Hi Murphy, welcome to australia and The early skyline scene There are a few of us now doing engine transplant's into the C110.. The car is similar to the Z's, so anything that goes into a Z will likely go into the K. RB's are pretty simple, i am putting in an RB26DETT into my coupe, there are a few other RB25DET's and RB20DET's kicking around.. and 240Kconvertible is doing an old school V8.. luckily here RB's are relitively plentiful i have a (badly designed / layed out) site at www.project240k.com (some info on there, otherwise jump straight to the photo's at www.project240k.com/gallery i am yet to feel how my car handles on the road, i am hoping well (assuming traction!)

yeah sorry it was a little old thanks for putting me onto the IMSA style.. led me to the Jim cook racing style which is what i had imagined.. thought they are probably still a little wide.. looking for something between the ZG's and the JCR ones (blended into the body) i only want 9.5" max on the rear wheels i will keep searching! lucky i have plenty of time!

sorry to bring up a very old topic, but i am trying to do some research into changing the engine in my 71 240Z (it has been unregistered for a while, and is only now pretty much a shell). I really wanted to get a V12 into the car, but with a "small" 5L (4988cc) BMW engine, it means i hit the problem you reached with your 308.. i need the RTA to "recognise" the original tare weight of the car as being atleast 1035KG (close.. but 15kg more than the 1020kg they seem to have on file). Just wondering how you ended up resolving your issue and how you convinced the engineer on your differential (havn't spoken to one yet, trying to work out what i want to do first) thanks, would appreciate knowing what happened (and which engineer you used, i am in sydney too) Kent

it is beyond me!, it really is.. i guess contract work is just more lucrative for him (but even still.. this is quite a big order to snub your nose at!). i guess our first job is to find someone in japan who won't mind bidding / ordering them for us.. it would be great to find an actual japanese fibreglass shop that sells them rather than yahoo auctions.

the question is.. what do we do now.. should we start looking at putting a pot together to buy another from japan? i paid Y18,000 + fees plus shipping (local and international) in 04/06 the problem was shipping though as it was just over the EMS limit (but mine sneaked through) of course i am sure they are a LOT more now, given the stupid asking prices for most C110 stuff in japan.. and the aussie dollar

Sorry to bring up an old thread. nissanman, do you have the pics posted anywhere other than imagestation (which is now closed). can i clarify, were the mounts on the caliper redrilled, or the mounts on the strut? and can i ask who sells the ex HSV cast offs? What did you do about rear brakes to match? commodore rears?

the problem i think is future availability.. phil may came through this time.. but what about next time?

it seems very catch 22.. we have all parts except the grill, and if we remove our order from phill, then there is even less chance that he will even bother doing the grills (which is the important bit).. what is the general concensus of how long we wait? though after this, i vote to let alfa take a copy anyway.. we just need 1 grill!!!

i may also need (in addition to my grill) a second set of everything. will confirm and let you know

Nope, not that anyone has let on (otherwise we wouldn't be wasting our time with phil ) My 1st one was destroyed when he took the mould, and the one i bought was shipped off to the US (and funnily enough, eventually back to japan) with a car i sold.. and still waiting for phil to sell me a replacement The shipping on the grill from japan was not cheap either.. and it was slightly over the maximum EMS postage size.. it did make it through though (though slightly bent and damaged)

hehe, i wouldn't hold my breath, i am still waiting 2+ years later! i was hoping that i could atleast get the grill out of him that he promised to make me 2 years ago.. but maybe we should look collectively at buying another one out of japan and using that as a mould. It is only becasue i did this originally that Phil has the grill mould.

you wouldn't believe it.. but the 240Z that i bought.. i just realised when i went through it on the weekend.. it is missing the compliance plate too.. i am definately going to use your advice this time stupid.. i should have checked (even just to have haggled on the sale price!)

i wonder if he does know.. in an article he published (and is on his site) http://www.consulmotive.com.au/Website%20Pages/Articles/LOL%20Body%20Modifications.pdf, he states that Fibreglass replacement panels are only allowed on pre 71.. not only does that conflict with the RTA.. it also conflicts with another article he wrote on carbon fibre replacement bonnets (http://www.consulmotive.com.au/Website%20Pages/Articles/Lighten%20Up.pdf), which he says is ok on pre 95 cars. i also take it from that last article that pre 79 (with side beams) you could replace your doors with CF/FG skins etc. Not that i would.. i am still looking at putting them in on mine (can never be too safe) i also wonder where you can get ADR8 compliant Lexan

nope, he said that they were absolutely fine to go on the car as it wasn't subject to the frontal impact ADR. make sure you talk to their technical section. i would ask "i have a 197x Datsun, can i use a fibreglass replacement panel on the car instead of a metal one?" and then confirm that a fibreglass bonnet and fibreglass front fenders are ok.. that is how i asked, but the guy was absolutely sure that they were fine

does that mean that FG is ok for a bonnet without the pins? (as the RTA said) and this extra re-inforcing etc. only applies to CF

I used a DR30 1" M/C and a DR30 10" booster.. there was a little messing around, but it fitted well (just hard to find them in OZ)

see if they can do a carbon fibre layer over a FG bonnet (and can they clearcoat it?). i don't think there is any point getting them to mod existing moulds, if it isn't the proper K stuff then there is no point having a reliable source.

no, luckily not i was trying to bolt the bonnet on the car one handed, got one side in, then it pivoted and of course one corner hit the screen i had only just placed the windscreen back in the car.. typical! didn't think of novus.. i did a search here, but it didn't come up
