anyone ever cleaned out their fuel tank?
I was wondering why the car was driving so poorly.. Originally when i bought the car, i drained the tank, it contained a thickish red/brown liquid which vaguelly past for oilly fuel.. So i drained thiscrap from the tank and filled it up with some nice clean ULP (with valvemaster additive)... the car had been running okay, but when it got onroad, the car has really been running quite badly.. noticed on the weekend that the fuel filter was once again filling with red/brown gunk so i pulled the fuel tank out and drained it.. (a waste of $50 of fuel ) It looks like the fuel has once again been coverted to mud! Anyone got any ideas with what or how i can flush the fuel tank effectively? the tank does not seem to leak, but this rusty / oilly crud must be coming from somewhere (unless the inside is just coated in it?)

Our rally car update
i thought that too, but luckily i found this just going to make up a reversed stencil with 神奈川県警察 on it (Kanagawa prefectural police), and try and draw up the logo thingy on the bonnet.

C110 Indicator lense
holy **** !, you are a fool for selling all those parts with the car hope you guys work it out (and since we are a pretty tight nit group, we certainly don't need any forum politics around here). That certainly sounds like a damn good deal though i got to say!, Common sense sort of has to provail if you buy an unregistered car without a RWC, they are not brand new cars... there is ALWAYS something that can and will go wrong with them! (trust me, it took me 3hrs to drive 30km's today in my 240k ), you certainly can't compare them to the cars of today (brakes, reliability etc...), but that is one of the reasons we love em!

My introduction
oh man!!! (what else can i say!) looks like there is going to be plenty of room in the engine bay! (i just hope i have enough too (RB30DET in a C110)) would be very interested in how you go with wiring on the car and things like radiator, intercooler, fuel pumps etc.. i look at my bad sometimes and just wonder where on earth they are going to fit!

Finally! on the road!
fantastic, thanks for that, i am away this weekend but i can come up and pick it up maybe one night next week when your home thanks jim

Finally! on the road!
Thanks Jim, so i need to get my hands on a 4psi pump after all (i assume they would be around the same as i would have to pay for a regulator to get my current pump to work..), guess it is time to drop into my local and price one up (or a replacement mechanical pump as a spare) How is your pump configured with the mechanical inline? will the electric pump continue to feed the engine if there is a mechanical pump failure, or is it being used as a lifter pump into a surge tank sort of deal? Leon, hehe, so far it looks like we are sponsoring the whole thing too (i assume that is what happens if you can't make the target, we have to pay the remainder).. skiing is this weekends plan for me too!

Finally! on the road!
Thanks guys, after a bit of investigation, it seems that one of the hose clamps between the fuel filter and metal line was a bit stretched and not clamping enough.. once i replaced this clamp, there are no noticable bubbles in the filter now.. although i havn't taken the car for a long drive yet. The VL pump that i would use i think runs at 37psi (100L/Hr).. I assume that this increased flow, would fill the fuel filter, fill the carb, which should then (once full), divert the remaining fuel back to the tank, letting the engine suck from the carb. so really it would only be the delivery and return path that would be under more pressure? is this a correct assumption?

Finally! on the road!
bugger.. thanks! i would have found out the hard way otherwise! we pulled the fuel pump apart today and cleaned out a little gunk.. seems to be behaving itself for the moment. Fingers crossed this will last!

Finally! on the road!
i was thinking about that too, i have a VL fuel pump i was thinking of hooking up, but i am just not 100% sure if it is that simple? can i just hook it up inline, and provide power? not sure if the pump will flow too much, and perhaps overflow the system (esp. if the return can't flow enough back perhaps?) it also seems that air bubbles are being sucked up not sure how though as the fuel tank is full (and surely it would be easier for it to suck up fuel than air through possible split hoses?), and i have replaced the 2 hoses at the rear, i guess i may need to replace the front ones too.

Finally! on the road!
Well guys, yesterday i finally got the charity rally beast on the road, all bluslip'd and insured Finally got to give the thing a blast around the streets, the brakes are still a bit dodgy (the front disks are still rusty, i havn't got them machined yet), the car is pinging it's nuts off and the fuel pump seems to be struggling to keep up.. but apart from that it is awesome My friend spent some time playing around with the tune last night, and it is apperantly so much better (havn't drivin it since), though the fuel pump is really having a hard time keeping up now.. for some reason, the pump doesn't seem to be pumping enough to keep enough fuel in the fuel filter, and the engine dies.. off to search the forums! Interestingly, i got full comp. insurance with the NRMA for it (it was going to be around $60 more than 3rd party!), believe it or not, they wouldn't insure the car for $2000, they said with the current k's (65,000) they couldn't insure it for less than $2900 (it took me a while to realise what they were actually saying!), makes me feel good about paying $500 for it (mind you after repairs etc. it isn't far off $2k!) paint still looks crap, but hopefully that will be fixedx up in 3 weeks time!

roof vent
yeah, the thought of only blowing $500 worth of car certainly helps, i certainly wouldn't feel the same way if i was cutting holes into the other shell (i still feel a little queezy at having cut up the rear guards, still got to get those welded properly).. Z-Kid, the event we are going into isn't a competition event (well, not officially ) it is a charity raising bash, but you are very spot on about the dust.. not sure what the lead time between cars will be, but i know it is going to be hella hot in the car!!

roof vent
installed the roof vent today (in between rain showers, why does it always rain when you don't want it to?) i got to say it is liberating to cut holes in the roof

roof vent
Leon, I stumbled across a specials page on Revolution Racegear late last night, they were advirtising a 'Rally roof vent" for $69, so i dropped in this morning to pick one up.. http://www.revolutionracegear.com.au/Specials/E_Flyerwk2.pdf It is a fairly simple design, cast metal surround, which you screw into the roof, and the actual "lid" can be pushed open, pulled closed and is on a fairly heavy snap spring. there is a finger ring on the inside of the lid to pull it shut.. Seems of very good quality, so i bought one... the sale ends today (they are ususally around $80 or so), i probably can't get out there in time this afternoon, but maybe if you give them a ring, they could hold one for you at the discount price and i could go pick it up for you tomorrow morning and send it through the post? i would of rang you but i don't have your mobile number

wide wheels again :D
no, that is a great help, if 9" fits for you, then 8.5" is good enough for me!, what are your offsets? I wasn't aware of the 1.3x rule either! but does the difference in wheel offsets mean that it blows out the track change maximum of 26mm? Would love for some more info on 440k's camber mods too ;D

wide wheels again :D
Just wondering.. i was planning on trying to get a set of RS Watanabe's in F16x8(0), R16x8.5(-6) as according to watanabe, this is the max for the KPGC110 now, i figured that since i had the guards, that those would be fine, but now i realise that the KPGC110 had a different rear offset to the KPGC110, so will that through out my idea? the wheels have to be legal as it has to go through engineering according to the site, the GC110 has F/R 14x6.5(+14.5) and the KPGC110 has F14x8(-6) R14x8.5(-13) out of the factory (well i assume that is what it is according to the table) http://www.rs-watanabe.co.jp/index2.htm Kent

Great Escape 2005
Thanks guys, awesome idea's! i will have to have a good sit down and go through everything and see what i can dig out (and it certainly sounds like instead of spraying paint on the car we should be spraying or pouring locktite!) Thanks Jim, are you working tomorrow night? if not i might drop around and have a gander, would be very interesting to see a complete comp car
