinkin of using that as an undercoating..... Thanks for the opinions guys
  23. Today i was spray painting various little parts on my intake (ill post pics when its all done and pretty) and i was outside, so i figured i really didnt need a mask. After about 2 hours of painting i went inside to wash up, and suddenly sneezed. BLACK SNOT shot out of my nose! Yuck, well, be careful when painting. :bandit:
  24. You guys have been a huge help. Thanks a bunch! I acctually have a cracked N47 head to work off of, and use as a reference. When i scrap that head, is there anything i should take off, and keep for spare parts?
  25. Im somwhat leaning towards the E88 head. So all i pretty much would have to do is notch it for the EFI? How much do you think that would cost, or could i do it myself? (Im damn good with the dremel) Thanks guys
