U-joints, CV's and 240Z/280Z bits
nope i havn't fitted anything yet, the post that i posted, was some guys using the bits in their dasun 1600's.. it looks like you Zed guys have it easy! i don't even know if the geometry is similar in the 240K you got to love the benefits of competition, a mass market and consumerism in the US don't you!!

nope, not yet, i don't think the 280ZXT was brought to Australia, so i may need to get them from the US

280ZXT and Z31T CV half shafts in OZ
Hi Guys, i am looking at trying to fit the modernmotorsports 280Z/CV joint adaptors into my 240K with R200.. I know very little about the Z's, but i apparently need a 27 spline 280Z hub and CV companion flange, along with either Z31 turbo (4 bolt flange) half shafts, or 280ZX Turbo half shafts. i read somewhere that the 280ZXT wasn't sold in australia.. i was just wondering if i have any chance of getting these parts from australia? or do i need to try the US?

U-joints, CV's and 240Z/280Z bits
i think i am going to go down the path of a 280Z hub with 280ZXT half shafts or the Z31 Half shafts with the cheaper mods from modernmotorsports: http://www.modern-motorsports.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=32&products_id=56&PHPSESSID=895e58aaa08fdb10eb5ace0c94e6f32e or http://www.modern-motorsports.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=25_45&products_id=5&PHPSESSID=895e58aaa08fdb10eb5ace0c94e6f32e i can't afford the billet ones, and worse case if it doesn't fit, i am sure i can sell them to some AUS Z guy Is the track width of a Z and a K different? i am sure they probably are

240K Vs 240Z rear brake kits
if you want to measure the distance between your current caliper bolts, i will measure mine as they come off. The guy who setup my car had it on the road with the current brake setup, so it must work, though i would certainly upgrade the M/C if you goto rear disks too does anyone know what "late model 240K" equates to?

240K Vs 240Z rear brake kits
yep, my current fronts are a combination Hilux/accord combo, never driven them with it (it is still a shell). i certainly considered thinking about a 2nd brake for the handbrake, then i could have used R34 GTT rears interesting what you say about the M/C, SWR recommended that i got a 15/16" M/C from the 280Z (?), i ended up buying a brandnew nabco one out of the states, it is sitting there in it's box, i wonder if this will be a little small now?

U-joints, CV's and 240Z/280Z bits
found this on the net, it is for the Datsun 1600, but it is promising: Datsun 1600 Rear End - My Completed Project gday, just thought i would add some info on how i went about completeing my r200 LSD conversion and rear disk brake setup i used standard 1600 swing arms and rear crossmember. the exhaust hole on the crossmember was enlarged to 4" to suit a 3" pipe. all bushes were fitted with new nolathane items the stock 1600 drum brakes were removed and the stub axles and flanges removed. This require alot of bashing and swearing. rear brakes from a R31 skyline were used, modified mounts, a standard calipers and some DBA gold rotors. for the handbrake cable we used 2 r31 skyline right hand cables and made a custom centre cable using 2 standard 1600 adjusters. for brake lines we found that VT comodore front brake lines would be perfect with 1 male-male connector for the left hand side hose, where the hose meets the distribution block. i chose to order a braided brake line kit from datsport.com for the fit ment of the R200 i made a custom moustache bar using 2 standard 1600 bars, redrilled and welded it together. the housing where the nose of the diff is bolted to the crossmember needed to be 'massaged' with a large hammer in order for the diff to fit completely inside the crossmember. in order to connect the diff to the wheels, we investigated a number of methods, but found that 280zx rear CV/shafts would be perfect for the application. these would bolt up without any modification or stuffing around. these are not the same length and suit off centred diffs. the r200 used was a off centre type from a Z31 300zx. the 280zx CV's fit into this centre without need to be modified or machined. the CV's have a spline on one end and a 6 bolt flange on the other. to get the CV's bolted to the a-arm, 280zx 6 bolt flanges slid straight onto the 1600 stub axle spline. i also used the 280zx stub axle nuts. this whole conversion was done basically with no custom parts needed to be made (except the moustache bar, and r31 caliper mounts) Total cost? crossmember - paint $30 - bushes $120 - 4" hole for exhaust $100 Swing arms - bushes $80 - r31 rear calipers $60 pair - new DBA gold rotors $250 pair - r31 handbrake cables and caliper brackets $40 - 280zx 6 bolt flanges $40 pair - Datsport Braided Brake Lines $225 Diff - R200 Long Nose 3.9 LSD Clutch $1200 Rebuilt - 280zx CV Joints $90 pair Total = $2155....ouch update time : we got the car on the ground and rolled it backwards and forwards to check for clearance... one side (the short side) was binding up and caused to car to hop up and down on each rotation.. so.... i sourced another 280zx short halfshaft/CV from the Z-car shop, and tried that, still a bee's **** too long. so... i asked around, the cheapest 'custom' axles i can have made are around $250 ea... so... i decided to be a tight arse prick and have the shafts shortened on each end by cutting the splines further down the shaft...this should give be a combined gain of around 16mm per shaft...this should be enough to give me full clearance... the only dis-advantage of this is that i will loose around 7mm of spline on each centre bearing.... the axles guru ron@Petron Automotive assured me that it should not compromise strength 'much' if they break then i have to get custom ones made, so i will try the cheap was first...bloody jew i am photos to follow..... ------------------------------------------------------- Other option is to get the axles shortened in the middle and scotch keyed together. Datsqik has done this and run an 11.0 @130 so they're plenty strong. Regards, Dave

240K Vs 240Z rear brake kits
yeah, i am afraid if R31's would be too small, then 280ZX would be too small too

