Hi Guys, Unfortuantely i managed to drop the bonnet on the front windscreen of the GT the other weekend when i was moving parts to it (of course it happened after spending 2 weeks of moving the windscreen around carefully, and it being the last spare one i had!). So i went on the hunt for a new windscreen. I first rang up windscreen's o'brian.. and they hummed and harred and carried on about how rare they are now because of the age of the vehicle etc.. and eventually i got quoted a price of AU$588 installed (or $400 just for the glass).. i tried a few other places, and most didn't have stock or couldn't get (or want to) one in. Finally i took a chance and rang the NRMA's club assist number.. they gave me a price of $350 (more reasonable) and said they would go off and get me a supply only price. got a phone call back saying they couldn't get a hold of one for me i mentioned that windscreen o'brians was my only choice then, and the guy said to leave it with him, and he would see what he could do. 1hr later he rang me back with a price of $270 supplied or $309 fitted (for an NRMA member). it was ready to be picked up the next day so the good news is they are still available, you just have to hunt a little for them, but just don't take the first excorberant price you are quoted!! and now the GT has a new windscreen!!

Just spoke to the RTA's technical line, i asked if there was any drama with using fibreglass replacement panels on a 72 (my Z) or 74 (the 240K) car. they said that this was perfectly fine as the car was before the frontal impact ADR (not sure of the ADR number though) I verifyed by asking if front guards and bonnets would be okay and he confirmed it. great news!

i will look for it next weekend, i have a very good idea where it might be. i presume alfa's pricing for these would be similar to the Z ones (which are $55ea for flares, $160 for rear spoiler and around $110 for the front spoiler for Z stuff!)

now i think of it, i do have a front lip somewhere.. so the only mould we need to sort out would be the grill.. it would probably be best to get a grill from phill and go from that.. Phill had to make the metal brackets, and find the right type of grill mesh that matched the example i brought back from japan. I don't have a reference we can go from as i didn't get my original back.. and the copy i bought went to the states, and now it isn't with someone we can contact

i am afraid i am still waiting for my parts from phil too i sent my replacements off to brian in the states (my originals were destroyed in the moulding process). i do have a set of flares and a bobtail.. but not a grill or front lip but i agree.. if we can get a set off phil.. maybe have this lot create a mould (run the group buy from them for numbers)..

hehe, of course i am quite familiar with hybridz.. some great RB swap information there (and partly why i like Z's so much ) i am still heavily considering either another RB26 in the Z, or go for a stroked 3.1L L28 with TWM EFI throttle bodies and a megasquirt or something.. but once it all adds up you square in RB26 territory (in price, not power ) - plus i kind of know what to expect with an RB swap.. i know nothing about stroking L28's but i like the thought of an NA induction roar

yeah, i agree.. 240k's are rarer than Z's now.. i have only twice seen a 240k on the road in the past 5 years.. both sedans (and one Jim's!).. seen plenty of 260z's i am told that the 240z is rare though (outside of america), which is why i grabbed it (and because i love the low sports look).. i am just glad to have the chance to own both cars at the same time! mind you i would give the Z up in a heartbeat for a C10 coupe!
  8. yep, sorry, i did mean the grill mesh
  9. you think? it looks a little too creamy for me, especially since there isn't anything to reflect that colour onto it
  10. khughes replied to khughes's post in a topic in 240K Skyline
only because i used the rear finisher panel off the parts car.. i actually have a better panel in the garage though.. i highly doubt it will go to the middle east, they only seem interested in the sedans.. to be honest, i would probably get better hits if i list it on ebay.. but i am hoping it will go to someone here (with the K passion!), or i will keep her i have some of the repo GT front and rear badges for it somewhere too
  11. Pretty sure body coloured grill wouldn't have been an option

very good from what i can see with the exception of 2 of the rear seat bolts, they will require rewelding in some new ones. one i got the car, i quickly POR'd the majority of the inside floor pan to stop any possible rusting while it sat around

any chance you can contact them and ask? i would be in for 1 maybe 2 (depending on prices of course, but i would imagine them to be similar to Z prices) in fibreglass. When i asked about CF bonnets for the Z they said they could do them but the weight loss was negligable and not worth the extra money. I have been searching on the legality of FG panels and havn't been able to find much (other than 1 reference to having to be pre-71, but that was a bit of a throw away line).. does anyone know for certain?

surely it would be cheaper to get someone here in aus to make a set out of a good bonnet.. there is a place called alfa motorsport fibreglass down in melbourne.. they charge around $490 for a Z bonnet in fibreglass.. or around $1k in carbon fibre maybe if someone can take them a bonnet to make a mould from?

