  1. So after about 6 hours of my time to properly install new door weatherstrip sourced from Black Dragon, I just wasn't happy. Doors too tight, fit not perfect, etc. Doors always shut perfectly, no sag ever. Let them break in for the last two months while winter is upon us, no help. Said to hell with it, spent the $160 and ordered a pair from Vintage Rubber. They come with new welting material attached, and took less than one hour to remove the 'old' and install these. Perfect fit. I mean perfect. No glue whatsoever. Doors are mildly snug, will adjust jams accordingly. Just wanted to share as I have purchased my fair share of junk repro parts during this resto, and these pieces were just great, albeit pricey. On to finishing the suspension........
  2. Thank you for the info Arne, I will check that plate, and the wires.
  3. You all have been very helpful over the years, and as my resto nears an end, I have a few questions. I want to put a 'stock' appearing set of spark plug wires on the car - the Bosch sets have 2 of the 6 wires with short, orange heads, while the others are the large black type, as all 6 of mine are currently. Any input as the where I can get a quality black set? Second, is there a way to match the engine to the chassis? I bought it from the original owner and have all docs, but still curious about the dates of the motor, etc. To see if all is well. The pics in my album are pretty lame, as it is frozen here in Pittsburgh, but please take a look and let me know what you think. Again, thanks to all for your help in the past , and future, I hope! I plan to have her ready for the Pittsburgh Vintage Gran Prix concours this summer. It's been a fun project, and I have new found, great respect for these vehicles.
  4. Thanks for the replies, gentleman. Very helpful! I will post pics soon of my 'baby', see what you guys think...here's the shot before the NOS bumper went on....
  5. Thanks Doug, very helpful. One of my other quests are the stickers that go on the original orange air cleaner - the main sticker is average at best on mine, and it looks there were two more, smaller stickers that have since worn. If anyone has any sources, it is appreciated. Thanks guys-a simple repaint has turned into a full resto!
  6. Thx for taking it easy on me guys. So any help with the tire size question????
  7. regarding the post above regarding old posts, so sorry, didn't realize how old this thread was.....with apologies....
  8. The caps look great. I see that you mention new tires, I am researching the proper tire size for the original 1971 14 x 4.5 inch rims, as I am finally finishing an exhausting restoration, and the "d's" are going onto the original restored rims. Any input as to sizes and/or looks (many of these new tires have crazy sidewalls...), etc. is appreciated. Thanks.
  9. I have a bone-stock 71 that is nearing completion from a light cosmetic resto, and want to upgrade most of the suspension bushings, as they have cracked, etc over time. Is there a manufacturer that makes a complete kit for the entire car? What is are the advantages/disadvantages of poly bushings? I'm sure this question has been addressed in the past, but i could not find it, thakns in advance- Jody

Thanks for the info. So, i guess the only original speaker (mine is the AM-only radio) is in the dash, and the rears must be add-ons..... Thanks again-

I recently purchased a 1971 z, totally original, and am having some very minor paint work completed (the dime-sized rust spots behind each front wheel in teh fender were the only bad areas! - trying to keep original paint on rest of car, as it is almost 100%). Remainder of paint, under spare tire, floors, etc are all mint. Anyway, the car has the original am radio w/power antenna (and working clock, w/o cracks in dash!), but the original owner put an fm converter behind the pass seat in '72. I am removing this, and making sure the orignal radio works...how many speakers were in an original z, and where were they located? There are two speakers in the rear panels above the spare tire, and honestly, i can't tell if they should be there or not. If they are not original, any idea on where (beisdes EBay) I can get these two panels? Great site, great forums. OHHH, two more last q's - the chrome on my rear bumper, center section, is not that great...these seem to be impossible to find...any ideas? and do the Eurpoean front bumpers (w/o guards) bolt directly in place? I would sacrifice a little originality for this cleaner look, as mine has the extra bar in the middle, which I do not care for... Sorry for the q's, thanks in advance-Jody

Thanks, didn't want to sound like an idiot, but it looked rather strange to me. I keep hearing horror stories about Poly bushings...I'd like to do a whole-suspension changeover of all the bushings, any suggestions? It is 100% original, won't be seeing any autocrosses, but I would like tighter handling.... Thanks Again-

In disassembling my recently acquired 71 240, I noticed that the rear 'control arms' (the triangular pieces on each side, bottom, facing road that the strut, etc. sits on) are not installed the same on each side. On the passenger side, the flange surrounding the piece faces down, while on the driver side it faces up. I am wondering if the previous owner may have had this apart, and re-installed incorrectly. I have been unable to find any photos illustrating this point. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance- Jody

My ashtray is up front, with the fusues, so I assume it is the earlier version. Thanks for the help.

As I am fairly new to the Z circle, I am not sure which console it has....Can you give me some tips? I am trying to learn as much as I can. I bought the car from the original owner, 80k orig miles, 100% stock (except the caps, he put Am. Racing rims on in '72). Orig paint, etc, very clean, no body work, so I'm trying to track as much info as I can. Thanks for all the responses.
