  1. Hi Mate, I do have a 240K which i could be convinced to sell for the right price (the only reason i am hanging onto it is so that i have a reference for my other 240k when i have to put it back together) It is in okay condition, it is an auto 1974 coupe with around 65k on the clock, mechanically it is in very good condition, engine is great (fuel tank needs to be replaced though), road registered etc.. the body is in okay condition.. we were going to use the car in a charity rally, so we installed a roof vent, the LHS front quarter is a little rough (it had a ding that we unprofessionally beat out), and we did a home spray job on it (not too bad except for a few runs)... i guess it depends what your after teh car for, a rebuild or original etc. i can send you some pics if you send me an address... but again, i am not actively trying to sell the car... but for the right price etc..
  2. where abouts in australia are you?

thanks Jeremy, how are you planning to do the fuel hose upgrade? are you increasing the size of the lines? i have been pondering how best to do this, i can't imagine that it would be easy to get new solid lines fitted as the car can't move anywhere at the moment, but obviously the standard lines won't be able to cope. how are you handling the ignition key issue? (When the key is in start position, it cuts the ON power) would love to get a hold of any detailed pictures you may have (i am sure we all would!)

Hi mate, would love to get some pics of your engine bay now that the RB20 is in, especially around the steering rack etc. What gearbox are you using? any issues getting the engine to fit in (clearence wise). would love some pics of your engine / gearbox mounts, as i am doing an RB25DET conversion to my C110 (i am up to actually getting the thing in)

Hi Tom, sent you a pm about the carby a while back, did you get it okay? Kent

has anyone actually done a conversion on the steering in the 240k yet?

Hi Leon, bet it will be sad to see her go, i am still very unsure what to do with our rally car now.. this year i wanted to concentrate on getting my other 240k up and on the road(with rb25det etc..) so in all honesty, this year could be out for me rallying too.. will it never happen!! good luck with the sale, i know how much time, effort and cash it would have taken to get the car up to spec, and it certainly isn't pretty ;(

yeah, i am really sorry to hear that too but i am glad you are okay.. and just think if you look on the brightside.. the 240k will have a lot more character

hmm.. guess i will get hold of a thermo tomorrow and see what difference that makes
  13. khughes replied to khughes's post in a topic in 240K Skyline
the thermostat was missing when i bought the car, we had pulled it apart to test, but found that it doesn't have one.. the car had been sitting in a field for the past 7 years will check out the thread, but i would have thought that the thermostat would have helped to get the temperature up to start with and then would have been a restriction to flow otherwise.. but i guess i will find out

As for the water disapearing, i assume that was only because i was running water in it, as oppose to anti-freeze which i am now running (as of the weekend, previous to this, the car wasn't driven very far). i will check tonight to see if we are still loosing fluid, i did notice a small seeping of coolant on the top of the radiator, looks like a 3mm hairline crack.. so maybe the radiator is fubared.. at idle, it gets to about 1/2 way on the guage. The radiator shroud is all there, i guess i will see if the coolant has been discoloured Thanks Leon, we are travelling up to yass and staying over night on the 27/9 (so more of a day early, than a test run!).. I guess if we don't sort the issue out by then (or a new radiator is needed), we can nurse the car up to yass (stop every 50km if need be! and do a quick F1 style pitstop that afternoon i assume your heading up to albury on the 28th? we should meet up and head to albury together from yass anyway (assuming the thing hasn't carked it by then! can't wait to see what is next!

yeah, the thermostat had already been removed, so it can not be that. The radiator did have a fair bit of crud and off coloured muddy water in it, but after a few flushes this pretty much stopped.. i assume that it is actually getting pretty hot as when i was running the car with water only in the radiator, after the car got up to operating temporature, the level of water had dropped, presumabely it had boiled off. but i wonder if your right about the radiator being stuffed internally due to rust etc. yep, the fan is spinning all right.