Hi Guys, sorry for the delay, here are some updated pics: they don't show the seats, or dash though, they are still in the garage

i agree.. get it for parts.. if you have the room for another.. the glass etc. alone is probably enough to pay for itself!! problem is once you start looking with a screw driver you may find that there is a tonne more rust in other spots (esp. as 240kconvertible said, the water would have dripped through).. have you checked the floor wells and under the seats etc? how is the door sills and how about in the sides of the boot? and given the hole in the bonnet.. i doubt any old rust would have been repaired properly
  17. khughes replied to khughes's post in a topic in 240K Skyline
true.. with that information (i thought it would have been a LOT more complicated than that given people i had spoken to) it probably could have been brought back.. but since i bought the GT it was always going to be the donor car for all the bits i need i will be grabbing the steering wheel, but can't honestly see $150 in it (maybe new!)

just booked it in to be taken away on monday, i was offered $30 at a scrap metal place if i dropped it off, or somebody can come out and just take it off my hands.. so for $30 someone can come, and pick it up i will definately take the front struts off (which should be easy), but the rears i think will be too hard to get at on the trailer (and probably of very little use to me anyway)

hehe i know.. we waited on the weekend till she got home before we started chopping!.. i can't wait for it to disappear.. only to be replaced with another! unfortuantely the doglegs are rusted out too (well.. badly bogged at least ) i am still not sure if i should goto the trouble of ripping out the front suspension and the rear diff etc.. i could probably sell them to a 1600 guy.. but i think the effort and difficulty in getting it on the trailer will make it not worthwhile
  20. khughes replied to khughes's post in a topic in 240K Skyline
hehe.. another 240k bites the dust had to strip any "usable" flat metal for future rust repairs.. then she is going off to the scrap metal merchant this was my parts car for the GT, and it didn't come with any compliance plates.. so it was always destined for the crusher unfortuanately (otherwise it wasn't a bad car!)
  21. sorry, i wasn't trying to be offensive i was actually the one to blame for the skylines australia classic section.. i figured it would have been a great and natural place for us to go.. but in reality.. as you say.. for the majority of skyline owners.. classic means R31 there was very little if any usefull C110/C10 (a handful of C210 though) info, and i must admit i have not checked it as often becasue of that (here is still the place to be!) i think CSAU will have similar issues in that there are already dedicated forums for later skylines R32 +, R31's and the C110, and there will be no reason for this to change (i certainly see a hole for prince, C10's etc. though) i think that CSAU (which i still believe is a bad name if your not affiliated with SAU) may be a little better if there are specific sections for each (unlike SAU had).. but for C110 i would hope that this forum remains the defacto.. there is too much in the archives
  22. i must say i am not a huge fan of wood in the 240k's.. i am tossing up between CF or brushed alu on mine, but i certainly know what you are going for.. love the steering wheel! but yeah, you really need to get the wood to match and then have it varnished.. have you tried the places that make the imitation plastic trim for cars? i know it wouldn't be as cheap, but they make custom parts to your spec, and you would get a very good match to your wheel then (including the plastic covering)
  23. khughes replied to khughes's post in a topic in 240K Skyline
sorry guys, didn't get any pics today... i was too busy scavenging parts from the parts car to get it ready to goto the scrap (the parts car, not the GT! ). will try and get some later on in the week
  24. khughes replied to racsov500's post in a topic in 240K Skyline
depends on how big the holes are i guess.. are they in locations where the trim clips in? is this around the windscreen or the gutters? if you can weld it should be easy.. otherwise if not to bad.. how about bog? at least your dog legs are ok.. they are i think, a lot harder the fix (welding etc)

not quite as fast as 240Kconvertable's.. but it is mid engined and has 18 cylinders with 7.2L!!! not very comfortable though!