U-joints, CV's and 240Z/280Z bits
Hi Guys, has anyone looked into upgrading their rear Uni joints to CV joints? i got a quote of almost $2000 to get this done by a workshop, and seeing as there are some american 240Z/280Z quick and easy solutions to this issue, i was wondering if any of these would work for the 240K?? 280Z stub axles into 240Z : http://www.magshooterz.com/280z_stub_axle_swap.htm Z31 CV joint upgrade to match 280Z Stub's: http://www.magshooterz.com/z31_cv_conversion.htm my question is (of course), would the 280Z stubs fit in the 240K arms? and then would the Z31 conversion work for us?? Just wondering if anyone here has some 240K/240Z/280Z parts handy they can measure and compare, or otherwise i will need to pull my arms out and see (add that to the list of 1 million things i have to measure out ) for myself. comments? magic bullet solutions? anyone?

wohoo!!! finally
Miles and I finally won a yahoo auction for a GT-R replica grill!!! it is a Fibreglass copy, but looks rather nice it had a small crack and a section of paint had fallen off, but overall not to hard to fix i finally won it for the princely sum of $210, not cheap, but since i have seriously been looking for GT-R grills, they have all but dried up (apart from 2 $1000+ real ones!) so fingers crossed, over the next few weeks, my whole kit should be swimming it's way over!!

Camber?
Hi Lachlan, i have my camber plates with the car, so i will get you a photo of them on the weekend, from memory though they are similar to the 1st photo. Let me confirm that for you. I am yet to put them on yet though, so not sure how well they fit, but they are designed for teh C110 so they shouldn't be a problem. I looked around OZ for a set, but the only ones i could find were uber expensive (around $400) and they were universal type ones.. definately better getting them out of japan!

240K Sedans for sale EBAY
yeah, i emailed the guy asking what the interior was, the guy replied that he was selling for a friend, and that his mate said it was definitely a 240K dash... i asked him how they managed to shoehorn in the 4WD system, he just told me to give his mate a ring for details.. ie. the guy had no idea..

240K Vs 240Z rear brake kits
Yeah, i was originally going for a set of R31 rears and Z32 NA fronts, but i since bought a set of 30mm R34 front calipers, and i have been told by SWR that the R31's would not be a good balance for the rears in my setup so it looks like i may need to do a bit of a hybrid of the current 240K-R30 design with the rotors and caliper sizes i end up using.. i was hoping there would be atleast something around already, but doesn't look like it..

240K Vs 240Z rear brake kits
yeah that is what i thought, the reason i ask was that i was considering getting stewart Wilkins to do the rear brakes for me, the price i got was around $1500 fitted, and was based on some form of commodore setup (new disks and calipers included). I didn't ask but i figured it was their 240Z/260Z rear brake kit (pricing was around the same). I am now trying to keep my costs down and trying to do as much as i can on the car (trying to save on labour), since there is sooo much left to do, but it looks like i won't be able just to buy the kit and simply bolt it on myself, some work will need to be done. If that is the case, i may as well modify the existing designs that Bruce has made for R30 calipers and change them to suite R34 GTT rear calipers (atleast then i know they will suit my R34 GTT front's). i am planning on using a 15/16" master cyl. but i do not know why, i was just told by SWR that i would need one so i got one..

16" Watanabe's on 240K
it all looks to hard, i can't imagine the extra thickness for the "banksia brake" will fit going back to looking at getting R34 rear calipers to suit my R34 fronts.. and trying to design custom brackets

240K Vs 240Z rear brake kits
Hi Guys, i am once again looking into getting off my arse and doing my brake conversions. does anyone know (and i am sure there will be someone) if a 240Z rear brake conversion kit would work on a 240K arm? looking at something similar to this: http://www.modern-motorsports.com/catalog/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=&products_id=2 the 240SX is the equivilant to the imported 180SX here i think.

16" Watanabe's on 240K
interesting, anyone heard of doing it this way on a conversion on a datsun (maybe 1600 with 240k arms?)? when i spoke to SWR about doing the rear conversion for me, they indicated it was a VT commodore rear setup (to suite my GTT fronts), i found that on ebay i can get the disk, caliper and pad set for $150, so i am thinking i might have a go myself, just not sure about the handbrake setup.. i guess that means i need a backing plate too?

16" Watanabe's on 240K
here are the links to the 15" watanabe RS and 16" watanabe measurements i recieved http://www.project240k.com/wat15.jpg http://www.project240k.com/wat16x8.jpg btw.. does anybody here happen to know how Holden Commodore VT, VU, VZ etc. handrake cables work? i am looking at using the rear calipers, but the pics i have found don't seem to have any provisions for a handbrake cable.

16" Watanabe's on 240K
Wow Eric! don't suppose you can email them to find out if they have/can do an adaptor for the R34 GTT calipers on the GC110? would love to get the info out of that email about the differences.. i still have my Z32 NA calipers so if there is little difference, it might be better for me to revert back to them (they are certainly lighter and bigger though) and try and get hold of a set of the adaptors from grit-tune pm me if your interested in the contact details of the guy in Australia selling me the watanabe's, i have the size drawings here too, just need to scan them in (and decipher them )
-
16" Watanabe's on 240K
i contacted the agent that is getting them for me, and he is getting a scale drawing with measurements from watanabe for me for both 15 and 16" rims, i will post the info when i get it. i would just hate to order $2500 rims and find they don't fit when they arrive , besides, i am thinking that 15" may now be the go, just not sure if the 16's would look too big for the car.. it really is going to depend on whether the R34 GTT disks and calipers will fit in the 15" wheels (but i am inclined to think they won't)