Okay, on to my next problem The car is now idleing well, and managed to drive it 35km today without it dying once (that alone is an achievement!). The car is an Auto. Apart from some over-fuelling issues (the carb is totally full, the float is up, but it hasn't stopped the fuel from flooding the carb, i am running the stock fuel pump, and an inline 5-7psi electric pump, the guy said it wouldn't make a difference seeing as i needed 4psi) The problem i am now getting is the car is overheating, when i say overheating, it is right up to the last mark on the temp guage before it hits 130.. The scary thing is.. this is happening when driving at 100km/h on a freeway! I have previously flushed the radiator a number fo times with water, and recently with nissan radiator flush fluid. It is now filled with new radiator fluid. What has me worried is that i have an oil cooler that i need to install, which will partially cover the radiator. I assume this isn't normal, so how can i go about reducing the temperature? This is winter in sydney, it is not going to last out in the desert in october! I was thinking of maybe: - Installing a thermo fan on the front to suck more air in (but really, how much air does it need, i am doing 100km/h! - installing an Auto transmission cooler (this should take some heat soak off the radiator, but again, as realestate is pretty tight, it may take some radiator space!) - maybe the water pump isn't working effectively? I also have another radiator, which is from a manual, but it looks to be off a z or something, although similar in dimensions, it doesn't have the drain plug at the bottom, like it does on my K.

how do i drain the torque convertor ? obviously taking the sump off isn't enough.. looks like i did a half assed job at changing the ATF then
  18. and the stickers? we received our door stickers, but it doesn't have an entry number (ours is 73 btw ) did you have to put your own numbering on? just don't want to turn up without a number also, we are planning to do only the road stages (there is no way our car will stand up to the off road stages), it will be (i am sure) less enjoyable, but the aim is to make the end of the rally
  19. i am afraid it is a case of too much blood and sweat has already been put into preparing.. so one way or another we will make it there.. we just won't be winning any prizes! do you have any idea what the model number of the steering wheel boss is? i bought one, but it didn't fit properly (the cancelling pins were too far inwards on the hub) K
  20. i know exactly what you mean, even when spending 2 days a week (the whole weekend) for effectively the last year, very little seems to ever get done! Today though we managed to drive the car to work, and only 1 stall at the lights! i just hope it doesn't decide to go bad again! We have bugger all sponsorship too.. so far we have around $350 due to the raffle tickets... and likewise NO corporate sponsorship... this charity rally is going to cost us personally thousands i am starting to wonder why we started but it is all for a good cause! i assume if we don't make the $2500 sponsorship benchmark, then we have to cough up the rest (along with the fees etc. we have to pay anyway?) on a good note, we are planning to leave sydney on the tuesday, travel to Yass in that day (just to be cautious, 300km test run if you like!) and then on the wednesday (registration day), we will drive the remainder 300km (hopefully!), adn of course thursday we depart for the big rock.... that is as long as we get out of sydney that is!

looks very neat! looks great in black too! more pics please
  22. oh man.. that sort of sums up where we are up to aswell did you track down your team mates? i booked some of my accomodation today, going to set aside the 1st half of the week to try and make it to albury.. if the car get's that far, we should be fine! (but just quietly.. i am worried! VERY worried )

Hi Guys, this is directed for those (un)fortunate to own an auto. Does anyone know what the actual capacity of the gearbox is? every manual i can find states 5.5L but, after i drained mine (and replaced the filter, the gearbox is immaculate btw!). I am stumped on the capacity? The only way which i could work out to fill the thing was through the dipstick, so i poured 5Ltrs down it, and that overfilled the tube.. i then spent the day suctioning out the fluid by syringe (3hrs of fun!), until it got down to around 2.5L. When you check the dipstick, should the engine be running or hot? or just cold? i just don't want to put too much in and have it blow up on me
  24. well, I pulled the fuel tank out and the insides looked like they were absolutely coated in rust. no wonder the fuel was absorbing mud i decided to use the fuel tank from my other project 240k, which looked immaculate inside, in the mean time I also took your advice and blew out the lines, lucky i did, so much crud came out of it! so now there is nothing that could possibly go wrong with the fuel aqnd lines, and now the cars idle is back to playing up.. it is driving me nuts
  25. thanks guys! will give it a go on the weekend! (and find out what the local radiator repairs will charge)
