Well, i just faxed off our application to the Great Escape, so with any luck we will see you there!!! Not sure if our car will be up to doing all the off dirt tracks, but worse case it should make the distance on the roads! How did you get your front towbar mounted? did you modify an existing one or get one made up to suit?

Yep, i am not quite sure what the terrain of this trip is going to be.. i havn't ventured anywhere near where the rally is heading! I think regardless of the route, it would be pretty hot and dusty in the car though hence you got me thinking about the vent! I just hope the poor car lasts! (i have no idea how reliable it is yet!) i think i will be driving her to work a fair bit just to get a guage on if something is going to go wrong.. for those interested, here is the route... 14 October - Launch in Sydney, then drive to Bathurst Day 1: From Bathurst to Parkes, then on to West Wyalong Day 2: Through Griffith to Hay Day 3: Through Clare and Mungo National Park to Mildura Day 4: Unwind after the long drive for a day and prepare for a big night of entertainment Day 5: Through the Mallee country of Sunset National Park and Big Desert to Horsham Day 6: Through the Grampians to Hamilton and on to Warrnambool Day 7: Last day takes us along the Great Ocean Road to Otway National Park. Then its on to Colac and Ballarat for a big finish and more esCarpade celebrations. i guess i need to start thinkning about what spare parts to take as well.. planning on strapping a roof basket on, with 2 spare tyres.. any one got any ideas as to what i should be taking in case of emergancy (i will definantly be welding strengthening supports into the rear suspension arms Leon!) Leon, are you thinking of entering the great escape this year too?

Leon, let me know how you end up doing this... it has certainly got me thinking about doing something similar (and nows the time before i paint the car!).. I was recently thinking about something similar to the WRC scoops, but i am not sure how you would block it up in the case of rain.. maybe a foam block that can be inserted to plug it up? again, i don't know how they filter these though on the real rally cars..

haha, yeah.. put it this way.. it will look like a well used japanese cop car when we are finished i have a small C110 cop car model that i just won off ebay.. so we will be working to that.. japanese writing and all.. my only worry is that since it doesn't say POLICE in english.. nobody is gonna get it.. but i have you to blame for putting that video cover up on SAU and giving me the idea! mate the car looks perfect! i can only hope that mine works out like that!

Hi Tom and the rest of you all out there... I havn't had much time to work on our project car either of late... most of time time i can spend on the car is dedicated pretty much to getting the rally car up and running (i have too many friends getting married.. seems like a wedding/bucks/engadgements every weekend ) The car is going well, bodywise most of the car is now complete (by this i mean bogged up ;D), just have to fix up the boot, give it another coat of primer, and she should be ready to spray! it certianly won't win any awards.. but then again it is a charity rally car.. Interior wise it still needs a good clean out, who knows what is in there! hopefully soon, a sponsor will be sorting us out with some tyres, so in preperation, i have sprayed the ROH rimms gold, not a fantastic job (they will probably scratch off at the first oportunity, but oh well..) but it will be enough for the event, and a few sponsor show offs... Oh btw.. we are doing the car up as a japanese police car it was the only theme we could think of, in keeping with the skyline theme As for the project car.. still looking for a nice set of 15-16" watanabe's.. they are proving most elusive! good to hear that others are getting somewhere substantial with their projects.. oh.. i have been updating the rally.project240k.com site too.. i am not 100% sure with the site layout yet.. and i will hopefully get a few more photo's up this weekend, as far as the weather holds.. typical! a weekend off, and it rains!

Australian car's seem to be following the US trend too unfortunately.. we have always had an obsession with 5L V8's, but now of course, we don't make our own so we are getting the bigger ones from the US (LS1's etc.).. and even thought socially people are starting to get the idea this is a bad thing (along with big (by our standards at least, not US) 4WD's in the city).. but marketing and male pride i think gets the better of most blokes... good to see that the US is going to start marketing hybrids in good numbers though.. and in trucks too.. a good step forward! sorry guys for chatting (well i guess, sorry to myself since i started it )

Mikey, Just found this site, it mentions they have 240K side glass, not sure how current it is but maybe worth an email? it is here in Australia though http://www.nispares.com.au/Auto-Glass.htm

wow, interesting, somehow i don't see the NSW government ever being that "liberal" with emisisons testing (haha, that's a joke btw.. NSW Govt. is labour at the moment) i do sort of get the impression that the US is pretty light on environmental issues overall (but that is because of your 100L V8's you have over there )

Hi Guys, A friend of mine was telling me the other day that any pr-76 cars were not produced to meet any emmisions or noise controls etc. (no cat or noise level requirements) and that if your building a car, even if you put a much newer engine into the body, the emmisions and noise levels are still based on the production date of the car (rather than the engine).. Is this true? it certainly explains why many RX3's etc that get around are really really loud, but i would have thought that had this been true, they would base it on the engine date, seeing as this is what produces the noise and polution anybody got any ideas? if the states are different, NSW info would help Kent
  13. Thanks Guys, I have the Hilux/Accord setup on our other 240k, and i was eyeing it up over the weekend (i wanted to use 300zx calipers on the front eventually anyways). as it does look like it is a bolt on affair (especially since the accord rotors are already drilled etc.) I just am not sure if this is overkill for a very stock 240k. I am also not sure if i should wait to get the RB powered 240k on the road to see if the Hilux/Accord combo will be sufficient or the upgrade to the 300zx calipers will be required(visually they don't look much bigger, but i am sure the pad area would be greater) Bruce, Thanks for the suggestion, but I just want to get this one on the road and registered with as little fuss as possible (without having to get it engineered etc.), The charity bash is on in October, time is quickly running away Kent
  14. Hi guys, The Piston's in the front brakes on our rally car are pretty much seized up, and the seals have seen better days. I went to repco to try and get a seal kit, but the guy there could only find a replacement pbr caliper listed. Anyone have any idea if any manufacturer still makes the seals? Also, I am probably going to have to replace the front rotors, only problem is, none of my workshop manuals list how to remove them (the wheel hub is sort of somehow bolted over the top of the rotor), anyone done this and can give me a quick rundown on how to get them off? Thanks guys

http://page13.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/r8685973 probably paid for the car through GT-R spares not that i would be leaning glass directly on my car like that!
  16. mikey, nice car btw if only space wasn't an issue with my RB, it is going to be nice and tight! what size radiator are you getting (i have to startthinking about these things too soon!), running thermo fans? if so are you still going to use some sort of plastic shroud? oh and what offset are your wheels? sorry about the million Q's

Hi Guys, just incase someone hasn't seen this yet, a new RHR coupe panel, in VIC though http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=32063&item=4541625147&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW Kent
  18. Hi Ken, i am afraid the 240z mounts are way different to the 240k mounts, nice pics though Mikey, what size intercooler is that? is it for the 240k?
  19. khughes replied to khughes's post in a topic in 240K Skyline
Hi Mikey, they are looking at them now, they usually deal with bending sheet metal etc.. so they were talking about bending up a plate to match the contour of the floor (bolting to the mounts, which then had the tabs welded on to attach to the recaro rails. the metal is going to be atleast 3mm thick, it would cost an absolute bomb to ship to the US i am afraid.. Probably better to find a metal fabricator in the US to custom make them? I will take some pics when i get them back (they are doing a 1mm version first to get the right angles etc..)
  20. khughes replied to khughes's post in a topic in 240K Skyline
wow, didn't realise they made rechargeable angle grinders wonder if they can be hired sure beats hiring a generator and dragging it around the junkyard, the other option was to fill a wheelbarrow with car batteries, an invertor and an angle grinder

haha, yeah i know.. this is our second yellow one! (well.. originally yellow!) had a lot of sparks and crappy connections (the + wire and terminal was getting mighty hot) to the battery originally, so i cut the ends off and put on generic battery terminals.. seems a lot better know. I am still stoked i have an actual running 240k now
  22. khughes replied to khughes's post in a topic in 240K Skyline
ah cool i will have to take a trek out to the wreckers this weekend i think.. anyone got any creative ways on how i can cut a small section out of the floor of a car in a wreckers (don't have a generator unforutnately), i want to get a corner out of the drivers footwell (mine has rusted through pretty badly due to the underlay holding water
  23. Hi Mikey, just a quick question, are you mounting your IC in front of your radiator? if so are you also upgrading your radiator? i am just a little worried about airflow through to the radiator Kent
  24. haha, thanks guys.. All fixed now.. she is running although the idle is a little rough, which i guess is understandable after the years of not being used (and using 4 year old petrol!).. but atleast she is running!
